      Hello,
      I'm afraid I am not familiar with that course. My videos are all linked to UK specifications, but primarily AQA. Hopefully it still fits well with other specs though as it is still Biology.

      @@MissEstruchBiologyno worries , It fits but iam asking about the most well known curriculum biology IGCSE by Mary Jones and Geoff Jones for syllabus 0610 and 5090.
      I have the coursebook as pdf if you don't mind to check it.

      For now I am just sticking to AQA. My plan is complete all AQA content and then phase 2 is to address some skills and exam technique videos.
      Realistically, it would be at least a year before I would be looking at other exam boards, sorry :( IGCSE does sound like a good second one to start on though!

    What's meant by uniform distribution?

    • @MissEstruchBiology
      @MissEstruchBiology  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it means the plants are evenly spread around the area, rather than clustered in one place.

    Hello miss estruch,
    What is the fornula regarding the quadrat experiment, it started of with something like "mean no individuals per quadrat x .." something. i forgot it. I saw it be mentioned in a mark scheme aswell.
    Thank you.

    • @oliversmith6672
      @oliversmith6672 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, I think what you are talking about is predicting population size? If so it would be the mean per quadrat multiplied by however many quadrats could fit (or the area) in the location. for example, if there were 10 ants in one 1m squared quadrat, and the garden could fit 10 quadrats then there would be 100 ants.
      hope this helps

    @ratofalady8125 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why is the quadrat 0.5 x 0.5 when measuring density but you said typical a quadrat is 50 x 50

    What is the difference between line and belt transect?

    • @MissEstruchBiology
      @MissEstruchBiology  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Line transects are when you sample along a straight line. A belt transect is when you sample along that line using a quadrat, so it is a type of line transect. Hope that helps

      @@MissEstruchBiology So in an exam question if it says, 'describe how you would investigate the distribution of marram grass from one side of the dune to the other' am I correct to say '1. create a belt transect from one side of the sand dune to another 2. place quadrats at regular intervals along the line 3. calculate percentage cover.

    • @MissEstruchBiology
      @MissEstruchBiology  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you should also say you would take at least 10+ repeats at different positions along the dune

    hi miss just wanted to ask is there a distingisuing factor that determines if we use quadract of a line transet ?

    • @oliversmith6672
      @oliversmith6672 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Belt transects are used if you are measuring changes in an area. For example, if you were measuring change in vegetation near the ocean, u would move inland along a belt transect.

    what is the difference between local frequency and percentage cover, because you have to calculate the percentage of squares covered in both

    • @MissEstruchBiology
      @MissEstruchBiology  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      local frequency is just a yes or no if any of the organism is in a small square. If the answer is yes that equals 1% per square.
      For peercentage cover, you only count it as 1% if at least half the small square is covered in the organism.
