@@regulusking4299especially when songs that are actually a bit out of place in smash due to being a bit slow and somber, like lost in thoughts all alone, which got TWO remixes because of that, is STILL in the game (both in English and Japanese). I listened to this video for the first time... the absolute whiplash i got from hearing the original after listening to the smash remix is insane lmfao
@@beastmodeslupdog1380 Except the thing is most of those remixes are actually substantial changes to the original that make it feel like a different version, rather than a similar but inferior version. Because most songs they remix could ACTUALLY use a remix because they are either old and a modern version would be fun (e.g. gangplank galleon) or are too slow for smash so a more upbeat remix is warranted (e.g. beneath the mask.) and those two factors give them something to change for the remix to make it justified (Gangplank galleon they added in many new parts and gave the instrumentation a modern sound, beneath the mask they made it in the style of upbeat persona songs like last surprise) but that isn’t the case with counterattack. It fits perfectly fine in smash, and the devs seemingly agreed at one point because engage the enemy (its XC1 equivalent) is in the game as its original. It’s an intense rock song, maybe a bit slower tempo but that doesn’t automatically discount it from a fighting game. Especially when we have stuff ranging from the roost to ring a ding in the game lmao (which I’m all for btw I love the variety.) a remix was not needed for counterattack, and by trying to do one at basically the same tempo and style of the original (which the original was basically already perfect at those metrics) there was nowhere to go but down. At the very least if they wanted to try to make a smash remix of it they could’ve done something similar to beneath the mask and made it reminiscent of the upbeat xenoblade battle themes instead of its slower more dramatic cutscene music, but they didn’t, they just made it sound like the cutscene music but bad… well not really bad, it still sounds alright, it’s still counterattack at the end of the day, just a version of counterattack that’s leagues worse than the original while adding nothing worthwhile if it’s own.
@@beastmodeslupdog1380idk if it’s just me but I find most of the time the smash remix just doesn’t add anything even in the context of a fighting game. Sometimes the original is even more hype and fits way more. Oh well

As someone who got into xenoblade thanks to smash, I fkin HATE the counterattack remix. I like the idea of making the guitar playing the main theme, but where did all the background go? In the original there are multiple violins, a piano, an electric guitar and many more, in the remix there's barely drums, it's so stupid honestly. But even then, it was partially thanks to that remix that I discovered my favourite series of all time so I can't really complain
Tbh it’s honestly just all due to Kenji Hiramatsu’s and the sound team at monolith’s mastering techniques. They’re good at getting REALLY crisp and punchy sounds to come through the mix that add a lot of energy
In Ultimate, the violin is definitely an electric one while in XC2 it's a regular one. Ultimate sounds like the strings are getting scratched up, XC2 it sounds silky smooth.
Do you mean that the definitive edition version is worse than the original? Or are you saying the smash version is worse (the smash version is from the original on the Wii) I’m just confused
I remember I was pleasantly surprised when I learned Counterattack was in the game. Didn‘t expect that since it‘s a cutscene exclusive song in the main game. Was a bit disappointed afterwards, because in my opinion, it doesn‘t sound as good as the original, which is one of my favorite tracks from XC2. But still happy Counterattack got in nonetheless.

yea all those ost where modifies in smash. all titles have note differences. valedictory elegy from baten kaitos and dragon quests themes have note differences from originals
I noticed the difference right away when hearing the smash version and I strongly prefer the original and wish they put it in the game. The original has more orchestra. Like a symphony of rising to a climax. The smash version's electric guitar overshadows the strings in my opinion and turns it into a more generic rock song. It's fine, but the original just can't be beat.
For every Snake Man or Destroyed Skyworld, remixes arguably better than their original, we get Counterattack or Reshiram/Zekrom: remixes that are cool, but not quite as good as their original.
I do prefer Xenoblade 2 but smash just made it simpler. This is not as big of a problem like 'You will know our names' or vs Zekrom/Reshiram is. Smash's 'You will know our names' hurt me mentally especially when smash claims that it is not a remix.
Yeah no, the smash is bad, and here is why: they restrainted the instrumental volume to reduce the contrast, meaning less highs and lows, and they removed the drums and guitars.
@@redgerran The original song works in an RPG, but in a fighting game the use of multiple instruments can be distracting at times. So Sakurai wanted to simplify the song, so that the player can maintain focus when fighting.
In the Smash Ultimate version, the guitar just copies the violin section, whereas in the original version, it provides a rhythmic chord progression. Not to mention in the original, the drums are much more apparent, the bass has more freedom, and the overall audio quality is more crisp and less compressed.
Any form of Counterattack is a good form of Counterattack, it’s just that the original is the best cause of how much more layered it is
