Certain times in Kansas the dirt roads are closed to most traffic tell school busses to use the mud routes. The roads have no bottom and really bad if you get stuck. Enjoyed your video and I'm a new subscriber. Thanks.
Awesome - thank you so much! And thanks for sharing that info. We love dirt roads and a little mud is ok, but mud roads are a different story. From what we could tell, it did look like they could get pretty bad sometimes.
Kanopolis and Council Grove are really nice lakes to spend some time camping at also. They both have decent facilities and the topography is pretty interesting as well due to their locations in the area’s geological formations. If y’all make it back this way in your travels you should check them out 😊
Your intro bout made me cry. Love your story and hope that you are able to retire soon and enjoy this full time :) I live in KS and just looking for some more sites to get to, but I have a hard time justifying paying to go fish overnight. Thanks for the video and I hope that one day I can find someone to spend my life exploring together like you two have. Is that castle rock?? I just stayed at the Cedar Bluff lake so I could finally go and see that big ol rock. Hiked for a couple hours just enjoying the badlands there. gorgeous place!
Thanks so much for watching and commenting! We will be the first to admit that relationships take work, lol! Having that common interest though helps a lot. We really do enjoy exploring together! Yes, that is Castle Rock - so cool! We never expected to see something like that Kansas. Kansas wasn't at all what we expected - in a good way!
We are on a 2 year countdown, lol! I may work part-time after that, but it would be virtual so we should still be able to start traveling more. We look forward to meeting you and your wife (and dog)!
If you are closer to the east, Miami state fishing lake has 14 days free camping thru 28 days. there are 14~ campsites available. 399th and 69 highway has some campsites east from 69 highway. there is one site after the bridge, but if the go over the bridge, you went to far. There is a dance music festival that is hosted near there every year, dancefestopia, so if you plan on going there, make sure it is not when that is booked, otherwise, probably no camping. there are only 3-4 sites total. hidden gem and not listed on maps
As you were describing it, I was thinking it sounded like it was close. Thanks for sharing that! Since we bought our camper in KC almost 2 years ago now, we have been back to that area a few times and are always looking for new places to camp. Thanks for the heads up about the event too, lol!
The "No Alcohol" rule gives law enforcement a tool to keep large parties from happening at these lakes. I'm guessing no one would bother a single camp couple that were having a few as long as they didn't flaunt it...

You always do your home work and then pass it along, you are a one of a kind
I try - The older we get, the more we realize how much we don't know, lol! Thank you!

@@FredSheridan-e7f thanks for sharing that - we definitely will! We were so surprised by the variety of topography in Kansas.
Great tour! Thanks for such great info!!
Thank you! We really enjoyed staying at all 3!

Mcpherson state lake is an awsome place to free camping
That one is right in the middle of the state I think? We were so impressed with Kansas lakes!
Camping is allowed anywhere within the city of Topeka
@@phaedruscj3330 really!? How does that work? Like just parking on the street or in parks? We'll have to look that up.
@@HEKNBAK Sorry I was being sarcastic. My apologies. Topeka government allows transients to camp anywhere. e.g. Literally next to bike trails
@@phaedruscj3330 lol, no worries! We thought that might be the case but wasn't sure. Sounded a little fishy!

Should have kept watching. Rutlander area very close to this. I need to go and check out the Lousiburg Middle Creek State lake soon!

That makes sense. I could see these being attractive party spots but that would definitely take away from the peaceful camping experience we had.
