    Phil is such a good sport. Like the true gentleman that he is, he went down the river to pick up the object that you spotted. Just like my husband he is always obliging to do most of whatever that i want. Great video and love you two always. God bless! Tammy🌻

    What a lovely day at the beach, watching you river larking has made us really miss the summer! It's too cold now for Oscar to be walking down rivers- as he always manages to get water in his wellies (to be fair to him, he is quite a bit shorter than the average river larker)
    We're eagerly awaiting spring to get back in the water, but for now we'll stick to watching your adventures! Kate x

    • @LetsgowithTheJohnsons
      @LetsgowithTheJohnsons  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks Kate :) Aww, not fun for Oscar to be getting wet wellies in these temperatures. We were hoping to go for a lark tomorrow but it's not looking good as we have had torrential rain, so the rivers will probably be too full to get it!

    • @MudlarkingWithKitCaboodlers
      @MudlarkingWithKitCaboodlers 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@LetsgowithTheJohnsons Oh no! Usually we get excited about heavy rain as it means fresh treasures may have been unearthed at our usual spots... but it's less helpful when river larking is concerned! Hopefully it just means that there'll be new and exciting things for you to find when the water has dropped down again- silver linings and all :)

      @LetsgowithTheJohnsons  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you liked it Catherine. Your DNA is interesting, as many Irish people fled poverty, including the great famine of 1845, and a lot of people from across England moved into Wales during the industrial revolution and with the sinking of super pits in the late 19th century... so lots of us are probably a similar mix including Norway, thanks to the well traveled Vikings 🙂 100% agree with the thrill of the hunt and the magical way bits and pieces can build a bridge to the past. @@LetsgowithTheJohnsons History & heritage are such precious resources and so particular to an area thus so worth promoting, because that's partly what makes a place special and sets it apart from a similar-looking place! I imagine it would be a different story, so far as the serenity goes, in July & Aug, but still lots of sand when the tide goes out & the river looked very healthy - so nice to see sand, pebbles, shells & the odd sea glass (which I DO love) rather than aluminium cans, plastic bottles, fishing line, rope, shopping carts... :( I still think your weather sounds foul, but hope it clears up for the Festivities! It wouldn't seem like a real mudlark without a ball lol Sometimes, old waste dumps get washed into the rivers when the banks erode. Other times, it is a case of things just getting thrown over the garden fence into the river as they had no waste removal service all those years ago. Terribly irresponsible, but makes for great mudlarking :)

      Hello Dawn from California! Thanks :) No, we don't need a permit as long as the river isn't on private land. It's a different story if we wanted to go to the Thames. There you definitely need a permit. One day. I'd like to mudlark on the Thames.

      We still have the detector but have become hooked on mudlarking, so rarely get out to detect. Maybe in the spring we will get back to it :)

    As a local fossil collector, Im afraid to say you're very, very unlikely to find fossils in Blackpill. The geology at Blackpill is simply not fossiliferous. If you want to look for fossils in Swansea/Gower I'll happily give you some locations or sites to investigate. 😊
