Mostly environment ideas because I don't like bothering much with modelling X( Also, if you are interested, can you try out Cascadeur and let us know your thoughts? :D
I would love to see cloth simulation on animated character, instead animating things like cloak by hand make it simulated to match existing animation in realistic way.
This is amazing! I've just started learning Maya and this looks like a really powerful tool; would definitely like to see more on this topic. Keep up the great work!
I’ve been using maya for roughly 2 and a half years and while i knew of mash i never knew you could accomplish so much like this I would more than love to learn much more about these features
I've been using Maya forever and have wanted to learn about MASH for a while but I really can't find a lot of instructional vids out there - I hope you keep exploring this because these videos are so helpful!
You can follow Ian Waters on TH-cam or his Vimeo channels. He is the developer of MASH and he released a ton of quick, super engaging tutorials. They are a few years old now and MASH has been subject to updates, but the basic premise in his tutorials still apply. Also he is really funny. But perhaps Sir Wade will continue to release fresh training for MASH, since Ian appears to have moved on.
Thanks! MASH is quite deep, it's super fast, and a lot of fun to play with. One more thing worth mentioning. MASH has easy to use built-in procedural animation effects as well: either using effectors to create turbulent-field looping motions, or through the 'engines' which create iterative transformation effects on geometry groups which can all be glued to work together (like a churning or crawling effect). Combine these with the Bullet physics for true collisions and gravity, and you've got, say, a crashing asteroid field, or sandblast effect, or a Plexus-like object, in literally minutes. In my opinion, MASH is *not* a complete substitute for C4D MoGraph tools, which are considerably deeper and better integrated. But MASH was acquired to try and appeal to users who wanted these quick dynamic motion graphics toolsets.
I found your video as the first result for MASH search ...i was trying to figure out what could MASH bring in for rigging .....and believe me ...your demo made things look so easy and also inspired me ideas in only less than 20 mins ....thank you so much
To the Blender users: No- the modifier stack can't do this stuff....especially not the array modifier alone. You'll run against a wall as soon as you want layered falloffs for your effects. Yes- Animation Nodes is powerfull and it can do a lot of things that are shown here. But it is not a reliable production tool for Motion Designers in the industry. It still has render bugs, it can't handle very large amounts of instances, especially high-poly ones and it has an insufficient connection to Blenders Physics and Particle Engine. (Not to speak of those systems as they are still horrible in Blender) BUT the biggest issue is the development: The creator of Animation Nodes Jacques Lucke is currently working on particle nodes. Early access features show that it is developed in a completely different direction. Blender in the future will become full node based and for this they will change the whole internal system over the next few years. Also mainly based on C instead of python. This means that Animation Nodes which are python based will not have a long term connection to new Blender features. It will still take lots of years till you get something even remotely comparable to Mash or Mograph in Blender. So please stop these half-assed "Blender can do everything as well" comments if you don't have some real insights.
This is one of the best overall breakdowns ive seen for MASH. With the tool being so large and powerful its sometimes hard to wrap your head around how to utilize all the attributes. Would love to see a full breakdown of all the Nodes this way !
WHATTT!!??? I switched fresh from Cinema 4D to Maya and i was curious if there is something similiar to the Mograph system in C4D...And BOOM there is!! You made my day Buddy!! THX a Lot. Subbed ;)
This is absolute fire! Thanks for the video! Blender might be the "cool thing" to do videos about on youtube, but I promise you there's Maya students out there like me that deeply appreciate this!
Awesome Tutorial, you've really shown how Mash is one of d most powerful tools in Maya. Please we would love more videos on the various operator/ effects....Thanks Boss👍
Another super duper awesome video wade! Really loved watching and learning about this crash course on mash. I really hope to see more content over this, i'd love to see a video of you going in depth of the different tools too!
I had an idea for a couple vfx shots but I had no idea on how to actually make them, until I watched this. I'm literally hyped right now to go play with MASH, thanks dude!
The best video about the secret superweapon I've never explored. If you could make a full-length course about this, it will be useful for a lot of people. Thanks Sir Wade!
Awesome, I was just showing someone MASH and there weren't any decent videos about that cover it. Keep up the good work! I'd love to see more stuff using MASH for interesting alternative visual effects.
It's something I wish they would add in Blender - MASH networks are so much more powerful than the array modifier, and they also include functionality like Blender's hair particle instancing sytem.
@@CurdledShark8 I mean technically you could do anything you want if u have the know how with Blender, you know it being scriptable with Python and all right?
3 minutes in and I'm hooked. First vid I've seen by you but you're such an engaging presenter! Love your explanation of the tools, and your energy. You've earned a subscriber, for sure.
oh wow, I need to animate a time lapse of a city being built for my thesis film and had no idea how I was going to do that until I saw this. this is so awesome!
This seems super powerful. I only dabble in 3D programs mostly to create a base to draw/paint on top of but this seems like it could be useful to even me.
yes! do one going over as much options in Mash as possible, if you could go over some simulations in maya like bifrost and ncloth that would be amazing! thank you for another great video!

Love your videos, always into useful stuff with real world applications. Would definitely love some more MASH videos, especially on how to integrate MASH into a character animation shot workflow
At the beginning of the video i was like: wow...you do some stuff with references of an object. After watching this video i was like: OMG, i really should try this tool out! Very cool!

Yes! Sir Wade you are awesome I like your tutorials are fun and useful, Even for rigging is Mash is useful so many cool things can be done without scripting I used to work witth Mograph in C4D and is about the same really easy to use and Powerful.
Great presentation of MASH. Very quick and easy to understand what it is. I think an audio or bullet video would be very useful. Thanks. Seen a lot on MASH but this is very quick, clear and concise. Again Thanks.
Wow I'm a Maya user and have never touched Mash. I was looking into getting into cinema 4d for its motion graphics capabilities but this may be my solution over having to learn a new program! Thanks for the info
Wade, your videos are so well done! Thanks so much for all the content! Would absolutely LOVE more videos on MASH, there are so few out there, but it's such an incredible tool
yes a full on overview of all the MASH tools would be awesome! I admit I also slept on it, I only tried using it once to scatter some carrots on a plate but I couldn't get it to work properly so I switched to houdini for that...
Animation Nodes are super powerfull in Blender. I dont know if they are doing all of it the same, but you should try them. (And may be the Everything Nodes project can handle some of it in the future)
You can probably do everything with AN, but it's also Houdini-level node wizardry. At least a lot of the toy examples he showed can be done with Blender modifiers, instancing, particles, shader nodes ... Some others will get hairy and may e.g. require fiddling with empties. What looks nice about MASH is to have all these quite different "mograph" things in one place.
HOLY CRAP! This is exactly what I needed for a new project! There is an element I did not know how to create effectively until now! Is there any MASH tutorials you can refer?
Yes please make more Motion graphics video! I don’t like cinema4d and I’m trying to do stuff in Maya but is not so easy to work in motion graphics with maya! Thank you this is really helpful!
Cinema 4d is the industry standard for motion graphics. I used Maya and 3DSMax for the longest time and switch to Cinema4D for motion graphics and never looked back. Mograph is more powerful than Mash.
So helpful mate. If you can it would be useful to see it used in set design. I am intrigued about how to procedurally work on set dressing using these methods. Obviously if you have time. Thanks and keep up the amazing work.
