  • In our new series Real Food, we're exploring the evolving way food is produced, sourced and distributed. A California startup called Apeel Sciences says its product can extend the life of fruits and vegetables by up to five times. Ben Tracy reports on why it's being touted as the biggest revolution since refrigeration.

No wonder I've been noticing multiple instances of buying a piece of produce that looks perfect on the outside, but when I cut it open, the inside has already begun to rot. This is not designed to benefit consumers. It's made to increase profits by giving the stores more time to sell their old stock. Keep in mind, the older the produce, the less vitamins it's going to have, as well. And one more thing to remember; 'derived' from nature is not 'from' nature. We have no clue in which ways our bodies or the environment will be affected in the long run.

Byw, brown bananas (spotty brown) are more nutritious than an unripe yellow one

... but also, spotty brown bananas and avocados build up tyramines which trigger migraines :-( Apeel is great because it delays the browning process using extracts from the skin of grapes and other fruits.

I think if you live in sub-Saharan Africa (or in Minnesota in the middle of winter); having fresh fruit spayed with grape skin extract, that doesn't require any special handling or refrigeration otherwise will be a welcome site on the breakfast table. No? Those with means will still be able to buy purely organic produce that spoils and wilts in two days if they're willing to pay the extra cost of timely transport and resulting food waste.

No, this is BS because my cherry tomatoes lasted 1 full year and never developed a mold. I even have a hard rock type cherry tomato that is a stone. I will someday make a necklace from it. I stopped eating anything that is too shiny. If it is crisp then watch out.

food tastes awful now....it isn't even worth living unless u r a multi billionaire and pay people to grow real food. Time for a Roman bath. Avocados no longer taste good, nothing tastes good. Technology ruined everything.
