    I used to make my own custom maps for free using atlas.nrcan.gc.ca/toporama/en/index.html and www.trackmaker.com/main/en/. Haven't used them for a couple years, so not sure if it can still be done. Reading a map or chart is like reading a good book.

      Have another look bud. I use Jeff's maps all the time. They have topo lines (25m, bold every 100m). He also marks the peaks of portages and the elevation of lakes which is even handy-er.

    Thanks Kev, I love working with a map and compass. Does anyone know why Google hasn't added a topo feature to their "maps" yet?
