Very cool video. I have been urban exploring for 40 years plus. Back then it was just called trespassing. I now go urban exploring with my daughter and grand children. It's a family thing. Nice to see some old school ethics, "Take nothing but pictures. Leave nothing but footprints". Good advice for any newbies in the crowd.
The place at 21:10 strongley reminds me of an abandoned factory we had in my old hometown in germany. It sure is not the same building but it is quite interesting how different but similar lost places are.
Yeah, we got caught by motion sensors, too. And magnetic alarms on the doors. But it was well worth it! =) The Finnish law is funny in that it doesn't specify penalties for illegally entering, as long as you don't break anything. With the exception of homes and some industrial facilities, ofcourse, where privacy or industial espionage laws may apply.
this explorer thing isnt something ive been activly doing but when i was "younger" i had a tendancy to find myself in houses/building that had been in different stages of disrepair and at the time abandoned, been in old industrial complexes and regular villas etc and its always interesting to see whats on the inside and with some areas be able to see what have once been. machines that has been outdated or even just daily things in a abadoned house like a rocking chair that been so long in the same place when the house was in use that it has left markings on the floor visible 10 years later. nowdays my exploring is non existent as im living with a kronic condition leading to pain in all of my body so cant do as much adventures anymore.
No, the Q&A wasn't taped... which was a bit of a double-edged sword, as not being taped made people feel better about asking certain types of questions.
I only got arrested for trespass and curfew ( as we were minors at the time). there were no charges, but i'm sure it's on my record somewhere. even that could be problematic for some people.
+Lemon Chief and definitely no makeshift lockpicks that could easily blend in with the rubbish or appear to be holding together a broken part of your shoe/bag or anything.......
This is a fun building to explore in Bangkok... www.samuitimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/ghost-tower-bangkok-200x300.jpg en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sathorn_Unique_Tower There are quite a few more just like it scattered around the city.
It's an off-the-grid way of couriering drugs, kiddie pr0n and other illegal things. There's just no way of policing it, and honest geocachers can find their sites 'hacked' by people who are looking for a way to deal drugs etc. so it's more a 'better safe than sorry' policy than anything.
just be wary about doing this on valuable buildings. i've been caught by motion detectors twice when i used to do a lot of buildering. the second time got me arrested.
It probably brings in a bunch of people who shouldn't be there. A new geocache could lead to 100 people showing up over the next few years, making a persistent nuisance to the guards enforcing the no trespassing rules.
+Kait Sith Have a headlamp = see whats' in front of you so you don't bump your head. There's no such thing as a pitch black room when you have a headlight.
this seems like a cool thing to do outside of the fact that i'm weak physically, i don't know anything about infrastructure, i would literally shit my pants, i hate pests and crawlers, oh wait... on second thought, maybe not such a good idea!
More often they use it for travel, with the bonus of being shelter at the same time, but strictly for shelter? trains are a bit risky since every railroad has its own private police department that really doesn't answer to anyone.
Hey up dude , interesting video :) What is this done for ? is it a talk at a Uni or something ? Also are the shots HDR ? looking good :) Add me on flickr , there is a link on my page here Thanks Rusty
Hacking is the proper name for recreational horse riding in England. Do a search for "hacking jacket" "The name is derived from the word hack or hackney, the saddle horse chosen for ordinary, informal pleasure riding as opposed to the horse used for jumping or hunting. " Silly Peasants :)
Lol that's not what caustic means. It's not full of diseases. It's poisonous to humans. These new DCs are so funny. With all these niche talks lately you can really tell the social awkwardness of everyone in the room. The speakers are definitely tuned to the spectrum. Amazing recall, attention to detail, critical thinking, and absolutely no social cuing and the timing is always slightly off. It's like they are consistently waiting snd trying to read feedback before continuing.

Is he still alive? It's been 11 year since this talk???
Me and friends used to do this as kids. It seems roofs are the easiest way to get in. Always some unlocked hatches to go through... ;)
These French Hobbies are still relevant to this day.

Was the Q&A session filmed, as well? I'd love to see it, but I can't seem to find it.
People die when they are killed.
fun fact: some people are even killed when they die.
@Morphesque didn't find it either, maybe if someone finds it respond?
"Basic N95 masks that you can buy in packs of 100"
Covid-19: Well yes... but actually ... no
Great video and some really good points, thanks for that.

The word hacking came from trains before computers but otherwise it's to do something that it's not supposed to do

maybe it's a dumb question, but what, in particular, is it that authorities don't like about geo-caching?
It probably brings in a bunch of people who shouldn't be there. A new geocache could lead to 100 people showing up over the next few years, making a persistent nuisance to the guards enforcing the no trespassing rules.
1:15 don't do it man! That's how EVERY horror movie starts
“I don’t like water” *sips water*
How do you lose your flashlight? Use a headlamp, pretty hard to drop that :)
+phaelin Don't lose your head. :-p
+phaelin bump your head in a pitch black room = no light
+Kait Sith Have a headlamp = see whats' in front of you so you don't bump your head. There's no such thing as a pitch black room when you have a headlight.
At 44:50, why does he consider a homeless person as a lower member of society?
I audibly gasped when I saw the asbestos sign
incident phase real asf i was arrested and featured on news 😭 like….. watching this years later, i’ll be wayyy smarter this time
thought he said "persnickety community, as all French hobbies are"
***** He knows...
I heard French too the first time. I just accepted it as fact.
ok, i see. haven't thought about that. thx for the answer :-)

Funnily enough, I'm wearing an Infiltration tee as I'm watching this haha!
umm a hobo is a homeless person who uses a train for shelter

@@jermainerace4156 just because you travel doesn't make it any less of a home. Do you think you can't live in an RV or Camper?
I think he said fringe.
"just like hacking is a French hobby" *ponder* D'oh
"You can buy N95 masks in packs of 100"
Covid would like to disagree with you...

2004? Wha?
thanks to Mr.Obama, there'll be a lot more desolate and abandoned dwellings appearing everyday.
