To be honest, I don't completely agree with what I have said about blue eyes in the past, so it's nice to have a video with the opposing viewpoint getting attention. Honestly I have a rule of thumb, I use blue eyed cats sparingly and for the purple eyes thing I would say it is a a purplish tint. Also when people complain about how there is no breed diversity and say their Oc is a Turkish Angora when the oc was not a former kittypet making it near impossible for it to exactly be a purebred/halfbred Turkish Angora when no where in their family tree was a former kittypet. That is jut more of a pet peeve though.

Demanding hyper realistic warrior designs in a series about intelligent cats with magical powers is super dumb. Also, applying pure-bred genetic standards to feral cats that have lived in the wild for many generations is perhaps the stupidest argument I’ve seen in this fandom.
I agree, but there are several cats who may have breed-standard appeareances, especially kittypets or cats who were originally kittypets like Firestar (who's wiki description literally says he's an Abyssinian), Sasha and in Pinestar's Choice there is also a cat who is noted to be a pedigree Burmese (forgot his name lol). But I find the fact that people stick breed standards to cats like Leopardstar (assumed to be a Bengal/ Ocicat) really annoying, don't get me wrong. It just defeats the purpose of them being FERAL cats, most of whom have lived for many generations without human interferance. I mean, blue fur is just a lighter version of black ( -cough BLUESTAR cough- ), so automatically assuming that all the blue cats in Warriors are Russian Blue is just irrelevant in my opinion.
Yeah, you shouldn't put a breed onto a wild cat unless they are of kittypet descend. Still, the same genetics apply regardless of breed.

Only albinos (colorpoints are partially albino) and cats with white can have blue eyes unless they have one of the very rare and possibly lethal/problematic mutations. Some of the photos in the video were clearly photoshopped, others were colorpoint or had white on them.

You forgot the other, most problematic cat when talking about genetics, Redtail because most people complain how a calico/ tortoise-shell male can have kits, when they are unable to reproduce in the real world. And Redtail had Sandstorm. In reality, why does a fictional character need to be a realistic animal because we have fiction books about dragons and other magical creatures, like unicorns and pegasus. I haven't heard of people complain about how unrealistic Harry Potter's world is or any other fictional world is, but why do people think that the Warrior Cats' world need to be realistic based on cat's designs, even though it has cats with magical powers and cats that can gain 8 additional lives by talking with dead cats.

Well people probably have a harder time disconnecting warriors from real life then they do with books about dragons and unicorns, since cats are real animals and people seem to have a hard time seeing past that part to remember the magic of the warriors world for whatever reason.
most don't count the retroactive parentage of sandstorm as valid, forget genetics it screws up her character since she didn't sit vigil or strongly react to redtail's death which is very at odds with her prior established character

We only understand what the cats are saying, because we are hearing it from points of views that understand it. So, as the characters in the book series don’t understand what the humans are saying, and vice versa, it is not unrealistic. Not in any way more so than the world we live in.
I wasn’t referring to the series being completely realistic. I was referring to the fact that we are in the cat’s points of view, so the talking was realistic (for the most part)

idk if this has been commented yet but theres a cat pelt color "lilac" in real life, so a warm gray rather than a cool gray that could be described as "pinkish". because while normal gray cats are a diluted from of black, lilac cats are a diluted form of the chocolate gene, which makes them appear that sort of soft brownish gray. and non white cats with blue eyes are a result of them carrying the white spotting gene but they always have white, even if its only a few hairs.

Hey, I had an oc back when I was younger that changed eyes younger. She started as a kit so her eyes were blue (thats cats natural eye color when they’re kittens! But form into green/yellow or stay blue.) So I have her eye color change, cause she is old enough to form to 3-4 moons. And my friend fricken yelled at me for ‘inconsistency’. *L O G I C*

I just think it’s bullshit how artists these days can’t draw whatever the hell they want and however they want without getting sooooo much hate. Art is a free world. There are no goddamn rules. If you don’t like someone’s art, stay QUIET. It doesn’t matter. Nothing has to be realistic. Sorry for the rant but I agree so much with your video.
Art is, on a regular basis, a way to express ones opinions and emotions in a way that can’t harm the creator nor the viewers. However, due to the destructive criticism that can be generated towards the art created, sometimes the creator or the viewers can get mentally hurt. It is a growing problem. As more and more people want to draw, more and more destructive criticism may be generated, until extensive damage has been done to the community.
I say “destructive” criticism, because it’s not helping anyone. Constructive criticisms is criticism that is supposed to be used to help the creator grow in ability of the project. However, destructive criticism is criticism that is purely intended to offend or hurt the creator of the subject.
Nightclaw yes I’ve been seeing too much of this, and I’m noticing that a lot of people actually follow accounts that make this criticism saying it’s “constructive” when it’s harmful. It really sucks.

As someone who spent hours making a genetically accurate tree, you could probably tell I'm a big fan of genetics and have made all my designs of the canon characters as such, but does it bother me if your OC is jet black and brown with purple eyes? No, it doesn't. Seriously, people shouldn't be judging other's OCs for if they're genetics are right or not. It doesn't even matter! Sure, if you're like me and enjoy making these genetically accurate cat designs: Go ahead! Nobody is stopping you, but don't stop other people from drawing a purple-grey cat with light pink eyes. It's none of your business.

Stem ginger IKR! Like yeah Bluestar could be called a Russian Blue, because she is probably most of that breed from ancestry or just looks like it. But she can also inherit blue eyes from an ancestor of a different (for the most part) breed!
This annoys me too. Especially with cats born in clans, if you've lived in the wild with no people keeping your breed in line there's almost no way you kept up a purebred lineage.

Technically pinkish-grey cats are cats with lilac coats, and heather can come in all different colors, and Heathertail's eyes are blue. However, you're completely right, people should feel free to design their ocs however they wish!

Even though I love to do genetics, I understand warriors has never and probably will never care about genetics. Also totally agree cats with blue eyes don’t have to be completely white, or even have white on them. People need to do more research before the hate on OCs with blue eyes.

Black cats can have any cat eye color except blue, violet and pink. Amber and yellow are just dominant to green which makes them more common all around

Smolder Berri Actually they "talk" because they're cats. If you notice throughout the series that the humans don't understand them? Meaning the cats are meowing and hissing but they're "talking" for the sake of the readers. The "magic" part I believe because ALL animals are intuitive like that.
If someone thinks genetics are fun, why not allow them to make genetically accurate redesgins or make genetically accurate OCs?
If someone knows even the basic things about cat genetics, seeing black and brown cats may break their immersion. While things like nine lives and superpowers serve the story or are a part of worldbuilding, they aren’t as distracting, but having incorrect cat genetics doesn’t serve anything.
It’s also why having cats be awake at day and not see at night is ridiculous. Cats can see in the ‘dark’ (there still has to be at least a small bit of light but with the moon, stars and towns there always will be).

I think when referring to having to have white it refers to undercoat? but honestly why do some of these people demand so much from people who are just trying to enjoy a series and make interesting, unique designs for characters they love? the same goes for traditional naming. while it obviously isnt as bad, I dont think your warriors oc should strictly abide by these unspoken rules (but with anything, if youre not forcing these beliefs onto other people nor are you hurting anyone you're fine!). just have fun and do what you want to do when it comes to character design.

Blue eyes are caused by a lack of pigment, which causes a white coat too. So, when there's white spotting around the face a cat can have blue eyes. It is also caused by albinism, that's why colourpoints have blue eyes. There is one more cause: Ojos Azules. This mutation causes blue eyes in non white cats, but is very rare.

Hey! Just want to say as someone super into cat genetics (but not at all trying to hurt anyone's oc with improper genetics, like, do what you want idc) that blue eyes do have ties to whiteness. Let me explain! There are 4 reasons a cat can have blue eyes:
1. Dominant white. Dominant white cats always have either blue or orange eyes, they are fully white and this is very likely what Leia is.
2. White spotting. When white spotting occurs around the eyes, the eyes may be blue. Keep in mind I said around the eyes. Even if only the snout is white, the eyes can still be blue.
3. Albinism. Albinism causes a lack of pigment which causes blue eyes. Colourpoint is a form of albinism, which is why all pointed cats have blue eyes. (also why ragdolls have blue eyes! white spotting can be combined with colourpoint!)
4. Ojos Azules. This is a mutation in the eyes which causes them to be blue regardless of the coat color. It is not exactly known how, but it is very uncommon.
Why is this? Because blue eyes are caused by a lack of pigment, and so is a white coat! So where blue eyes are there is always some white coat, except for Ojos Azules though this is rare.
Leia is pretty easy to explain. Either she is dominant white or fully white spotted, but I will guess dominant white because this is more common. Your friend's cat, however, is interesting. Does he/she have white markings on the face? If not, he/she may have Ojos Azules! This is very rare, so I'd doubt it, but it would be possible.

My friend's cat (which I have now learned is not a tabby and is just brown!) has no white on him, so I'm guessing it's from the mutation.

If it's the first picture, it is what is called sepia. Sepia is a lot like colourpoint, but just much darker. Keep in mind that this darkens over time, so if the cat is old he may seem completely solid. Thats why it still is albinism and would explain the blue eyes. In sepia, you can also have yellow eyes. As for the second picture, the cat would be cinnamon or chocolate and could only be explained by the mutation.
Now, google 'black cat blue eyes'. What you will see is either photoshop, a kitten, or Ojos Azules. The main way to tell Ojos Azules from not-Ojos Azules is the color.

That is a black cat with the mutation. You will see the color is pale-ish, what we call a cornflower blue. I think most black cats with blue eyes are photoshopped, however.
One last thing! You mentioned inheritance, but unlike colors like amber and green, blue eyes are caused by a lack of pigment. Let's take a dominant white cat with blue eyes whom we will call A and a brown tabby with green eyes called B.
A and B will have a kid who is just like B, a brown tabby and green eyes. All tabby kids will have green eyes as blue is caused by a lack of pigment and only a lack of pigment. Any more questions? I'm enjoying this :p

In the Warrior Cats world, there are dead cats that can fight and cats with superpowers. I don't think cats with blue eyes should be such a big deal.
I have also seen a lot of people screeching about Brook with grey eyes. The Tonkinese species of cat have pale blue, sometimes grey eyes. Just wanted to say that. Besides that you basically covered everything.

sapphireshard, pointed cats can be tabby, but it's more common in silver or red ones, not brown ones.

Thank you for making this. Because Warriors is a fantasy series, and not exactly true to cats in nature. I commonly design characters with eyes that contrast and and stand out against the fur.
I agree with your point, but a red-point with blue eyes is actually the only genetically accurate eye color for a pointed cat. All of them have blue eyes. The white kit with blue eyes is also completely accurate so congrats dood
It's bc colour pointing is a type of albinism, so the lack of pigment (colouration) in the fur also affects the eyes, so they appear blue.

i totally agree with this. my friend's OC BloodClaw has blue eyes and black fur and when my friend (or me sometimes cuz we share her) show anyone her design, they say "but she shouldnt have blue eyes! her fur is too dark!" or "thats not genetically accurate..." and i hate it.
Tbh for me it's more of a personal choice. I usually prefer realism for most of my ocs because, despite the fact that they can talk and have a working society, in the end they're still cats.
If you want to have a cat with blue eyes then go for it. I don't really care, just do what you want to do.

uuuuhhhhh the facts were pretty flawed. That orange cat is a pointed cat, which is a form of albinism and causes blue eyes. No one is claiming it doesn't. The tabby was an Ojos Azules cat, an extremely rare mutation causing cornflower blue eyes, but she did mention it. The purple example is called lilac in genetics, and looks kinda purple. No one is claiming that doesn't exist.

The colourpoints are a range of albinism though, no offence. They naturally have blue eyes, like most albino cats. Flame points are also colourpoints.
BUUT enough of me complaining, you're pretty right. Tons of the Warriors have blue and other unnaturally coloured eyes and in my opinion it just really helps add to their character (like very cold-hearted or serious characters e.g. Hawkfrost, Scourge and Bluestar).

I actually have an albino medicine cat oc in my fan fiction, who is the main character's mentor. For my entire fanfiction I'm trying to steer away from the stereotypes lol. (I'm not saying people can't write them in! Please don't get mad at me if you're reading my comment and offend you.)
Just to name a few things I'm doing:
1. The main character (who is actually my cat-sona) wanted to be medicine cat apprentice
2. Only one of the apprentices wants to be a leader or deputy out of five.
3. No forbidden relationships!
4. Two apprentices nearing warrior status (one about to have their ceremony that day) are able to beat a strong cat- but with difficulty!
5. Main character doesn't have a depressing backstory

THANK GOD SOMEONE FINALLY SAID IT. Some buzzkills in the fandom (not naming names) boost their own ego by saying they "follow proper cat genetics" and judge others who try and make characters look interesting. Warriors does not follow proper cat genetics, that's that.
I read in a cat book once that every single cats’ eyes start blue and while getting older they’re either going to stay blue or change to green. My cat had green eyes and she was I think a ragamuffin, and cats according to this cat breed book I read in the library several times that cats can be lilac/lavender, but, it just looks like a pretty looking gray, but it’s just some breeds that can be one out of several fur colors that can be lilac/lavender. When I looked it up after watching this it said they could be lilac/lavender, but in the cat breed book said just lilac. I have this Warrior Cats OC named Whitecloud and she’s supposed to be a blind gray she-cat with darker stripes but now watching this, I want it to look more realistic now, so I’m going to change the design at some point and make it look realistic because I’ve decided to.

Pinkish grey exist in cats. They are called Lilac cats.
The blue eyes are rare, and more common on cats with high white spotting (colorpoint don't count, it's not white spotting)
I personally think that it's up to you whther you want to give the warrior cats a realistic design or not, and same for your OCs. As a genetic lover, i don't put blue eyes often and make design changes in warriors just for genetics. But anyone make what they want. So yeah, it is totally fine to make an unrealitic design if it's your choice.
Designs are up to you. Make what you want and have fun. That's the only rule.

not even white cats always have blue eyes. white cats have them more often, but they still usually have yellow, green, amber, brownish, orange, or turquoise eyes. blue eyes usually result in deafness or lack of hearing.

Your lynx point cat probably doesn't have blue eyes because siamese, but because all pointed cats have blue eyes. Colourpoint is a form of albinism and causes blue eyes.

good, because at least two of my main OC's have blue eyes. Thrushheart, the son of Foxsong, has blue eyes, along with his father, which i can't seem to pinpoint a good name for that DOESN'T sound like a cannon warrior.
One of my characters have heterochromic eyes(one blue and one amber) which is very common in his breed. He is a Turkish Angora cat, he is pure white and deaf in one ear. The genetics show that is is very common that the Angora will be deaf in the side that has the blue eye. It's very common for a cat with white fur and blue eyes to be deaf but not always.

Agreed; as long as your OC isn't bright purple or green or something covered in black rings and stars and abstract designs that get too cluttered(pet peeve of mine, just an opinion), it's fine to make them however you want.

Green also works, but I doubt the wiki could NOT handle it. Bluish purple is realistic. Kind of. More blue than purple. Pinkish is hard but not impossible. It's ginger and white in the same spot. Add some gray and there. White fur blue eyes is most likely albino, and albinos get freebie Jayfeather passes.
And then there's yellow eyes. Ah yes my beautiful golden cat. His eyes are yellow, his kittens all have green eyes except his son. His son was gray and white, a tabby with marks only on the gray, with some yellow. The others? Tabbycos. From two tabbies. Mittens and Shadow are half-siblings to these four with shadow being a dark brown tabby with green eyes and mittens being a black tabby with a white underbelly, white paws, brown around her muzzle, and green eyes. The tabbycos and Shadow have a common trait from Lily, their mother. Well, besides green eyes. A single white toe on one paw. Then there's Lucky. She's a maine coone. When she was a kitten we found her. She was black, fluffy, and had silver highlights. Now she's extremely fluffy (minimum hair lengyh for medium hair - I'm scared to see a long haired cat) and has dark reddish brown highlights rather than silver. Her eyes? Pale yellow-green. Screamer is a half-sister to Mittens and Shadow, but not their half siblings. She is a brown tabby with green eyes. Her mother was a calico with eyes I don't remember. And then Midnight. Standard black cat with green eyes.

I totally agree with this. Warriors is completely fictional, so why do our OCs have to be "realistic"? Besides, warrior cats have been in the wild for generations, and so things we havent seen before in pure-bred cats could be possible. No one has to make their OCs realistic unless they want to. Like I have a black OC, two black-and white cats, a gray cat, a tan and white cat, a silver and black cat, and my friend has a ginger cat, all with blue eyes. It shouldn't matter.

It's because kitten eyes are intitially coated with a protective chemical that fades away once their eyes have opened and adjusted themselves, usually at around 8 weeks

Well, my black cat oc had purple eyes, but i changed it.
Albinism in the eyes can look purple is certain light conditions. (Albinism can just be in the eyes it doesn't always affect the whole body)
The cats with blue eyes are NOT purebred so the eyes are unknown of being whatever color. (NONE of the cats are known purebreds!!! The cats that are closer to be purebreds are kitty pets!)
Pinkish grey can be possible if a certain light gives it a shade of pink or if the hair is short enough and the cat has pink skin it can make the grey fur look pinkish.
