    Thanks for posting. Very informative and a few of the artists mentioned I haven't researched before. Also I didn't know Kazuo Ohno said that line about that Jesus was a butoh master. Because Evengelical churches already have crazy bodies, it makes me want to do butoh at a church.

      Ha! I performed once with a group called the Butoh Rockettes, directed by Celeste Hastings, at the old St. Mark's Church in the East village in NYC.

    Bob it would be great to explore the western take on Butoh, on how the teaching has transformed in the west and how it develops. Also I wanted to ask you if anybody combined dancing and playing an instrument on stage. Thank again for this video,

      That's a good idea for a future video. I have played drums as part of a butoh performance once or twice, but I always found the transition from body focused to playing an instrument to feel a little unnatural. I'm sure If I worked on it more, I could have found a way to incorporate it better.
