I first found your videos, when looking for a review of this rifle...
I have since been and watched alot of your other reviews.
You are the best firearms review channel on TH-cam, very professional, very informative, and very honest.
As you was impressed with this rifle for the price,
I'd love to see you do a review on the savage axis series of rifles, especially in .223 and .243.
For those of us, more budged conscious enthusiasts.
    Keep up the great work.

Thanks Ozzie. Just got the same gun (but not in SS) four days ago. Took it to the outdoor state range and gave it some exercise. Using Lapua Center-X, at 50 yards it is not uncommon to get .25" groups for five rounds. It also likes SK of various types. I'm sure I'll get similar results to you with hunting and plinking ammo. I also had a little trouble with bolt re-insertion until I figured out what it wants to do. The oily Lapua and SK ammo is a bear to try to load into the mag! Otherwise, with non-oily ammo, still a little more difficult than a 10/22 mag, but not a deal-breaker. I paid US $290 + tax. This level of accuracy for that price is what is so impressive about Savage! I also have a heavy-barrel 10/22 that is this accurate, but a lot more $$ into it to get it there! It's loaded with Kidd parts.

i recently bought the savage b22 in 22lr F blued synth in leftie, and same accuracy with me, sub one inch at 50 yards, bout an inch at 100 when there is no wind, was hitting rabbits dead on at 100/125yrds absolutely love this rifle, only thing i dislike, is the chamber where the round sits, i've had no feeding issues, just ruddy hard to get the cleaning rod in without a bore guide.

I was more than disappointed ( at first ) with my B22 Savage rifle.
    I have the `plain`matte black ( blued?) version,with a Tasco World Class True Mil-Dot 3-9x40 scope.
First of all, I'd like to have a chat with the folks who designed that twirling head bolt. What the heck's with that ?
I tried and tried to get the bolt back into the receiver when I got it first, and what a chore that was; until I realized that the head of it MUST be aligned with the bolt body according to the mark.
Then just try and load that magazine! As you discovered too there's another job to press those cartridges into that thing.
Looks as if they ( Savage) tried to imitate Ruger's American Rimfire Rifle, but made a miserable job of doing so.
Like your review discovered, it is a nice shooter, once you overcome these annoyances.
My rifle, shoots like your's did, straight and true.
Thanks for confirming that it's 'the rifle' and not just me, with this model Savage.
However, would I recommend buying one of these,...yes I would, and I would suggest that folks watch your video review first, so they'll know what to expect.
    Cheers.

I put the bolts in the safe when not in use. The B22 is really finicky about the trigger (pull fully before inserting bolt), and about the alignment. I may have to go to cable-lock and key.

Truly a benchmark rifle for the price class, and Savage is really impressive with its quality control; I don't know anyone here in the U.S. who owns a Mark II that isn't a top notch shooter; the The Mark II FVSR can hold its own with Anschutz and Kidd 10/22 rebuilds, dry your eyes if you spent big bucks on one of those, but check out Long Range Shooters of Utah if you doubt me. The B series seem to be making their mark as well, but you really need a high power scope, at least 20x to do justice to the rifles at testing.

My Savage MKII F is super accurate.
I agree with he Floating Bolt and untill I watched your video I had trouble inserting it every time. But now I know of the line to align it should be quicker, Thanks
I also found with the bolt if it keeps unwinding it actually comes off. Both really minor issues unless like you said you need to take the bolt out in low Light in the field.
Have you tried Sellier & Ballot ammo?
I just did a test with them and found it to be reasonably good out of my Savage.
    Good review👍

Good review. I like the MkII and 93R17 Savage rimfires and have one of each. While the new synthetic stock is an improvement, I have to wonder why they have to go for lumpy, space age shapes. A classic American sporter style with high straight comb and none of the silly curves etc would IMO look a whole lot classier.

For a very weird reason, this uses pistol bullets.
It is advantageous for Light-Sniper-Rifle units (if they exist).
For some reason, this is probably the only sniper in the world that uses Rotary-Mags. Even weirder, they can hold 10 rounds!
So this is what I've learned in the video.
Wow, a revolver-sniper. The hybrid that my own country made. Proud.

Considering the Marlins have been discontinued for quite a while and he’s in Australia that might be a big ask for him to find one. It’s a shame that Marlin had to change hands so many times and end up with the sinking ship Remington before going away completely. Glad to see that in the bankruptcy that Ruger bought the rights to Marlin…I’d love to see them come out with rimfire and centerfire rifles that aren’t just the Marlin lever guns…but much like Remington, Ruger probably knows that would compete with their own American line of rifles.

Do you think the stainless version is worth the extra money over the FV?
Entirely off topic (about as far as you can get): if you feel the urge to test the Bergara B14 HMR I wouldn't hold that against you...

Which has at times been blamed for inaccuracy if it floats too much. Shimming the bolt head is a common 77/22 mod.

    • @ozziereviews
      @ozziereviews  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes but the Ruger 77 lines up and stays in place whereas this will turn off alignment slightly and you can't get the bolt inserted...

I love how accurate these more affordable rifles and scopes have gotten with the right ammo. This review has made me consider getting one of these in 17hmr. Would be safe to assume it would perform similarly if not better given the 22lr isn't an inherently accurate round to begin with?

Listening to the shots, I really doubt that the Highland is subsonic - it sounded louder and more of a "crack" than the other subsonic rounds - in fact just like the HV rounds.
Nice and accurate, but I really think that action is ugly ...
