His voice is fantastic, but, her harmony is out of this world. One of the most sad songs ive ever heard

That year, 1978, that Gacy was caught...we had not seen or had communication with my older brother for at least a year. We lived north of Chicago, and you can't imagine the fear and trepidation we had as each body, in its turn, was identified, expecting the worst. We had no relief from this stress until a few years later when we finally tracked my brother down playing with the field team of the Red Sox. When I hear that line "He killed ten thousand people" I think of how true that is...even though he only killed 33, every one of those 33 had friends and family who, in their own way, had a piece of themselves killed...and spiraling even beyond that you have the families of boys who disappeared in that time frame, who have never resurfaced, leaving them in limbo...it could easily total ten thousand the amount of people affected by the actions of this sad, sad clown.

This is the line that makes dumbasses who say Sufjan was glorifying JWG look so dumb. He’s obviously respecting the victims by connecting them with their humanity as kids who were killed, with him not even being able to finish the sentence and just giving up. He is not defending murder, he is reflecting on it and what brought a person to commit such heinous acts.

the songs conclusion: "And in my best behavior i am really just like him
    Look beneath the floor boards
For the secrets I have hid" is a a deep insight on how every man is capable of hurting people. I wish more people knew that evil is a very present thing between people.

Or, perhaps he was hinting at coming out, which he did in 2023. You'll note of course that JWG murdered men and boys after raping them. There's a harrowing account on Soft White Underbelly of a man who escaped Gacy's clutches when he was a teen. It's bone chilling.

    • @snikersnack
      @snikersnack 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Exactly! It's harder to compliment someone you don't know but it is easier to yell at someone who cut you off. Evil is more present all we do is suppress it some do better and some don't...

This song makes me feel sick and saddened at the same time yet it’s such a beautiful tune so I allow myself to be utterly captivated by it. Sufjan is truly one of a kind to turn something so horrifying into something so beautiful. Love him and his music so much.

His father was a drinker and his mother cried in bed
Folding John Wayne's t-shirts when the swingset hit his head
    The neighbors they adored him
For his humor and his conversation
    Look underneath the house there
Find the few living things, rotting fast, in their sleep
    Oh the dead
    27 people
Even more, they were boys, with their cars, summer jobs
    Oh my God
    Are you one of them?
He dressed up like a clown for them
With his face paint white and red
    And on his best behavior
In a dark room on the bed he kissed them all
    He'd kill ten thousand people
With a slight of his hand, running far, running fast to the dead
He took off all their clothes for them
He put a cloth on their lips, quiet hands, quiet kiss on the mouth
    And in my best behavior
I am really just like him
    Look beneath the floor boards
For the secrets I have hid
