    Very good!!! you’ve saved me a fortune, Here in Norway it costs between 450 - 500 pounds to replace pads, doing it myself now. Cheers!!!

    When pushing piston use the bleeder value. The fluid nearest the caliper is often the fluid which gets warmest and dirtiest. Rather than force this "dirty" fluid back into the system allow it to bleed. It can always be replaced with new fluid in the resovir if need be. Also turn the wheel so that it is easier work on bolts behind.

      With my taxi miles I replace brake pads very often, so I don't see much point of hassle replacing brake fluid and bleeding and making sure that there's no air trapped in for every pad change.
      I'll just replace fluid in whole system once in a while.

      That camera view was set on "fish eye", discs weren't that great. I don't remember by now, but probably they also could have been deformed and causing vibrations when braking on high speed.

      Krzysztof Sieniuc So far mine doesn't have any problem, but it has done only 70k. I'm a taxi driver myself, so it's gonna have a lot of miles. My previous car was Audi A6 (C6 4F), it had few weak spots, so my videos about that Audi are quite popular. But this bad boy (sharan) just doesn't brake, so I don't know what to film. After holiday, I'm planning to do cambelt.. And then we'll see how it goes..

    Hello, first of all thank-you for your videos. I followed this guide and replaced my Alhambra front rotors and brake pads.
    I'm thinking about doing same operation with rear ones. Is it same procedure? Or there is something to take into account with electric parking brake (that's my main concern). A big thank you for you.

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you :) I replaced my rear pads just couple month ago, but didn't have time to make a video at that moment, but with the mileage I do, it will take no more than a year, till I do it again.
      Regarding parking brake - I have little diagnostics device Foxwell NT500. I used it for my previous car (Audi A6) and it works on this one.
      With diagnostics software it's easy - select option to open/rewind parking brake, car winds them back as far as they go, you take calipers off. But, even from that position you have to push them back with that tool. Unlike pistons on the front, not only they need to be pressed in, but also turned at the same time. The rest is pretty much the same. Once it's done, select option to close parking brake.
      If you don't have anything to "tell" your car to unwind and wind calipers... The I don't have much experience. I know that garages who didn't have a computer used to refuse to change pads for my Audi.
      The motor for caliper can be removed (2 screws on sides), then you can rewind manually with allen key. Also I've seen a video on TH-cam, when guy disconnected plug and applied 12 Volts to wind the motor - polarity changes direction. However, I have no practical experience with any of that.

    I notice that your bottle jack is a little "behind" the regular jacking point. Is that right? How do you identify that spot?

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Robert Morris My big apologies for ignoring your question - haven't been on TH-cam for few days (few crazy days for me :)) ) It's a very good question. I don't remember where exactly I stuck the jack in that video, but it looks like I was ashamed to show it :) - just made a point of type of a jack. Likely in the video it was on non-reinforced part. I do it differently now - I use pieces of plywood. Just have done a cambelt on this Sharan, where I had to jack it up - it will take at least a week to process it (still have to do my main job) - in there I show it all. I use piece of plywood about 4cm wide on a top of a jack and fit it between that metal stripe and the edge of the car, also use plywood at the bottom of jack and stands and the stand I put on reinforced stripe as usual. That works for me. Here, below, is the link with the screenshots from that cambelt video coming: www.wheelsandmotors.com/show_thread.php?id=127

    A quick note: On a left hand drive car, the brake fluid reservoir is on opposite side compared to this video. Behind the battery and hard to see and reach without removing air intake pipe.

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I normally clean it with de-greaser spray to make sure there's no oil (some of them come in bags covered in oil to prevent rusting). As for the road dirt - it doesn't have to be medically clean ;) Think about it - your brakes, as you drive, constantly exposed to dirt, rain and puddles.. I'm not saying that you have to dip it in mud before fitting - just keep it tidy and make sure there's no lubricants on braking surfaces.

      Sorry Sukhraj, currently don't have time for new videos.
      Most cars have process of brake fluid change, and there are few videos here on TH-cam about it.
      It's all about how you bleed the brakes. I prefer using pressuriser over just pumping it with the pedal.

    Hey for a 2018 Sharan, a 2 tonne axle stand enough? Or shall o buy a 3 tonne axle stand

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need 2 stands, not just one. They normally come in pairs. And if they state "2 tonnes" they mean as a pair. The car weights about 2 tonnes, and because you would lift only half (like front), pair of 2 tonne stands should be enough, although 3 tonne is better. I'm obsessed with safety, I use stands + jacks + anything else together. Please remember - it's 2 stands, not a single stand.
