Exactally my train of thought. Making capes more common deincentifies account hacking, and it gives everyone have something that would have been impossible for most casual players who would never have had a chance to attend a minecon. In my eyes, it's a win-win.

I'm probably going to be the black sheep here, but honestly I really wanted a cape all the way back to 2013 and was soooo happy to get one in 2021 at long last, even though it's super common. Although I really wanted one I also didn't really appreciate them much back then because they were just TOOOOO rare. So rare that it was basically a pointless cosmetic since I knew a lot of people who had played Minecraft for over 5 years and didn't even know about the existence of capes within Java they were literally that rare. So having some capes come through now that others can get for a limited time (and importantly not indefinitely!!) not only makes people notice them more and appreciate them more but it also makes people (at least me anyway) appreciate all the older rare ones too since they're a rare design but not a rare cosmetic. Andddd not to mention account hacking will significantly go down.
I think it’s cool that you can get common capes nowadays, it adds a lot to your avatar, but at the same time, they’re not very impactful. However, getting a very rare cape is very impactful and cool. Capes aren’t ruined, there are just newer more common capes nowadays, and older more valuable and rare ones that are super impactful.
As an 2012 OG Minecon Cape owner i can agree that the new players doenst even knew this capes or think its from Labymod or Optifine only the OGs knows the rare capes.. it was so rare back then..

When i was smaller i always wanted cape, it looked cool (still does) i saw my favourite youtubers having one and that made me wanting one even more. So i went on the internet and started looking for one and i think that was in 2014-2016? Not sure but i heard that one of them was obtainable by going to the London to the Minecon, wich i could not do cause my family was poor. so i gave up for the Minecon one and was looking for other ones aaaand no luck, so i gave up completely. And now when minecraft is celebrating 15th birthday (Happy birthday minecraft :3) i finnaly got chance to get one, (yes i know that when mobvoting on ver. 1.21. was out you could get the cherry blossom cape by voting but i found out when it was already over so yeee.) so i claimed it and now i have on vannila my first ever cape and now i feel bad cause of this vid saying that it is not as good as old ones. The reason for them giving capes more and more is likely because they don’t like the black market, and it makes sense, if I had a 100k dollars just rolling around I would buy a couple thousand dollar exclusive account if I really wanted that exclusivity, and by giving capes to everyone, you may feel that need less, along with the fact that since minecon is gone, they have to find other ways to give capes, ones that don’t seem unfair
No, I'm actually not kidding, they no longer have submissions up because they already have builders to build the maps for the realms, last time they accepted a submission was in 2020

Wanting to gatekeep capes is kind of weird imo. The previous Minecon capes are still just as rare. Just let people be happy with at least 1 cape on their account. In a way a free cape can be a big motivator for people to get back into playing Minecraft again and Mojang probably has statistics to back this up, so expect more easily accessible capes releasing at least 1 - 3 times a year.
The capes becoming more common actually made me more invested in Minecraft again ngl, because it's about time Mojang actually CHANGED SOMETHING for once that is actually good. You have to remember that most of them play on bedrock. Most people that play actively on java have at least the migrator cape or the new 15th anniversary cape.

My main issues come with the Twitch, TikTok, Cherry, and migrator capes. Being forced to use another platform to get a minecraft cape is just cheap, and was probably only done for the money microsoft could get out of it since it is helping twitch/tiktok gain more money. The migrator cape isn't a reward for migrating, it's kinda a mark of shame everyone must bare; at least the 10/15 year capes were for celebration, but this? I sure do love celebrating microsoft! Cherry is just kind of pointless. Its just a cape, celebrating nothing, also its an eye sore with how bright it is. Old capes will stay valuable, and new capes will keep progressively getting worse.

And even though the new capes seem like it has no meaning, truthfully they all do, and that's what makes the capes so special other than rarity, especially the 15th anniversary cape, it represents Minecraft's 15th birthday, and it has a clean design, and gives off a some sort of a split image of having a Minecon cape, and trust me, it'll get more and more better by the future. Because for now on Jeb is the one that's gonna make the designs, and he's also the one that made the Minecon capes designs and textures too. so we might get more Minecon like capes in the future, and also the Minecon 2019 event was just as the same as the conventions nowadays, so i think that's why we have Minecraft live now than Minecon live..
