This is definitely a hyper nerfed version of Dr Fate but tbh. It would actually make more sense if he did nothing the whole movie until the demon arrived. That's normally what he does. Depends. In some versions, Kent Nelson is possibly one of the strongest Doctor Fates because he either has the most sway on Nabu's decisions than any other host, or he just has full control as Dr. Fate.
One correction though. Kent DOES have a few powers without the helmet, such as telekinesis for instance, but he isn't anything more than a budget Constantine until he puts the helm on.
They nerfed the shit out of him but goddamn did they do him justice in terms of visual effects. Every scene with Fate or Kent was just really engaging and look awesome, I really enjoyed all the super-characters in this movie and wouldve loved to see a JSA movie with all of them; Very fun film.

I like to think that Kent holds himself back voluntarily so the new generation can have some spotlight. We can clearly see he has a dying wish but refuses to do so until he feels another hero can carry his burden, hence by unleashing Adam he frees himself as well.
I am actually really upset with this Dr. Fate. Sure, the acting, top notch. The graphics and powers, awesome. But the entire point of Fate is that the person wearing the helmet is NOT Dr. Fate. The helmet is a vessel for the real doc, and whoever wears it gives up control of themselves and their body to allow such a powerful force of good to be in the world. Those scenes where they just slip the helmet on and off, those would never happen, cause Fate never knew when or if someone would put the helmet back on, and if something happened that he could have stopped, and wasn't able to, he would never forgive himself. Plus, they nerfed him so hard😭
Just like the last Avengers movies, the high paid actors need screen time lol. Any excuse for close up shots of the expensive actors they bought, the studio will make it work

I don't know what's worse, because nerfing him kind of makes sense but what doesn't is him being able to use his powers without the helmet. For non-comic readers that helmet is the source of his power - if it's removed he isn't remotely close to the level of power he has with it on... So as a fan of the character him taking it off every chance he got was a problem...

Great summary. Just one flaw. Doctor Fate cannot remove the Helmet of Nabu at will. It was stated in JSA series Nabu inhabited Kent Nelson's body. And everytime Nabu appeared and processed him the more powerful Nabu grows. Nelson's age is slow down to the point where he became virtually immortal. Aside from this observation Doctor Fate definitely earned a place on the big screen. Maybe it will come true in the DCU? 🤔

Is it because of the Rock's contract that he can't lose a fight, they made Dr. Fate weak? I noticed that with Vin Diesel as well, I don't watch their movies because you know how it's gonna end. Dr. Fate beaten by Black Adam is insane to think that's possible even the Hawk.

Since they STUPIDLY killed him off, we need a “Fate & Hawkman” prequel showing how these 2 became such friends b/c of the battles they fought together. Just leave out the rest of the Justice Society (we don’t need to see another DCU super team flick), and do a Fate/Hawkman movie w/maybe a cameo or two.
They just killed the bearer not nabu(the helm). Nabu will just find another bearer and become the next dr. Fate. My theory for this is the new bearer is Giovanni John Zatara (Zatanna's Father)

Thing is...they had to stay relevant. Also the guy is actually so strong he can basically eat everyone in DC for lunch but in live action being a side character, he had to be nerfed. That's why

The real reason most film/anime mcs always have plot armor. If this movie is called Dr Fate, it will be a different story.
If I recalled correctly, this character is supposedly extremely powerful, but ultimately get sidelined most of the time because the writers are never able to effectively write him into a story without him being too powerful.
It would’ve been so cool if they used the voice character of Dr. Fate from the justice league series, Oded Fehr to play him in this movie😊

Dr Fate's helmet should have eyes
Great summary. Just one flaw. Doctor Fate cannot remove the Helmet of Nabu at will. It was stated in JSA series Nabu inhabited Kent Nelson's body. And everytime Nabu appeared and processed him the more powerful Nabu grows. Nelson's age is slow down to the point where he became virtually immortal. Aside from this observation Doctor Fate definitely earned a place on the big screen. Maybe it will come true in the DCU? 🤔

Fate can never take off his helmet. That's the whole point. Nabby boy is INSIDE the helmet itself, take off the helmet and he has no power. Pierce did a great job, but he was severely nerfed and they did his character a huge injustice. Also again, they also took the helmet off...you can't do that...
They could have done the glowing white eyes too, dunno why they didn't
