I bought these same numbers at Lowe’s last week to make a new number sign for an elderly neighbor. At least on the four I bought, the threads on the posts were deformed along with the internal threads on the numbers. Actually had one of the posts snap off while twisting it into the number with my fingers! I emailed Hillman Hardware about it, and they informed me that I must have purchased an older set, and that they had redesigned the posts. I don’t know how you tell the difference, but they are supposedly sending me replacements. I used the number drilling patterns on the packages to center the four digits up by placing them side to side against each other, measuring the total width of the numbers, then marking the centerline at the proper place on the proper number. In my case, 1923, the centerline is actually on the 2, not between 9 and 2 as it would seem! Then I marked a centerline on the board and lined up accordingly. Another warning: the template hole locators did not match the actual location of the pins! I found this out AFTER marking them with an awl! And if the holes are off by just little bit, the pins are going to break off when applied to the board! If I used these things again, I’d trace the numbers onto wax paper, then flip the number and waxed paper over and mark the hole centers on the clear sheet. Lastly, lay the cardboard pattern under the w. p. and mark around the edges of the cardboard and cut it out. Then use the pattern you made to mark the centers on the board. The finished product looks great! You just have to “think outside the, uh, board” on the number application!

Literally happened to me today I bought 5 different numbers and all of them have 1 thread that won’t let me score in the anchors smh

@@The_k1d206 Yea. Definitely a poorly designed product, or possibly just no quality control! Too many issues for what would seem a simple project!

4:23 instead just put the on cardboard, push down to create dents, then put cardboard on wood and drill through dents.

You can "inevitably" make the holes slightly bigger

Yep. Probably would have made the process a little easier but I made the holes based on the Numbers instructions. Thanks for watching Lauren.

While you did a good job and it looks good and all, for my area in Vegas, the mountains cause it to get dark early in the afternoon (around 4pm), and I've seen UPS and Amazon out trying to make out house addresses in the dark. I bought a lighted sign online and get plenty of compliments from the neighbors. I got the colored LED version so it randomly changes colors for Christmas, but I can also make it just black and white, (although everyone likes seeing it in blue.)

There’s a template included with those house numbers , I’ve used those same ones a few times in the past it’s much easier doing it that way instead of trying to line them up the way you did, I know that because my first time with them I did the same thing that you did, a helpful tip for next time

Tommy Alan Raines That’s right. You can line up the templates for perfect spacing, then tape them down and drill your holes using the marks.

This wood finish would work well on your wood project most likely. Just make sure your wood is dried out and acclimated to the inside temp of your dwelling. Thanks for watching Dana.

Sure, they come with templates, but eyeballing spacing between the numbers will give you a more balanced look in many situations, especially if your house number includes a one. If you’re terrible at eyeballing use the templates.
