67th Birthday Bar Hang~Gene Burnett

  • Here I am on my 67th birthday doing a minute long plus bar hang. This is something I do in addition to pull-ups. I've only been doing it for a few months, and strengthening anything as we get older can be a slow process, but I do feel my tendons are getting stronger already. When I first started 40 seconds was all I could do. But I was up to a minute with a week. And that's been where I've stayed ever since. Even now the last 10 seconds or so are only a little bit easier. I should say too that I never strain for the numbers. By strain I mean effort in a way that's inviting injury. When I start to strain, regardless of the numbers, I stop. So today, I went a little past my usual. If you want to try this, especially if you are older, you'll need a secure bar to hang from, your health care practitioner's OK, and a lot of patience. Go slow, don't strain.
