      Being a insider, can i tell you, what actually happened to Tata motors in1990 -2000 . Tata Sierra Tata sumo and Tata safari were doing well in SUV market. But the competitor Mahindra launched that time best SUV Mahindra Armada 1998. Then in 1999 Mahindra bolero. Both models snatched market of tata Sierra and Tata sumo. Tata Sierra discontinued. Then Ratan Tata observed opportunity in small hatchback car and sedan car segment. Their Maruti Suzuki, hundai are only two players and that time govt company Hindustan motors living on oxygen by govt. So he started Tata Indica. But due to high influence of maruti suzuki harmed Tata alot. Congress leaders, and Indira Gandhi family has huge share holders in Maruti company. And Congress has major state govts. They didn't allow Tata Indica to work properly in 1998. By 2000 Ratan Tata planned to stay only in SUV segment but not in small car segment. So he proposed this to Ford company. That time Ford was very much interested to enter India with its variety of small car models. Hence they accepted to discuss acquire plan. Mean while big mouth Ford managers and top leadership spilled some bad words with as usual American ego. Patriotic Ratan Tata politely rejected further meeting. He returned. This time, in India most of the states were freed from Congress. In center atal bihari vajpayee was PM. Hence TATA indica car sale increased. And also ambassador taxis wire replace with Tata Indica. That time Maruti Suzuki 800 car was named as out dated. Hundai and Ford also came with new models with curvy edges body and smooth suspension. So as per trend infica car was very attractive. Hence it ruled 20 years. Rest is history. Tata and Mahindra rivalry started scorpio vs safari. For every Tata car mahindra has an alternative. So it's second part history.

    Jaguar Land Rover or JLR as it is known is as good as dead. The company has not been able to create a replacement for it's flagship XJ or for the Range Rover. It's last "V6 engine" was a V* with two cylinders blocked off - an utter joke. Yes, Ford are jokers - their cars are crap - and Ratan Tata was an industrial giant. JLR, though, is not an example to hold up to the world.
