American football fan here - I'm incredibly impressed at the agility and speed of these rugby players. I wish sports channels in the US would broadcast rugby; I'd love to see more.
those passes are amazing...I loved the one where the guy with the ball reached behind himself and pulled the guys hair that was trying to tackle him and then ran accross the line
I have seen all of these amazing tries, but I am still convinced that the try at 0:47 - 1:03 is the best try I have ever seen in my life! The guy is kinda chubby, but he was dodging people soo well, it was perfect! He just picked the right pathway, but then he gets tackled, but slides like 5 meters into the scoring zone, so fuck yeah! amazing!
Completley different to us Football. In rugby you hav to touch the ball to the ground with substantial pressure in the try scoring zone and be in complete control of the ball. Opposition can do rip/tackle the ball out your hands at any time. :D
wellington is a good rugby side they make through to the semis from 2003-2004 they made the final at home. last year they were the best side in the comp. but were beatin by a very good cantrerbury side
all these teams are new zealand teams, this isnt the super 12 (which is now super 15) comp. just if anyone wanted to know :P and carlos spencer was the man :|
does anybody else think that the way the game is played has changed from this vid to what it is now? or is it just these vids that theyve taken that shows really fast gameplay? which imo is awesome. much faster game than what it is now...
I don't play rugby, but I have found this in fighting. Accept that you're gonna get hit. let yourself take a hit, and after time, you'll find that it ain't half as bad as you think.
@liuchies Yeh he's right too. There's a hell of a lot more skills in Rugby than just the spectacular tries you see here. It would be about 20 years at least & that would require a huge growth of the sport over there. In 3-4 years you could be a top rugby 7's team though, you've improved a lot recently & I think they've made a world series final already as well. Keep in mind performance enhancing drugs are illegal in Rugby too, I know that's not the case in the NFL & probably for good reason too.
These teams are from places like Australia and New Zealand and they generally play faster balls. A much different style of play than the European teams
@AndyMack95 I think there is confusion over what kind of football you are referring to, I assume you mean Rugby came from football (soccer to you yanks), not that Rugby came from American football. To clear that up though Rugby was actually being played at the School of Rugby (hence where the name comes from) as early as 1750. That's before the Declaration of Independence and therefore, fair to say a long time before American Football was around!
yeah, I know, Im from New Zealand. But for some reason, I think that this vid shows much faster ball back then, than the super14 now. European teams used to play faster balls too, from what ive seen and see now
@musashi1619 have you tried playing football? cause im pretty sure you wouldnt even have played a single down. i wont say anything on rugby cause i have never played it but would like to someday
Big hits are made in rugby too, NFL doesnt have a monopoly on that, besides they wear half a foot of padding so they can afford to, also the average play lasts about 10 seconds in NFL so they dont have to worry about conserving energy.
i reckon most people think rugby is about big fat guys pummelling eachother, This video totally shows the opposite. it shows the speed and skill in rugby.
It's annoying hearing people say that rugby is better than American football or vise versa. Each is great in its own way. I play American football, but I would never play rugby. I know that in rugby, people try to take people down. In American football, people try to kill each other. The two sports are very similar, but very different
150 lb = 71 Kg... so maybe in the u16s. Mind you, a couple of recent Springbok props went close to double that, but the modern game has taken them out of the equation.
wait im confused here. how come theres only a couple guys who wear like helmets or whatever? and do you have to slide into the goal place in order to score? or can you just run in there? sorry guys, i dont know much about rugby ahaha but im gonna play in college though :)
umm generally, that doesnt mean all of them. and have u evr seen a wide receiver knock over any line man while running? no caz they get pummeled into the ground.
@20327070 LOOOOLLL aite man thanks a lot! ahahhaa loved your explanation. so like if you ran in without touching the ball on the ground, they would like still tackle you and stuff?
What countries play Grid Iron? Is there a world cup? Can you play NFL at a local level a grass roots level? and why does it take 3 and a half hours to play a 48 minute game?
American football fan here - I'm incredibly impressed at the agility and speed of these rugby players. I wish sports channels in the US would broadcast rugby; I'd love to see more.
That side step at 0:56 just put a HUGE smile on my face!
And the Rocket boost from the stiff arm at 1:50 = epic!!!
I played football for 6 years. Then I discovered rugby, and 4 years later I'm still with it and never turning back.
There is no way there can be that many awesome tries in one season! The defender in the scrumcap at 1:35 is quick.
I'm from the U.S. and when seeing this I appreciate rugby so much more. I mean these guys can run
the guy who scored that last try was so massive but also so quick that was amazing
that last try by that highlanders forward was sick. what a monster!
those passes are amazing...I loved the one where the guy with the ball reached behind himself and pulled the guys hair that was trying to tackle him and then ran accross the line
3:59. Some insane power there- everyones getting taken out!!
Some brilliant tries there.
3:02 is great! Great vid mate.
@Bulletjie32 No. It is really fun to watch. Especially when good teams play against each other.
The passing is just amazing, the ball almost seems to moving in the air.
im a fan and player of american fotbal, i wish rugby was more popular here so i could learn and see more about it. i think its a great sport
great variety of some exciting tries
I have seen all of these amazing tries, but I am still convinced that the try at 0:47 - 1:03 is the best try I have ever seen in my life! The guy is kinda chubby, but he was dodging people soo well, it was perfect! the one thing every one of these has in common? teamwork
I played 8 years college and mens level. It is the worlds second largest club sport.
It is going to be awesome in the 2016 Olympics!
This video rocks, good job!
Umaga, Spencer, Marshall?
"Simply The Best"
Marshall what a legend. He plays for the Ospreys as well now. :)
DUDE, amazing. Wish our school team could play like that.
Their spin passes are beautiful ...
that IS some class...very nice vid!
If I needed a video to demonstrate to someone how awesome rugby can be.
This is it.
On another point - notice how clean the rucks were back in 2002?
very true, and some of the passes/offloads are out of this world
Completley different to us Football. In rugby you hav to touch the ball to the ground with substantial pressure in the try scoring zone and be in complete control of the ball. Opposition can do rip/tackle the ball out your hands at any time. :D
rugby is beast, i would also like to see america get more into the sport. do you know wut channel you could watch rugby league on?
I love Rugby. Rugby is an awesome sport.
these are some amazing tries!!
that keith lohan dude was amazing!
it's like an endless hard nosed run game, very exciting. The only other time i get more excited watching a runner is when Adrian Peterson runs.
The game looks so much more fluent than it is now...now it's just massive hits and very stop start
man what a performance! supercharged human beings
Where on Direct TV (US satellite) can I find Rugby?
every play on here looks like the stanford cal band play haha
1:54 that guy on the right has an incredible speed
wellington is a good rugby side they make through to the semis from 2003-2004 they made the final at home. last year they were the best side in the comp. but were beatin by a very good cantrerbury side
I dont know anything about rugby haha but this reminds me of ultimate frisbee but with no stopping, hitting and way more fun
all these teams are new zealand teams, this isnt the super 12 (which is now super 15) comp. just if anyone wanted to know :P
and carlos spencer was the man :|
Those are pretty epic.
@agmundel and im pretty sure the any good running backs in the nfl can own in rugby. no doubt
does anybody else think that the way the game is played has changed from this vid to what it is now? or is it just these vids that theyve taken that shows really fast gameplay? which imo is awesome. much faster game than what it is now...
Also i like pissing off some of these spazzes because it's funny.
brilliant tries, new zealand rules at rugby
lovely tries
yea but how many are on the field at once?
is that cullen playing at fullback for lions
I don't play rugby, but I have found this in fighting. Accept that you're gonna get hit. let yourself take a hit, and after time, you'll find that it ain't half as bad as you think.
Rugby is the best sport in the world and is incredibly addictive.
@Bulletjie32 Yeah I found that out after reading the original comment. But I allready posted the comment before that
@liuchies Yeh he's right too. There's a hell of a lot more skills in Rugby than just the spectacular tries you see here. cool
tries
of year
Two questions about Rugby from an American:
1. What is a "try"?
2. At what point is the play considered to be over (without scoring)?
a lot of waikato tries. who won that year??
How many concussions per year?
These teams are from places like Australia and New Zealand and they generally play faster balls. A much different style of play than the European teams
@tommyzzz123 if thats the case why cant northern hemisphere national teams score far less tries when playing southern hemisphere teams
never thought rugby was entertaining
@MrScrumhalf its in the 2012 also. But only 7's
This sport is amazing! This and ice hockey.
"all they do is kick it back and forth to eachother" I thought that was football
first time i watched this, the dan blair try at 1:31 i almost missed cus he was so fast to accelerate
I actually watched it TWICE.
yeah, I know, Im from New Zealand. But for some reason, I think that this vid shows much faster ball back then, than the super14 now. European teams used to play faster balls too, from what ive seen and see now
@Flareon221SH yes it is
@liuchies Also, imagine having Polomalu as a Fullback and a Devin Hester/Adrian Peterson wing combo.
@musashi1619 have you tried playing football? cause im pretty sure you wouldnt even have played a single down. i wont say anything on rugby cause i have never played it but would like to someday
r ok cool. ive been 2 new zealand twice and absolutely loved it. i didnt get 2 c any rugby there tho.
Big hits are made in rugby too, NFL doesnt have a monopoly on that, besides they wear half a foot of padding so they can afford to, also the average play lasts about 10 seconds in NFL so they dont have to worry about conserving energy.
Still don't understand why soccer is more popular than rugby in my country. Just love rugby.
@agmundel done um both had harder hits from football players, but I do love both sports.
I am a varsity Football player in america and I rreally wish rugby was more popular in America
accually, some of them are pretty good.
That is what i call awsom.
Love rugby...
How can NZ afford to let so many of the players in that video go to the NE? Such strength in depth (and recruiting from the South Seas of course)
the reason that the northern southern hemishpere displays more running rugby is because of the poor defence
i reckon most people think rugby is about big fat guys pummelling eachother,
This video totally shows the opposite. it shows the speed and skill in rugby.
What happened to Ryan King??
It's annoying hearing people say that rugby is better than American football or vise versa. Each is great in its own way. I play American football, but I would never play rugby. Love rugby I play in the front row.
SO TRUE about the rucks!
@WhodiKalecgos if you wanna see better then type in where you gonna run to- jasion robinson tribute
how do they run so fast?
Hit the nail right on the head
@AndyMack95 football came from rugby and soccer.
football got scrimmage from scrum/scrummage
wait im confused here. how come theres only a couple guys who wear like helmets or whatever? and do you have to slide into the goal place in order to score? or can you just run in there? sorry guys, i dont know much about rugby ahaha but im gonna play in college though :)
Is it just me or are all of these from the same match?
@Kmagnus80 Ever heard of cricket? Now that requires tactical genius!
Fantastic
they are sooo frickin fast
@agmundel and im pretty sure any runningback can own in rugby. but i hardly doubt a rugby player can adjust to football
I love how people think the sport they play is better than another sport.
About half of that was from one game. :o
umm generally, that doesnt mean all of them. and have u evr seen a wide receiver knock over any line man while running? no caz they get pummeled into the ground.
king would have replaced umaga IF HE HAD STAYED IN NEW ZEALAND
@20327070 LOOOOLLL aite man thanks a lot! ahahhaa loved your explanation. so like if you ran in without touching the ball on the ground, they would like still tackle you and stuff?
