I’m having a bit of an 80s/90s Games Workshop and Fighting Fantasy kick at the moment, so will have to try and buy this game. I’d completely forgotten it existed, but used to have lots of fun playing it as a kid. And seeing that board again after 30+ years is really nostalgic!
I get a special enjoyment from watching videos about these games I'm unfamiliar with. It's like a (very important) history lesson. Soon enough Battlin' HQ will become a full-on museum. And also, you're creeping ever closer to 4k subs!
There's a channel for retro computers called RMC the cave and Neil is working on an exhibition centre now. This is something I'd love to do but for tabletop gaming
A wonderful game, I still have it and play it every 5 years or so. It plays fast and the rules are great. No real need for house-rules, but I remember that singleplayer rules can be found on boardgame geek. My next painting project should be the minis. Sadly, I never painted them.
@@TheBattlinBarrowGaming Back in the day German publisher Klee Spiele translated and released quite a lot of GW's 80's games in Germany. They did a German version of Dungeon Quest, too. Interestingly, Advanced Heroquest was released under Klee Spiele with a totally different name and since regular Heroquest was released in Germany as well, but by Milton Bradley Games, the German Advanced Heroquest lacked all pages that allow you to use Heroquest's miniatures and furniture. I totally love all these old Games Workshop releases and own most of them. Believe it or not, but they get played plenty of times a year despite GW's constant new and modern releases.
I love these games too and will willingly play them over modern gw games which I find a bit cold and clinical. Can't really explain it but new gw games just feel soulless to me, made by commity rather than a Labour of love. Have you played a game called warrior Knight from gw in that era?
It's a long time since I've played this. I think I agree with MarcoOmnigamer (youtube) who said it would be better if combat were speeded up, but that's a matter of opinion. Did enjoy it back in the day and definitely would play it again. My copy got damp sadly.

I had this when it came out in 1986. I loved it. Wish I still had it!
I was into Fighting Fantasy back then but missed out on this so was really pleased to own it now
What an awesome looking boardgame! I never had this but I loved my Fighting Fantasy books back in the day!
never knew there was a board game for the book and I was around when the book was released !
I only found out about it a few years back and like you this totally passed me by in the 80s
Another great video 👍 I’ve been looking for this game for a while now definitely need to add it to the collection. I think the board looks great!
Cheers man, yeah that board is stunning. Really great artwork.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll have a look on bgg for them
Great video, they don't make games the way they used to anymore !
I wish they did!
I will have to try and get a copy at some point Great video Kev
Glad you liked it, yeah try to source a copy it's great fun.
I recently bought the German version of that game in near mint condition. An excellent and fun experience to play through.
Nice! Yes sometimes you can get a bargain from foreign markets. And the game components don't have many words on them which helps

@@TheBattlinBarrowGaming I have heard of Warrior Knights but never played it. IIRC Fantasy Flight Games had re-released it a few years back.
the character pieces were 6 of the grey unpainted pieces from Talisman
Thanks for the info. That may make tracking down replacements easier.
I still have this book in my loft.
No idea what condition it is in.

Oh no that sucks (the game getting damp)
I still have two sets. One in near mint, the other is well played.
Nice, so lucky!

Not a fan of the sidekick.
That makes two of us, he's really annoying
