Agreed. I watched a lot of videos before finding this one. Glad to see it can hold a 12 pack almost, have room for an ice pack and sandwich up top. Bought mine for riding the trails on my can am.

I have the Pelican 20 qt, I love it but that thing is heavy as hell and a little tall. I wasn’t sure about the 14 but thanks to your review I finally decided to go with the 14

Great review! As a UPS driver, I need a cooler that can handle a 10-12 hour day with temps in the back of the truck into the 130's, with frequent opening/closing. Looks like it will do much better than run-of-the-mill coolers, but not as good as the super pricey ones. Seems to be a good choice, thanks for the review!

Great review. Mine did not come with rubbery feet(non skid) and I did see the holes for tie down points, but they weren't mentioned(unless I missed it).. Like others have echoed, this is probably the best cooler review I’ve ever seen. I found myself wondering one thing, but it’s a really obscure test…since I might be putting a phone and battery bank in the dry compartment, I was curious what temperature that compartment reaches out in the sun. This is a great review! The only thing you might have missed is to see if it leaks water from inside out once the ice melts! in case the cooler were to flip in ur cab! But great review, going to have to pick one of these up for myself

Pelican is not doing themselves any favors by suggesting the capacity is six cans. Also, I went with the white as well.

Awesome video! About how many lbs of ice did you use in the can test? Typical bags of ice you get in the store are 7 and 10 lbs! Have you did a Pelican Ice vs ice test?

I’m debating between this one and the 8 Qt for work. I think the 14 would allow me to put my insulated water bottle in there too. I just worry that it’s too big to take to work but doesn’t look like it in the video.

One Way unless you are very skinny, your going to squash the top for the dry box. This model is not made to support weight. Its made to keep your stuff dry in the lid. Nice cooler for 1 or 1 1/2 days of personal cooling knowing that it will last longer than soft coolers which fail at the zipper. I think the only real competitor is the Grizzly 15 Quart which has better insulation (uniform 2 inches just like larger rotomolded coolers) but weighs 12 pounds instead of the Pelican's 8 1/2 pounds. If you use it every day, keep the cooler in your fridge to keep it prechilled or always sacrifice an large ice pack at night to keep it chilled.

Most smaller coolers are made elsewhere just due to production costs. Do you guys think that this cooler is too large for daily use for a non-construction type laborer...I work in hosptial rehab. I often stuff leftovers in my bag however they are often glass and a hard cooler will offer ultimate protection. This cooler checks off every single thing Im looking for in a new lunch container - except that its pretty large for what I may need it for. Im an average size guy 5'9 170. If it fell overboard does it float? And if so, will the dry box completely fill with water because of the leak at the latch? Not a "dry box" if it leaks even a small amount!

Great review! As a UPS driver, I need a cooler that can handle a 10-12 hour day with temps in the back of the truck into the 130's, with frequent opening/closing. Looks like it will do much better than run-of-the-mill coolers, but not as good as the super pricey ones. Seems to be a good choice, thanks for the review!

Great review. Mine did not come with rubbery feet(non skid) and I did see the holes for tie down points, but they weren't mentioned(unless I missed it)..

Like others have echoed, this is probably the best cooler review I’ve ever seen. I found myself wondering one thing, but it’s a really obscure test…since I might be putting a phone and battery bank in the dry compartment, I was curious what temperature that compartment reaches out in the sun. Thanks for all the info!
David Kracalik I have not tested that but if you get the white one, it is not going to absorb heat on the lid and I'll net would be just a few degrees above ambient

This is a great review! The only thing you might have missed is to see if it leaks water from inside out once the ice melts! in case the cooler were to flip in ur cab! But great review, going to have to pick one of these up for myself
Ariel Castaneda I'm not sure I didn't test it. It may leak a little because the gasket has a tiny gap so it doesn't lock shut or need a pressure release to open.

Great review, very entertaining. I didn't see whether it had a drain plug. Also the weight would be helpful. I have an rtic right now and it's just too HEAVY.

@@scottnra You're absolutely right Scott. I just got mine today thanks to your review. It's really cool! The biggest thing I took from your review is the can capacity. That was a big selling point. Pelican is not doing themselves any favors by suggesting the capacity is six cans. Also, I went with the white as well.

Awesome video! About how many lbs of ice did you use in the can test? Typical bags of ice you get in the store are 7 and 10 lbs! Have you did a Pelican Ice vs ice test?
Gregory Johnson I just filled it up. Probably less than 6# I have not done a pelican ice vs ice test but there would be more # of ice in a cooler than the Pelican Ice packs so it wouldn't be fair anyway. The Pelican ice are great for one or two day stuff.

Can you sit on the cooler as a bench on the job site? Will the dry space lid break?
adventure 845 The Lid on this one is not a structural part. (It will probably break) If you are going to sit on it, get the 20qt without the dry box. It's as tough as the rest of the Pelican coolers top to bottom!

Is it sturdy enough to sit on? Would like to use it with my paddle board.
kracken5 Choose the 20wt for that. 1. It's too short for sitting. 2. The dry box lid makes it not able to take a lot of weight. you could set things on top of it but not a person.

I’m debating between this one and the 8 Qt for work. I think the 14 would allow me to put my insulated water bottle in there too. I just worry that it’s too big to take to work but doesn’t look like it in the video.

One Way unless you are very skinny, your going to squash the top for the dry box. This model is not made to support weight. Its made to keep your stuff dry in the lid. You can kinda see that in the video

Nice cooler for 1 or 1 1/2 days of personal cooling knowing that it will last longer than soft coolers which fail at the zipper. I think the only real competitor is the Grizzly 15 Quart which has better insulation (uniform 2 inches just like larger rotomolded coolers) but weighs 12 pounds instead of the Pelican's 8 1/2 pounds. If you use it every day, keep the cooler in your fridge to keep it prechilled or always sacrifice an large ice pack at night to keep it chilled.
badkid73 yeah this thing is pretty great. I have a grizzly 60 that doesn't hold a candle to my Pelican 80 for keeping ice!

Peter Caires Good point. Not really. The top with it's lid is not going to support any weight. THat's a trade off for that little dry box. If you need that, get the 20qt!

@bluelude2001 Most of Pelican coolers are Made in the USA. This one is not but it is made to the standard you've come to expect from Pelican. Most smaller coolers are made elsewhere just due to production costs. "Made in the USA" is always great, but if nobody will buy it because of the price, and the American company can't stay in business, that kind of defeats the purpose.

Dry box lid probably wouldn't support sitting on it as a stool is my only thought
@jc4jax I get that question all the time and no it won't. That is not what it is there for. We use this cooler all the time and love it! It's been sat on a time or two by people who didn't know. While it didn't break, I wouldn't recommend it.

Do you guys think that this cooler is too large for daily use for a non-construction type laborer...I work in hosptial rehab. I often stuff leftovers in my bag however they are often glass and a hard cooler will offer ultimate protection. This cooler checks off every single thing Im looking for in a new lunch container - except that its pretty large for what I may need it for. Im an average size guy 5'9 170. The cooler awesome however...

What’s your overall thought on the 14? Debating on buying it
@@ghilliemanreviews I have to say it’s the one I use the most because it’s so versatile and easy to use on the go. The dry box helps me put my cel, car keys and wallet in it for those days it’s just shorts and sandals….I love both but I have to say the 14qt is the one to get. I also have the 30qt so it kinda makes the 20qt obsolete so if I could get them all over again, it’d be the 14 & 30qt only for me…cheers!

If it fell overboard does it float? And if so, will the dry box completely fill with water because of the leak at the latch? Not a "dry box" if it leaks even a small amount!
amham48 Well it's not a submarine. It's supposed to keep your stuff dry under conditions normal people would use a cooler.
