    One thing the RV companies never learned -- they should always use a small person to do the introductions. That guy took up the double seat settee. His head hits the TV if he moves a bit to the window. He would not open the table because it is impossible for him to do so.

    • @GinaStath
      @GinaStath 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Good thinking. I also noticed him taking up both seats and wondered why he didn't open the table for us to have a look at since he showed us everything else.

      MetaView7 ... you couldn't be more wrong. Generally Speaking, those of us that have those trucks are comfortable in ourselves (we are not compensating for a loss). We are tall. 90% of us are over 6'5"s. We are still active in 1 sport at least. Some times we're allowed to get the truck we want for work we take it home and spend no more than $ _5k. The owner puts his license plate on the truck, the owner puts the name of his company; a 3x3 magnet (I'll leave that on forever, slowly paint the front doors of my work truck into the logo.

      americans must demand for European maker Adria to start selling in usa, and while you re at out give a shout out to knaus, i think they have been the creators of many ideas that spread out to campervans makers, and their interiors are stunning, particulary Adria.
      (if you search adria in google images you ll the region lol, not the motorhome maker)

    Hello Joe and Kait,
    I enjoy your You-Tube videos, very educational and informative with personality.
    I am a retired Sheriff Detective that finally can afford to buy an RV and have, though the goal right now is just short trips as the wife is still working.
    After over a year of researching and watching hundreds of you-tube videos, like yours, I recently purchased an Aktiv 2.0. My wife and I have yet to use it as a couple. For medical reasons we have to sleep separate, so I purchased the 2nd bed kit.
    And therein lies the question; out of all of your videos I have yet to see one about the second sleeping dinette area with the Hymer portable sleeping kit. I find the kit a large nuisance to store, as part of the kit has two large boards with foam pads. Hymer did not come up with a way to store the kit while traveling, which is why I like the Travado-G, because the second sleeping area mostly all you have to do to assemble it, is just fold and slide the dinette area. I wish Hymer would engineer something as simple.
    So please tell me your thoughts of the Hymer second sleeping dinette area kit; have you used it, is it comfortable, how do you stow it for travel???
    BTW, just out of curiosity, why did Kait cut her beautiful hair off? She still is beautiful but I loved her long black hair :( ,
    and btw My Condolences about Leo, when I lost my dog after 12 years it was surprising how hard it hit me!
    Thanks so much for all your videos.
    Steve

      lol - Kait loves her conga lines ;) we realize we're going to have to re-learn how to live in a RV if we go to something like this. We had to do that same thing going from our house to the current RV...like only one person can work in the kitchen at a time, etc.

      @Weretherussos  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for the birthday wishes! The Hymer is small but we really liked the front "living room" area. We found the more time we spend in the van, the more comfortable we felt that this might be something we could full time in!

    •  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      For me, something with a one-piece mattress would seem a safer full-time choice. I liked the Leisure Wonder W24MB you visited and the similar (and also Canadian) Pleasure-Way Plateau XLMB. Both have Murphy beds on top of the couch instead of attempting to have distinct sleeping and living areas or combining bed and couch in various ways. We spend a third of our lives sleeping; it better be comfortable and durable…

    Happy Birthday!! Nice review, I just wish Hymer would introduce a good size black tank than the 4.6 Gal cassette. It's very small and would need emptying frequently, not practical for the full-timers. Try pulling that cassette through the campgrounds, it's called "The Walk of Shame".

    Happy Birthday! This is like the Erwin Hymer you reviewed in January - just the size I (thought I) wanted before settling on a 24 foot Class C. If you're okay with the Ram Promaster 2500, this certainly would be a sweet one to own. For the 3 of us (with our Siberian Husky) it would be perfect for short weekend getaways.

    • @Weretherussos
      @Weretherussos  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They've made some changes/updates since we saw it in January but pretty much the same coach. We were told the first 50 were being built on the 3500 chassis which, if we got this, we would want for the added capacity. Otherwise we have the same engine in our Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee before it and really like it.

      Hi Joe and Kait! As much as I like this van I'm disappointed that there's no functionality on one side of the bench. The extension on the European style slides in and out of the main frame. This allows you to have more room to sit and entertain. I was also wondering if there's an option to have an outside shower. One more thing I notice, they don't make it easy to dispose the gray water. You literally have to lie down on the ground to free the hose. I wish they had a better design on that part. But out of all the vans, I really like this one the most.

  • @sok8888
    @sok8888 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hymer bought RoadTrek last year. The EcoTrek was developed by RoadTrek. The advantage of this is the light weight Lithium Ion batteries which charges up fast from the engine. Lithium batter also has an advantage of usability up to 80% of its capacity instead of the 50% for wet cell battery. Also, it is forgiving when you partially charge the battery and use it (Wet cell battery tends to sulphurize when it is not at 100% ). But this setup is expensive. If you go with this system, go all the way for the 800AH or 1600AH system and get rid of propane system. Go all electric.

    • @Weretherussos
      @Weretherussos  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If we get a Hymer, we are definitely getting EcoTrek but I don't know if the current model is long enough for the 800 ah bank...definitely not big enough for 1600.

    • @sok8888
      @sok8888 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you staying with propane, then don't bother with EcoTrek. Cheaper to go the traditional route of golfcart batteries and 3rd party alternator with isolator to charge the batteries. Also, on ALL Class B, watch out for the under carriage clearance. Sometimes you get 6 to 8 inches only when a generator is installed.... ouch when a rock lies in the path. Also, a lot of Class B has very little insulation. I think RoadTrek use thermal paint for insulation (R-2 value?). If you need good insulated class B, the Leisure Travel Van has extremely good insulation (Canadian knows about winter) but they stopped making class B, sadly.

    • @Weretherussos
      @Weretherussos  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well with EcoTrek we can run the AC and that's the selling point for us. The only thing we're going to use propane for is the cooking stove (they don't offer a non-gas option) which is fine with us. The heater can run on propane, electric or both...so we'd just run it on electric.

    • @sok8888
      @sok8888 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you running the AC on EcoTrek, you'll need at least 800AH. And be aware their auto-recharge system that automatically start the van at low battery level has a timer set for 30 minutes before shutting down. It can do that 5 times only per day. I think it has to do with the pollution acts. You also need to consider the issue of engine high idle wear and tear when charging the batteries during boondocking (when car is not moving while running engine, the lubricant oil does not flow properly and you get high wear and tear, so people use high idle to force the oil flow).

    • @sok8888
      @sok8888 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, I forgot. If you use Lithium Batteries, you MUST get solar panel to keep them trickle charged and warm at all time. Cold and Heat kills lithium battery (see Technomadia youtube). The EcoTrek system automatically keeps it warm even when you shut off house battery main switch, so you need solar panels to keep it topped up. In general, you need 100W panel for every 100AH.... hahahaha, I know, I know.....

    Hey Joe, I have a question about the Voltstart automatically starting the engine when the battery gets low - is there a failsafe on that to keep it from autostarting if you have the hood up with your hands working on the engine? just wondering because that concerns me. Also I remember in one video the battery on your van was drained and you had to get a jump - what happened there? Thanks. Really appreciate more detail as the Aktiv is at the top of my list.

    Nice walk through video. The Hymer looks like a great Class B and understand the appeal. I was a bit surprised to see you are planning to downsize to a Class B given you are full timers with Leo, a large dog. My wife and I are planning to full time and have explored all options in rigs, including a Class B, but dismissed them because we have 2- large dogs, but in looking at class B's in person I cannot imagine even if we had one dog he/she would be comfortable and can imagine we would all be competing for space. Just curious what plans you two have to accommodate Leo.

  • @Troy_Campbell
    @Troy_Campbell 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very nice RV, some great use of space and innovative ideas. The EcoTrek system sounds awesome, I would probably hold out for 2.0 with the 800AH system to keep our dogs cool.
    Ironically, we are looking to up size to a unit like you currently have. We have a 24ft Sprinter based RV which works well for one week vacations but as we move to full time we believe it to be too small. The mobility and gas mileage are great but the space is too small for me, the wife and our two dogs, only 20 pounds of dogs a lot less than Leo.

    I'll definitely opt for the eco-trek system when I purchase my class b in the future. 800 ah of lithium capacity is massive and they even offer a 1600 ah module on Roadtrek Sprinter based models, which is what I'm leaning towards. The 1600 ah is a $9000 upgrade, but I hope prices will fall before I'm ready to buy, as lithium should become the norm.
    Happy belated bday Kait!

    • @Weretherussos

    The Aktive 2.0 is on our short list, but there are three things I'm struggling with; two are inconveniences and one might be a deal killer. The inconveniences are the TV mount: it's only truly visible from the cab seats. Yes, I know, it can swivel around to be viewed from the bed, but not the entire bed, and it's a pretty small TV to be viewed at that distance. I understand there is also RJ45 and HDMI jacks in the kitchen, which I presume can be used to place the TV somewhere on the kitchen counter top (or even, I wonder if a separate TV mount can be placed on the bulkhead forward of the passenger side bed?). Also, I'm not a fan of no convection microwave. I'm a baker, and would like the option of baking and microwaving. Then we come to the potential deal killer: the cassette toilet. I've watched the Russo's detailed discussions of the cassette toilet, and how it IS a useable option, but I can't help but wonder if we're going to end up hating all the trips to a bathroom to empty this thing every day or two?

    Im very impressed with the technology of modern day Roadtreks! The 2017 190 Popular is only 20ft, but is a mobil power plant! Hymer added Roadtreks to their team of RV Co's back in May (I think)! The Roadtrek ETrek is suppose to be 100% electric, but I've been hearing some complaints about them! Great video guys...keep 'em coming please 👌👏🏻😎

      We were very impressed as well with the technology of the Roadtreks/Hymer! According to the people from Hymer, they seem to have addressed the early issues with the EcoTrek system and we really like the fact that we could run the AC off the batteries.

      Yes! And with Lithium Ion Batts, you can cycle them down a hundred times a year, and they're still rated to last you a good 20yrs...VERY cost effective when compared to AGM Batts! (Which lasts maybe 6yrs TOPS)

    I like the Hymer Aktiv's floor plan the best compared to all the other Class B's! They used excellent materials too. Now if they could just UP their craftsmanship a bit and better QA check behind the installers, they could be the best in time.

    Happy Birthday! ;-)
    And wow, great video - I really love Hymers. I do not know the US market, but in Europe you can't get anything better. They are too costly for us, but they are for sure the best ones ever ... ;-)
    That EcoTrek technology is key for longest time off gridding in such a RV. You can use the Lithium Batteries much better than normal batteries, means you can use them down to 20% of their capacity or so, whiles you should not use other batteries below 50% of their nominal volume (even deep cyclers go if you would do it too often ... at least they did that in our case). In Europe you could get also a fuel cell (manufacturer SFC, brand name EFOY) instead of recharging your batteries by running your engine, no idea whether it is also available in the US. A fuel cell would be much more silent and much more ecofriendly, but that technology would definitely add you some extra costs for purchasing as well as for running the system.
    And well, what he didn't say concerning the removable toilet tank: simply get you a second tank and store it somewhere, in case You want to double your time out ... ;-)

    • @Weretherussos
      @Weretherussos  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the birthday wishes!!!
      No fuel cells in the States yet but hopefully one day! We've thought about a second tank but they also sell larger tanks with wheels that go from 15 gallons to 55 gallons and you simply empty the cassette into those until their full.

    • @bangalorebobbel
      @bangalorebobbel 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Ah yes that's also a good option, giving you even more spare volume ;-)
      Which I forgot totally, since I am one of these very, very lazy guys - means I went for a second original tank, so it takes me only a couple of seconds to exchange in case ... ;-)
      These cassettes are totally convenient compared to an installed black water tank - you never need to worry about a near by dump station but can empty these tanks simply in any public toilet, or in your friend's toilet etc.
      Btw: really fine to watch You guys checking out all these nice little rigs, thanks for these vids ... remembers me the time when we went to find out what could become our RV. I guess we have seen almost a hundred of models or so before we finally made our decision ;-)))

      Well the first 50 they ship are on the 3500 chassis and then the rest will be built on the 2500. Otherwise that's the only chassis/option the offer it on.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATI. WERE BOTH OCTOBER PEOPLE MINE WAS THE 7TH. I DON'T COUNT MINE ANYMORE NEXT MILESTONE BIRTHDAY WILL BE 60TH BUT THAT'S A FEW YEAR'S AWAY. I WISH THAT LITHIUM TECHNOLOGY WITH THE MOTOR STARTING WHEN THE BATTERY GETS LOW AND THEN TURNING OFF WHEN CHARGED WAS IN SOME CLASS C COACHES. I KNOW I COULDN'T DO CLASS B OR TRUCK CAMPER. I'M STILL WRESTLING WITH CLASS A OR CLASS C MYSELF.

    • @Weretherussos
      @Weretherussos  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you!!! Although the lithium isn't offered in Class C's you can buy the batteries as part of a solar unit...but that is pretty pricey.

      I KNOW THAT I'VE BEEN PRICING LITHIUM BATTERIES DEPENDING ON HOW MANY WATT HOURS YOU NEED LIKE GOING WITH THE WYNNS EVERYTHING THEY BUY IS TOP OF THE LINE ENOUGH SOLAR PANELS AND LITHIUM TO RUN AN AIR CONDITIONER IS AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF $5K. They look pretty small and I think you may miss some room if you get one of those. Have you had the chance to see a chalet truck camper? Good luck, looks like a fun show to be at. Laurie in Fl.

    • @Weretherussos
      @Weretherussos  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Although we give up room on the inside, we'll be glad to have a much smaller footprint when we go places. This would be much easier to park, etc than our 29' class A - plus we don't have to worry about the height, etc. They didn't have any Chalet truck campers at the show, but we did look at a Lance truck camper that was really nice.

    Video starts by saying that you're checking out the carrying capacity. Care to share? Inquiring minds want to know. ;-) A quick search was inconclusive, but seems like the ProMaster 3500 has GVWR 9,350 lbs. So what's OCCC on these with weight of optional equipment taken into account?

    • @Weretherussos
      @Weretherussos  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      DOH! Completely forgot to add in the picture I took of the tag - the CCC is 1625 without fresh water (30 gal). That would leave us with about 1000 lbs of usable capacity.
