I saw this overgrown lawn and knocked on the door to see if I could take care of it for the homeowner. Nobody answered, so I spoke with the next door neighbor to see what was up. He told me the homeowner died a few months ago and the family emptied the house and forgot about the lawn. The neighbors have been trying to keep up with it but it has become too much.

Same here... and not just the family. They got mom's keys at hospice and came in after she passed and stole thousands in jewelry.
@@clearjet that's terrible 😔 our experience with Hospice was wonderful. Except for the part of losing my sister 💔 The Hospice team we had did the best they could.
I keep wondering with these homes and it being a sellers market why its sitting. Anyway one persones ransacking is anothers clearing out the belongings.
I used to get mad at waking up to the sounds of lawn work, now I fall asleep to it 😅

No wonder she couldn’t keep up with her yard when she was alive. That’s a huge corner lot. Great job. The neighbours will be so happy.
Wonder if he'll do complete detailed work again like he used to. Where he trims trees, hedges, brush, bags and hauls off all of the clippings and yard debris. Making the property look amazing, those were the most satisfying to watch.
I have noticed a difference between the "Clean up an abandoned property for the neighborhood so the sidewalks and such are actually accessible and the yard doesn't attract pests." and the "Fix the yard for people who are in a hard spot even though they still live there."
And to me, that difference in methods is fine.

It's so frustrating to see such nice little houses sitting empty like this one. There are so many people looking for affordable homes. This would even make a good rental. You did a great job bringing it back to life, Spencer. I hope the family who owns it will do something with it other than letting it sit there unoccupied.
My guess is she died without a Will, probably still had dead or ex husband on the deed & now the courts delay access to the house while they look for all eligible heirs to split this inheritance. Sad the house will decay.
A reverse mortgage is another possibility, then the family has no equity in the house and property, so why bother keeping maintained. Besides in this scenario, maintenance is the responsibility of the bank that owns it now; though, a lot of banks tend to let the house rot till they can offload it.

@@KlaaismHate those damm reverse mortgage people. My mom passed in October 2023. By the time we sold tge house she owed 1.23. Downright roberry when they gave her only 365,000. Just horrible...
NO MORE RENTALS people want to actually live in their house. Not someone else's.
Neighbors that complain should use some of that energy to organize a community clean up party.

@@camtono743trimmings can decay and become fertilizer for the grass beneath, it's not like he left a harmful substance. Besides, the yard is still in a lot better state than how he found it and nobody else was stepping up and he did for free.

You know what I appreciate the most about your videos is that this is all hard work on your part. You show how you get down and dirty doing all of this and I think it is good for people to remember what physical labor looks like for the individuals that are doing it. I know you do all this for free, but the work that you do is valuable and I'm glad that you have such a large following to support you in doing it in a way that benefits everyone.

It's not just 3 weeks and shame on her family. Looks like they could have helped her BEFORE she passed because that edging looked like it hadn't been done in years! It's probably why the water from the neighbor didn't drain down.

There's a news story falled "Last Disrespects" about a dead man's "friends" coming and ransacking his house.
Ended up with deputy probate judge in jail on gun charges (that she'd taken from the house), probate judge losing his position at next election, sheriff in jail (one thread led to another), and yet the worst of the ransacking has not been returned.

What a transformation, Spencer! Once again, I am gobsmacked at the size of the properties in your area (& much of the rest of the country).
We are in Southern California. Lots are tiny, due to high cost of land/housing. Our neighborhood was built in the 60's, so a bit more space than newer lots (unless one goes to the really upscale neighborhoods, which we are not😂).
Also, due to prolonged drought, many of us choose to change to xeriscaped yards, drought tolerant, no grass. We are blessed to have beautiful plants in our yard, with "empty" spaces & small boulders. I really like it😊. Many neighbors have all kinds of variations on this. Many flowering plants, including cacti with gorgeous blooms.

I used to landscape lawns as a teenager, and this brings me back to the sheer satisfaction of making a lawn look so sharp and clean. Edging and blowing really make a big difference when most people just mow and call it done.
Just edging made a remarkable difference and then mowing just topped it off.

I've helped my parents cut their grass but I always saved the trimming for the end after I mowed. His whole method is like he's a real professional mower better than most of the people who work at landscaping companies.

Awesome job as usual, Specer. Someone needs to let that neighbor know they are overwatering their lawn. That much runoff means the lawn is either saturated or the ground is too compacted to absorb the water. If that's the case, they need to rent an articulated plug aerator and make some gaps for that water to sink into.
I'd guess they are overwatering. You can see from the moisture in that overgrowth along the curbs that it stays wet most of the time. Probably chemical runoff too, feeding the curb turf.
Yup, that neighbor needs have the system adjusted. I would not want to pay for all that wasted water.

Amazing job again Spencer! Thank you for doing this work for FREE and helping people out. It definitely makes the neighbors a lot happier on abandoned houses like this! David seems like a really good guy, really looks out for his neighborhood. I especially loved "If anyone gives you trouble, you tell them to come talk to David!" haha. That yard wasn't extremely overgrown, but it was getting really tall! Amazing before and after photos. Not a fan of foreign owned tools, I'd rather buy Made in America! You had a couple really nice grass carpet pulls, that was really satisfying. Overall, great job as always, thank you very much, and god bless you sir.
Those "Made In" labels are just manufacturer ideas for marketing. The country they choose is what they think will sell more of what their perceived products identity is. when in all actuality, maybe only a finger tip from that country, among the dozens of countries involved, got to touch the equipment during manufacturing. Not really worth stressing over "Made In..." labels no matter what the Country that is named.
@@Me3stR I bought Milwaukee tools because they are manufactured in the USA and they employ Americans. They don't make up labels, that is insane. It is strictly regulated by the government. I understand that a lot of items can be manufactured in a country but the money goes to another.

These are my favorites! Invisible curbs and sidewalks, sod carpets, and - most of all - the shovel work you do that makes it possible. I realize those big fancy tools that clear it all in one fell swoop would probably make it easier, but my money is on you, Spencer. I haven’t seen such cool shovel skills since Cool Hand Luke!

Oh man the neighborhood rumor mills are always terrible. The day both of my parents die, I really am concerned with how I'm going to deal with their house and massive amount of stuff. I have my own health problems that make life difficult.
Yes they are. My mom had a nosey neighbor who said a bunch of things like this David person said. Without knowing the whole story. We live a distance from my mom's house and after she passed, we (the family) all met at her house and took what our Mom instructed us to do. If someone called what we did "ransacking" I'd have a serious issue with them. My mom had an executor who got more than his fair share of the estate. So if he let the yard go to hell, that would have been on him, not the whole family. I'm not going to drive 500 miles to mow a lawn for my deceased mom. I did it enough when she was alive. I did more than my fair share to help my parents as they aged. I can look at myself in the mirror and be proud. Don't worry about the neighbors. You just do what you need to do.
