I love your work ethic and how you can see it's being passed on to your children. My five-year-old has offered to unload the dishwasher for me. She's done it multiple times herself because she knows it needs done. Raising kids who love being useful is one of the best things we can do for them.
I agree completely with having the kids do actually helpful chores. My girls completely take care of the egg layers and meat birds, the dog, and the cats. That cuts my morning chores to the cow, and breakfast. I taught my oldest to cook early on so she can make amazing quick breads, spaghetti, etc and when I’m pressed for time she comes to my rescue. I have been slacking on training my middle because the older one has been my helper for so long (3-4 years between each of my kids) and I really need to get on it. I did teach her the proper way to clean a bathroom and that has been aaaammmaaazzing.
Some ideas: preparation for when they are adults, learning responsibility which will definitely help with their future work place, we are a family - we help each other, mommy needs help (usually when they are younger they love to help mommy). The best thing that helped me with chores is thinking about them as a TOOL to help build up the character of my kids, to help them grow up and become responsible adults. (a tool for them and not necessarily for me and my desires ☺️) Besides learning a certain skill (doing the laundry for ex) they learn obedience, doing things well, working in a team (maybe teamed up with you or a sibling), etc. So our focus is on character too…. Oops…. Sorry for the long reply. Hope it help. ☺️

My husband also has a fast metabolism.
When you were training your kids to do chores, what was the explanation that you told them.

Well there is certainly lots to do on our homestead, but I do steal away every now and again to read my book in front of the fire.
