his feud with Taker in 2007 was one of the first feuds that i watched when i first got into wrestling as a kid and i remember crying so hard and wanting to slap the shit out of the tv whenever he beat Taker in a match.
I loved the Cena vs Edge rivalry. To me it was Cena’s best rivalry because the audience was always into it whether they would cheer Cena or boo Edge. No matter the matches, they were able to perform abd the audience loved it. I still wish Cena and Edge had a one on one matchup in Wrestlemania 25 but no Big Show had to be a part of it.
Cena's rivalry with Edge will forever be by far his best rivalry imo, either his rivalry with Edge or his rivalry with Punk, I legit hated Edge as a kid lol by far the heel I hated the most and now that I'm older that hate has turned into love and appreciation of just how truly great he was

Edge was the heel who defined Cena, that was when he truly undeniably was the top guy, and they both brought the best out of each other. I don't feel like we've had a rivalry like that in wrestling in quite some time. We just haven't had a heel and babyface who were so perfectly diametrically opposed, where one was the perfect, natural foil for the other.

Edge was actually the first heel that I liked as a child. He somehow reminded me of my older brother. Not that my brother was a sleazebag or a psycho or anything like that. Their faces just looked so similar to me.
Crazy to me that Edge only wanted to be a heel because I think his babyface run in the early 2000s is extremely underrated. Like I seriously thought it was World title worthy. He had my favorite version of his theme, had great midcard title runs, and the fanbase was 100% behind him. I’m glad he was able to realize his full potential with his heel run but that potential face run is my biggest wrestling what if.
And admittedly, he was in way better shape than the era where he'd end up winning the world title a few years later. I thought they should have pulled the trigger back then, too. He would have looked awesome in that era with his attire and undisputed wwe title design. Loved that rob zombie theme also.

Nowadays it is really hard to be a heel. Not only because almost everyone aknowledge their roles and what they do, it's also because they barely bring any heat to the crowd. Only a few can do that, but either because some of them are veterans or because they critisize their lack of talent and work ethics. It just feels that it's not about being faces or heels anymore.
Love this so much edge and John Era was prime for me! Love the show guys Kurt keeping that "Ankle lock" 🔥 I did that move along with the "Spear" so much
That is a very good point that Kurt makes about improvising. Nobody does this anymore. Nobody calls spots on the fly anymore. Everything is overly choreographed which is why wrestling is so hard to watch these days. I miss when wrestling was about grown men getting into a fight and not little kids doing dance routines.
07-08 was edge's best years. The Cash in on undertaker, interrupting the Undertaker/Batista match, winning the Armageddon triple threat, Undertaker Wrestlemania match, Hell in a Cell Summerslam. He was the ultimate Opportunists. Great heel on Smackdown, always one step ahead.

What I really love about the Cena vs Edge rivalry is that they were next up and coming faces of the WWE after Kurt and Brock left the company. We can't forget Randy Orton vs John Cena rivalry too because they came from OVW and we can't forget Brock use to be at OVW. The Edge vs Undertaker I would say similar to Brock vs Undertaker also because Taker loved working with up and coming talent in the WWE. Let's talk about Batista, now he was that quote and quote " The Next Big Thing" but he up that age, I think Dave was like in his early or mid 30s when he was Heavyweight champion but he wasn't the face of company material. I love this podcast and I would love to hear more behind the curtain stories. Kurt is one of the best, and oh it's true and it's damn true!
Him and Cena did an excellent job. To redirect the image of Wwe when it was getting a little out of control after Benoit and Guerreo' s death aint easy. They still became Megastars when it was getting "PC". Good job.
So crazy now as a fan in 2022. As a younger man I hated edge, despised the gimmick the mannerisms, everything. Now 16 years after that legendary John Cena fued, I appreciate this man so much. His character work was top level. Looking back educated more now. He was and still is an amazing performer. I’m lucky I grew up watching this man do his thing.
I was there at New Years Revolution 2006 in Albany. This was before the Cena Sucks chants. We were the first crowd to boo him. The crowd was so heated when Cena won the elimination chamber, then Edge cashed in his money in the bank and won the title. I was a few feet away when Edge climbed up on the ring post and held up the title. It was epic!

Looking back, it's actually surprising to me that, despite having been the face of the company for a decade, John Cena has never actually faced any of his biggest rivals (edge, Orton, and Punk) in a one-on-one Wrestlemania match.

Edge becoming the Rated R superstar is one of the best villains ever more to the pint his charisma was just off the charts back in 2005 my really big WWE year and he blew me away he changed what a villain could be instead of everyone trying to be Triple H Edge went in a whole different way my favourite now then always he and John are the Rock and Stone Cold of that era and they need to have a last match and Mania but Edge needs to win just build it as the "It's not about the past for me John it's just I want to know I'm better than you that when the chips are down at mania I can beat you"
Edge was and still is so great. His aged in the ring and on the mic like fine wine.

Nowadays it is really hard to be a heel. Not only because almost everyone aknowledge their roles and what they do, it's also because they barely bring any heat to the crowd. Only a few can do that, but either because some of them are veterans or because they critisize their lack of talent and work ethics. It just feels that it's not about being faces or heels anymore.

That is a very good point that Kurt makes about improvising. Nobody does this anymore. Nobody calls spots on the fly anymore. Everything is overly choreographed which is why wrestling is so hard to watch these days. I miss when wrestling was about grown men getting into a fight and not little kids doing dance routines.

07-08 was edge's best years. The Cash in on undertaker, interrupting the Undertaker/Batista match, winning the Armageddon triple threat, Undertaker Wrestlemania match, Hell in a Cell Summerslam.
He was the ultimate Opportunists. Great heel on Smackdown, always one step ahead.

What I really love about the Cena vs Edge rivalry is that they were next up and coming faces of the WWE after Kurt and Brock left the company. We can't forget Randy Orton vs John Cena rivalry too because they came from OVW and we can't forget Brock use to be at OVW. The Edge vs Undertaker I would say similar to Brock vs Undertaker also because Taker loved working with up and coming talent in the WWE. Let's talk about Batista, now he was that quote and quote " The Next Big Thing" but he up that age, I think Dave was like in his early or mid 30s when he was Heavyweight champion but he wasn't the face of company material. I love this podcast and I would love to hear more behind the curtain stories. Kurt is one of the best, and oh it's true and it's damn true!

Him and Cena did an excellent job. To redirect the image of Wwe when it was getting a little out of control after Benoit and Guerreo' s death aint easy. They still became Megastars when it was getting "PC". Good job.
So crazy now as a fan in 2022. As a younger man I hated edge, despised the gimmick the mannerisms, everything. Now 16 years after that legendary John Cena fued, I appreciate this man so much. His character work was top level. Looking back educated more now. He was and still is an amazing performer. I’m lucky I grew up watching this man do his thing.
They should have had their one on one at WrestleMania 25
I was there at New Years Revolution 2006 in Albany. This was before the Cena Sucks chants. We were the first crowd to boo him. The crowd was so heated when Cena won the elimination chamber, then Edge cashed in his money in the bank and won the title. I was a few feet away when Edge climbed up on the ring post and held up the title. It was epic!

He had more mic skills than Shield Roman Reigns, but that's because anything that came out of his mouth got heat because of him being the boss and everyone relating to that. Looking back, it's actually surprising to me that, despite having been the face of the company for a decade, John Cena has never actually faced any of his biggest rivals (edge, Orton, and Punk) in a one-on-one Wrestlemania match.

Edge and undertaker brought me to wwe. I was a huge wcw fan but I seen the talent that wwe had and started watching raw one night. Then wcw failed and I stuck through with edge and taker. I credit them a lot because if it wasn’t for them, after wcw bombed I would’ve quit professional wrestling.
