A tiny taste of Heartland - a culture festival in the 💚 of Denmark | international icons up close

  • I had the pleasure of attending a culture festival in the middle of the island that I live on with one of my best friends, and I wanted to share a little of it with you. Denmark is sometimes portrayed in international media as a fairytale country, and sometimes these portrayals miss the mark; Denmark is a complex nation like all other nations. In the case of Heartland, however, it seems an accurate description. It is obviously only a tiny taste of all the things that went on there, seen from one selective perspective. I hope you'll enjoy it and get a little insight into the crème de la crème of Danish culture (which ended on a less refined note for this particular volunteer worker. It's all good).
    'Icons' (especially) featured: Sting, Margrethe Vestager, Thomas Vinterberg, Bret Easton Ellis & Robbie Williams.

    Nice to see a peaceful festival, very cool. I love Sting as I remember listening to the Police in the early 80's. Thanks for sharing.

    I am a teenager from the 80’s and I love Sting. My children learned to like “my music”. One day I walked passed the bathroom and heard my daughter singing “Roxanne”.

    Thank you so much for sharing. What an amazing experience that seemed to be. How incredible - Sting and Robbie Williams and all the talks and food and music. Heartland is now on my bucket list and I hope to get there sooner rather than later. :)

      My pleasure. So glad you enjoyed it ☺️ Yes, it was so lovely. I’m also eager to know who will show up next year; it’s typically a mix between names who will draw a crowd and then underground, artsy names. Lovely to hear it made it onto your bucket list 😍

    Thank you so much for sharing this experience! I left Denmark in 1953 as a 2 1/2 yr. old, with my parents,. They were on the adventure of their lives, beginning anew in the United States. I was in my early 20's before I realized the magnitude of that decision, and saw them both through new eyes...This wonderful video has brought tears to my eyes, as I reconnect to my homeland. Thank You!

    What an amazing festival. I don’t know if I have ever heard of a festival in Canada with so much variety and in such a special setting. And 10 hours of manual labour to pay for the ticket, I take my hat off to you. What fun to meet an old childhood friend. I loved your expression “not up my street”. Where I live, in BC, 🇨🇦, we say “up my alley”! Thanks for sharing the delights of this wonderful festival. I would love to attend.

    I was lucky enough to go to 2 Leonard Cohen concerts, here in Sydney Australia. He also was in his 70's and such a beautiful soul. I have never been camping or been to outdoors festivals. We have NO castles either. So nice to see Denmark through your eyes. Love the white swans, we have the black swans 🦢🦢.

    My first ever concert, and still probably one of the best, was the Police picnic, outside of Toronto, Canada, August 1981, more than 40 years ago! I still love outdoor concerts, I've got to put Heartland on my list....

    Wow I am so jealous! What a fabulous weekend (except that last work-a-day?) anyway, yes Sting brings back SOOOOO much nostalgia. I was jamming to his music during the last part of my high school years which was such a tumultuous time in my life.
    And so funny that Bret Ellis was there as I just finished reading “Shards” a month ago!
    Always love your uplifting videos…thanks again for sharing your life & thoughts 💛

    • @lindas5964
      @lindas5964 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danishmusings I used to read a lot but have found iPhones have sort of messed that up sadly…anyway “Shards” was the first book I’ve read in a while and didn’t know it was the same author as “American Psycho”. I didn’t like that movie (didn’t get it?) but shards really held my interest and was hard to put down! Note: there are some pretty gruesome parts. I’m not into gore at all but the book kept me riveted. Read if you dare! 😉

    Wonderful, Helle. How nice it must be to go to a concert venue and also get to hear and see guest speakers. This seems so civilized compared to some of the Chicago festivals and events. Although, I'll give Chicago some credit, they get it right on a few of them. Like you, most are just too crowded for me. Crazy nice that you got to meet a childhood friend so unexpectedly. Thanks so much for sharing some of your summer with us viewers. May you have more wonderful adventures to come this year.

    That looks a lovely festival; so very civilised! It was interesting to hear 'Another round' be mentioned, I watched it a year or so ago and thought it was excellent! I have been impressed by so many 'foreign language' (to those of us who only speak English!) films recently. I don't know if they have better writing/direction than the mainstream Hollywood offerings, or if it is that the subtitles force me to pay more attention and get more invested, but either way it has encouraged me to seek out more of them.
