"I'll take a handful of losses" - A thousand men sent to their death, the screams of the dying drown out the clashing of steel. The corpses of once noble warriors thrown away by their cruel liege pile around the survivors, soldiers blocked in by walls of their fallen brothers in arms. The walls of Dun Ailenne run red with the needlessly spilled blood of the sons of Cornwall.

The journal of King Connor: Despite my unfortunate death, I have found that after being escorted to hell, I am treated rather as a celebrity down here. Due to this, I have been able to continue moving forward my dark Master's purposes through my family, and have already destroyed the foolish Hektor, although I do not look forward to paying back that particular favor to Belthezor. With Yuselass unable to join the holy orders, Hektor's attempt to redeem the dynasty is placed temporarily on hold, though I fully expect that the Enemy will be pushing as hard as I to sway the course of our destiny. With luck, some of my offspring will have inherited my tendencies, and make it easier for me to exert my influence.

Very nice written, but... Queen Yuselass did joined the Holy Order, increased her rank in it, took a celibacy vows, dethroned the excommunicated King, apparently planning a pilgrimage and at the edge of becoming paragon of virtue (just 5 points of piety to become known as Queen Yuselass The Holy if I'm correct).

    • @malcolmbuster2198

I'm gonna be planning on doing a short recap of the prior episode from the perspective of King Connor. Obviously, he's sexist enough and/or doesn't know enough about the holy orders to realize Yuselass can join, so that'll be in the next journal.

Jon RP is the best way to play this game always RP over min maxing.
Also one more thing about inheritance, there is a law to say land can't leave your realm if the owner gets a title in another realm it's a very good one to pass though I think it's locked behind a level of legalism IIRC

No, no that's the great thing about vassals, as long as they are fighting eachother they aren't bothering you.

    STOP ASSAULTING THE BLOODY CASTLES!

    • @DZ-1987
      @DZ-1987 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

I actually agree, (Note that i speak in the real world sense and not in the CK2 sense) castles were designed to keep people out. So assaulting the place directly is quite stupid. Specially a fortress, God and Bennet, Jon you saw what a fortress could look like yourself in Medieval 2. If built right, even a castle in just a flat piece of land could devastate a massive army, even if the defenders were to loose. Trust me, i know. I BUILD CASTLES FOR SHIT'S SAKE! In a realistic sense, in a way that's likely to be built.
If your gonna assault anything, assault a palace. Damn things are asking to be destroyed.

In games that let me build. Like Minecraft or Fallout 4. In minecraft, after i built a castle, i challenge my friends to siege it in a historical way. And by that, i mean, ladder assault, siege tower (I usually let them build it near the walls along with the Battering Ram) and all that. Thanks to the custom NPC's mod, i let them make an army of there choosing (And i make sure they don't stick there health to over 9000 so its fair) and have them attack. The attackers win if they kill everyone, capture me, capture the keep, make me bored (Usually i'd laugh at there face if they can't figure out a strategy to get in but once i get bored that represents them starving out the castle) or simply... force me to surrender. How does that work? well it depends on what me mates do.
In other games, the A.I exist so i let them do the work. Which reminds me, i need to finish Krasbinstein castle in Stonehearth.

You should ask if the Duke of Connachta would like to swear fealty to you. Offer him vassalization. Since he's of your dynasty and you're powerful, he might just agree and enjoy the extra power. Then you'll be able to just attack Breifne at your leisure, as Aed of Connachta has a permanent de jure claim on Breifne. Do that, and you can just make the Kingdom of Ireland and thus the Empire of Cornwall whenever you please!

  • @TheShadowofDragons

Word of advice, take the garrison Morale and fort level into account before assaulting. While assaulting it becomes a race of whether the attackers or defenders morale runs out first, and the morale of attackers decreases faster due to the losses they take doing it.
As a general rule, Cities are usually okay to assault, as unless they are capitals of rich republics, they are rarely built up to respectable fort levels, and Churches are usually okay to assault as well, as while they have a higher base fort level than cities, they are still require some major investment for that to become a true impediment to your attacks. Feel free to assault tribes whenever you want.
Castles are rarely worth assaulting due to the small morale bonus defenders get upon you beginning an assault usually combining with the high base fort level pushing the casualties you take through the roof, and allowing them to easily win the morale race.
All of this is of course in general, there are circumstances where assaulting castles is a great idea, and assaulting Churches or Cities is a nightmare. Best thing is to look at the holding's Fort Level and current morale every time you are thinking about assaulting.

    The relevant focuses are
    Diplomacy : Family focus
Stewardship : Business and Rulership focus
    Martial : War focus
Intrigue : Intrigue and Seduction focus
For some reason it doesn't seem as if you can upgrade your Learning education trait, so that's something to keep in mind.

About invading Capitols; the war goal is the most valuable for war score, but as a second priority you should absolutely target not just the Capitol of your enemy, but all their personal holdings. This is a game of characters more so than nations. Personal holdings I think are worth more war score than vassal lands, but you also weaken them after the war is over. If they have no troops and bad income they will be in a weaker position in their own kingdoms and may be overthrown. Since truces are personal, you can keep taking lands as long as they keep switching leaders.

it's based on the councilor you sent to find them, but generally if that relevant stat is below (i think) 15 base (that being before any modifiers from traits) they're a fake mystic and you're guaranteed to not get immortality. Fake mystics are the first failure point, and a common one.
After that there are 3 (i think) dice roll decisions, each with less and less chance of success... this culminates in a final decision that will either kill you, reincarnate you (a new child is spawned that has all of your traits), or make you immortal

The cat and the dog _would_ have fought... you'd have had to give one away, or try to get them to get along... which would give you a 50% chance of a dead or lost pet plus getting rid of the other or 75% chance of depression... or them _really_ becoming good friends and giving you +1 diplomacy and intrigue, _and_ the +1 health from _each_ of the pets, for as long as they lived.
TL;DR, you _probably_ should have taken the cat, it'd have been worth it if you were lucky on the 50% roll.
(Plus, the cat can help you get better if you ever get depressed, which is _also_ true in real life.)

Wasn't that count of Desmond already landed and your subject? I think getting him to leave his wife and putting him as a different count in North Wales, left his wife struggling to manage and therefore caused the Munster rebellions. For inviting to court, I'm pretty sure you can just make someone a mayor or a baron, you don't have to give them a whole county to get a claim to press. Love the fact you are focusing on Role Playing, that's why we're loving it. :D

  • @ojpete
    @ojpete 6 ปีที่แล้ว

About laying siege to Middlesex, you were actually right, but for the wrong reason. If you siege the personal holding of the person you are at war with, it counts more for war score than if you take control of the vassal territory - with the exception of the war goal. If a king or emperor has enough holdings, it's possible to win a war without ever taking territory that you are fighting for. On the other hand, if you are defending, you can quickly win a war by taking control of the war leader's territories - a good tip for defending in a holy war. Also, the king's castles will have their levies raised and moved out, so you would only be dealing with the garrison, as opposed to the vassal's castles, which would have both and take longer to siege.
If you are going to assault a castle, a good rule of thumb is to have 10x the number of defenders. That's why some of your assaults were failing. You can get away with 5x, but you will take less casualties overall the more troops you have. Once you've taken the castle, the bishopric and towns "must" be taken, it's just extra loot to your coffers. And when looking for which counties to take, the ones with less troops is a good thing to look for, but you also had a chance to take a bishopric as a top holding (during the excommunication war), which would have a fort level of about 2 - 3 instead of a castle, which at this time would be about 5 - 6
Also, if you give away land from one of your two duchies (you're allowed two duchies before people get upset with you), you should be able to plot to revoke the land later. Don't get me wrong, it will still likely result in a civil war, but at least it will be "legal" so as not to cause vassals to dislike how you revoked the land.
You're doing great, although if possible, could you name your custom empire Cornholio, or something Beavis and Butt-Head-ish?

Retinues: You can accidentally dismiss them. The tool tip will show *red* and warn you. I've done the same thing when in the frenzy of troop dismissal after a war. Otherewise, even if killed off they will respawn very slowly so long as you have money. Tanistry: Scary once you hold a couple of kingdoms. Each kingdom has its own set of rules and inheritance laws. Even if you move all of them to Tanistry, each kingdom elects its own tanist. If you form an empire, you have tanist for the empire and one for each kingdom. (Ask me how I know! lol) I played three scary generations of tanistry empire praying it didn't fall apart to different leaders.

In regards to an Empire title: It is generally better to try and acquire a De Jure Empire title, rather than creating a brand new one. Its much easier to do, for one, and it gives you De Jure claims against a lot of territory you might not own, whereas custom Empire titles do not.

Jon. You don't want to assault a holding just because you have a numbers advantage. "Assault the holding" literally means you command all your troops to just run at the walls in a zerg rush or banzai charge. Simply having as many dudes as the holding has is not nearly enough to have it work out. I usually don't assault a holding unless I outnumber the defenders five to ten times, or if the holding only has a miniscule amount of troops or I have a lot of archers in my attacking force. If you send 1300 guys to assault 1300 defenders, you will lose hard every time.
