God Bless you Jake Peavy. You always gave your all for this team...watched you come up through Lake Elsinore and dominate for a few seasons in San Diego. There's no wonder why Joe idolized you and chose your jersey number. You're a class act.
Peavy is the absolute best. Drafted by and spent 8 years with the Padres, bringing the 2007 Cy Young award to San Diego (the only regular starter in all of MLB to have an ERA under 3 that year @ 2.54.) I also know people that have met him and they mention how nice he was to them. It was terrible when they traded him to the White Sox, but at least that gave him a chance win 2 rings with other teams. There needs to be some serious discussion about retiring #44!!!
I remember Jake at 4S Ranch Field watching his son play soccer! Man this guy was bombarded and just wanted to watch his sons game but he was so kind and signed everyone’s gear! Never complained and always took the high road! He is a class act! ❤️
As a Giants fan i was really happy that he was able to get a ring in 2014 with the Giants with the coach he started with bochey. I know he is sd all the way but i got allot of love for Peavy. when he use to dominate the Giants in his prime i would hate when they faced him but from a fan of pitching he was unbelievable i remember he would throw from all different release points just super funky. I also remember when bonds was at 699 homeruns and the sd had a lead he went after bonds and was throwing hittable pitches and imo gave him gift pitch that he hit for 700 I'm pretty sure we lost the game but i always thought that was super respectful.
A lot of past popular Padres still live in San Diego. Time for ownership to Reach Out to them and bring in guys like Jake who WANT to be a part of this team again and who will mix it up with the fans like Jake does. No egos, just guys who will hang with the fans and the team. Let's start a tradition like that. Other teams do it ,why not US?
We deserve better!!! San Diego is the second largest city in California and 8th in America, I'm sick and tired of people talking about we didn't care about the Chargers staying or we could care less about the Padres! Now, we just clinched the NLCS and Peter Siedler is a prime example of putting a winning product and the fans will show! Dean Spanos is struggling with rents to the rams hahaha!!! Go Padres!!!
Hearing Jake say “I cant wait to see the next 44.” That sent chills. Baseball is multi generational and these guys are here to see it- in our city. So beautiful.
Jake is Padres family. It would great to see him in uniform again coaching our pitchers. There’s a wealth of knowledge and experience with Jake and we would be lucky to able to tap into that.
peavy will always be embedded in san diego padres fans hearts ! i was so blessed to see him play his first start against the yankees at qualcomm.. i new he was special
I miss Jake Peavy. He was a true gamer! I still remembered his debut at the Q. Only pitcher in baseball history to win a rings back to back with two different ball clubs with the Red Sox and Giants. Glad he got them. Come back to SD Peavy!
Ahh yes, Jake gave us Giants fans a great WS championship. I was glad Botchy got Jake to rejoin him again for a championship run... Good to see Jake again. Go Padres!
It was great that John Moores got Petco built but his commitment to a championship was never truly there. What I remember is the padres promising to put all that increased revenue from the new stadium into the team but after the park got built they slashed payroll . Then moores said the pads would have a “competitive” team then it was all about “signability” . It’s like competitive is nice but what about a f*ufking ws championship? But that’s in the past I’m glad we got an owner w deep pockets today that’s hell-bent on winning a championship. Something we never had as chargers fans lol
I love Peavy - he's an All Star warrior and communicator. It's only a matter of time before he comes back to be part of the Padres again and looking forward to that!
Still remember when Jake was on the mound...he'd be talking to himself to right the ship when things were getting kind of hectic. Was easy for me to relate with those occasional "what are you doing? let's get it together" moments.
Peavy mentioning to see who the next 44 is in San Diego. I don't believe there will be another 44. I think its very possible if Joe continues to pitch the he has been and he continues to play for the Padres, his number will get retired.
its no surpprise that Jake is being a class act, when it comes to how guys like him and Hoffman, choose to describe the former owner, John Moores....they know how harmful his ownership was, but they choose to restrain their criticism of him. Im a Padre fan since 1973..so Ive seen ALL OF THE OWNERS, up to present day...and when I say the difference between the current owner Peter Seidler and John Moores, is the distance between Earth and Saturn, thats what I mean. John Moores and his money, turned the '98 team into pennant winners..and after that, John Moores completely took his hands off the wheels and allowed the Padres franchise, to return back to being "THE JOKE OF MLB", that it was after its first owner, Ray Kroc died...he invested NO MONEY into the scouting/develop dept...he had oppurtunites to allow his GM, the late Kevin Towers, to go after the better prospects the draft had to offer..but instead, he blew off, draft after draft, after draft, after draft. And in doing so, he put the team behind the 8 ball so bad, it took DECADES for this franchise to TRULY right itself. There are a number of former Padre execs and players, in the Padre HoF..Larry Lucchino was recently honored and given a plaque, for all that he did for this franchise, when he was a co-owner. Larry, was key, in getting Petco Park built. But everyone also noticed that his partner during his tenure in SD, John Moores has not been recognized by the city or thte Hall of Fame, here...and that's because of how destructive his ownership was to thie club, after Lucchino left for Boston. And its also not a secret that Larry left, because he knew that John Moores was not going to enhance the franchise like it deserved to be. Peter Seidler..thank you for EVERYTHING that you have done for this team and the city of SD.
You are right L2. Lets do it for San Diego. San Diego does not need it since they are already the greatest city. It's not like they are Cleveland. Lets do it and i hope that Clay Kirby, Enzo Hernandez, Nate Colbert, Randy Jones, Mike Ivie, Tito Fuentes, Dave Roberts, Cito Gaston, Johnny Grubb are watching.
Great post! You brought back memories when describing John Moores. I was 15 years old when the Padres won the NL Pennant in 98! I remember crying when Steve Finley caught the last out in ATL it was magical.
@@greasyy1 man, that was a solid documentary. I watched it about 3 yrs ago..and the memories of that particular season I saw ln that footage, still gives me chills.

Great Victory over LA...but now the Padres should aim sharply at toppling Philly in 5 games..& then on to the World Series...if San Deigo wins it all...that's four ( 4 ) baseball series in one season...incredible...keep it going...don't be so delighted defeating the over-hyped Dodgers...next is Philly..then either NY/Houston to win it all...Let's Go Padres!!!

Seeing Peavy in SD again really closes the loop on those mid-00s Padres teams.

I miss the chargers but you don’t let spend tax payer money on welfare for the rich. You don’t pay for millionaire’s stadiums. Period.
