I bought one 5 door 4x4, 105 hp version from 2005 in a very good condition mecanicly (was kept by an old guy in garagge). A bit rust on the bottom, here and there (treated it already), on the body some superficial rust dents, but nothing serious, but for a 19 yeas old car... what more expectation to have?
Tried it in variuos terrain. On the road behaves very well till 110 km/h with a 7 l consumption. It not accelerate like my 2004 1.4 l Civic, but on regullar uppword serpentine road has more power (I live in a small mountain side town). It's ideal for calm persons.
Tested it in mountain-forest- muddy-snowy terrain with regullar winter tires, it behaves beyond my expectation. The 4x4 works very well. It's a relayable car in various situations (but do not expect to do hard off road with it. It's not built for such)
Very satisfied with it till now.

I have had a two door 1999 HRV and I drove it for 11 years until the body got so rotten and various other problems appeared so I was not keen on spending a lot of money on it so I decided the heck with it and I sold it and bought another HRV this time with four doors and made in 2003. But my dreams of having a nice car for a bit was crushed after a year when problems started appearing. First the brakes, then the clutch, then CV shafts.. Fast forward two years and I am now rebuilding the engine. I was on my way home from a long road trip and my oil light came on. I stopped, refilled, drove for 20 minutes, oil light turned on again. I started to panic, I left the car parked on idle and I started looking for an oil leak. I found it. The exhaust pipe was shooting a shower of oil when idle... But I will now have a fully working brand new engine. Cost me 1740 euros to rebuilt the engine

@@marco-AR the old version of honda hrv was very susepteable to rust mainly in cold climates, because of all the rust. the main rust appears in the inernal metal structure web, mainly the bottom structural plates and beams, also, the bottom parts of all doors and the wheelwells tend to rot out severely. I lucked out and when I bought my 2003 hrv it was driven very scaresely, only had 150k so it was mainly rust free and immedeately after bying it I went to a body shop and asked to clean off all scale rust and put on a rubber antirust coating on all surfaces in the bottom, the whelwells, etc. because Lithuanian winters are very salty. if you open the doors and immediately you see the nottom corners of the door well or the door itself rusty that is an immediate sign that you have to look beneath, the wheelwells and the bottom plates and beams.
