Up until Laena's funeral, someone is still politicking. With Laenor's sons not trueborn, and Laena having daughters only, Driftmark is another high seat with a succession crisis looming in the distance.
I didn't pick this up at first (like most, I thought it was another Daemon being an A-hole moment), but on rewatch the nuance really pops. Also, not everyone at that funeral could understand what Vaemond was saying as not all of them spoke High Valyrian--Vaemond was making that swipe at a select audience.
There is no stealing a dragon. Dragons choose their riders not the other way around. If Vhagar didn't like him and deemed him worthy he would be dead. Vhagar was testing him during the entire flight.
And the worst thing is like they attack him, he shouldnt hit her but they were who attack him 4 on 1, and Jace was the one who takes out the knife and attack him over an insult, Aemond had a rocke yes, but he didnt use it until Jace attacked him with the knife
The best episode of the season so far! Absolutely handled the claiming of Vhagar and the ensuing fight with the children and the mothers. The tensions continue to amp up and the battle lines have now been drawn. Say a prayer for Viserys, he is holding this whole thing together with his one semi-okay arm.

Alicent really the center of everything. Her son is the first born male to the King and has the namesake AEGON. Her father is the hand of the king. Her bodyguard is kings guard. All her children are silver haired. The other son rides the biggest dragon. She has the king around her. Very complex character well done HOTD I’m team green.
It's interesting to me that at this point in the show Daemon is seen in a much more favorable light then Criston. Daemon has killed two innocent people for his own personal gain, many more by fire, and probably many more off screen. Daemon's ledger is covered in more blood than Rhaenyra's bloody trail.
Because you get what you see with Daemon he is what he is he does what he does you know what he’s capable of and doesn’t hide it but Cole on the other hand tries to say how honorable he is when he’s not he beat a man to death bullies children and is more loyal to the Queen than king let alone what he says about the future heir he’s a hypocrite
Daemon killed 2 people for Rhaenyra, and he will kill more for her lmao WATCH HIM. He was married with his 1st wife for a LONG TIME and he did not do anything. He killed when he was pushed to the edge by Viserys by not setting that marriage aside, instead of letting him marry of the one he chooses. Also, people like Daemon because he is in Rhaenyra's side, and Criston isn't. We don't fckn care on the Greens.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Thing is even Alicent seems to be ignoring Haelena thinking she’s dimwit when in real Haelena is just being the seer of this generation. If only the greens knew how to utilise her well.

It’s interesting how she is a making of her father, and he made her so paranoid that she raised her children the same way, but if she had followed her own path, things would have gone better. Imagine having Helaena being able to predict things during a war, but waste her for being a woman and for you not believing in anything outside your own church lol
Dragons are highly intelligent and magical creatures. They choose their riders. To say that Vhagar was stolen is like an insult to her. She let Aemond ride her because she deemed he was worthy.
I wish there was an extra episode between 5 & 6 tho. I think ep6 could've used a little more build up. But other than that, this season is turning out to be fucking awesome and so well written... unlike RoP HAHA lol :D
The kids did such an amazing job this episode. They were all great. That fighting scene was not an easy one to act out but they did such a good job! They all played their part so well I’m gunna miss them but I’m sure the older actors will be great too 😊
Right; nobody takes Vhagar unless Vhagar allows it. Aemond was recognized and Vhagar-approved. (before Laena claimed Vhagar, her rider was Prince Baelon the Brave, Aemond's grandfather; so there was a blood affinity there as well as from Laena to Rhaena; but in the end, the dragon's choice does not seem to depend wholly on degree of Targaryen royal blood)

True, but no one has explained that to Laena's grieving young daughters. To them, especially Rhaena, who doesn't have a dragon, Vhagar was their mother's legacy, a part of her that they did not want to relinquish. Rhaena probably planned to claim Vaghar after the funeral; being to immersed in the ceremonial and actual acute mourning for mother to approach the great dragon.
I loved this episode, but what's with Miguel Sapochnik and dark lens filters? I have a 65" OLED 4kUHD TV, I was streaming it in Dolby Vision, I had the TV set up in Film-Maker mode and my lights were off and I still couldn't see a damn thing!
Oh my god, all the reactors same story. He didnt stole the dragon, this dragon is very old and had many masters before, he rightfully took it and dragon accepted. And like many you were chered when four of them attacked him, thats tactic of cowards.
That “where is duty, where is sacrifice” scene…Olivia Cooke doing some Dinklage level lifting there. The agony, the passion! That’s a Emmy nomination scene. “We Know Father. Everyone Knows”. That’s Aegon’s “the Prince will remember that little Lord” moment. Aemond taming Vhagar & holding his own in a 1v4 makes him the real chad in my eyes. Only wholesome moment, our Prince resting his head on his mom’s shoulder to let her know she can depend on him. Last but not least, GOATTO Hightower with the coldest win or you die reference, “we play an ugly game”...and I’m the meme of Homer Simpson decked out in green onsies, sitting on green cushions, wearing a Hightower snapback, holding a Go Greens flag with a Alicent poster on the wall😂. Meanwhile checking in on Blacks: “What is honor compared to a woman’s uncle”-Maester Aemon 😳
I felt like this was the best episode of this season so far. What a great episode. The tension was built up so well. Slowly building each episode and then just outright spilling over into this one. The actions of the adults weighing on their children. The chess pieces are being moved all over the board. This felt like a true Game of Thrones episode. The stakes are high and tensions are boiling over. Everyone plotting and scheming. Plus that fight scene between the children was just awesome! I was like ohhh shit kids! Plus the 🐉 scene was so badass!
Since Lenor is outta westeros and accross the sea...Im hoping HIS dragon ditches all the drama...senses and finds him and lays the 3 dormant eggs that we see Danerys ends up with down the road. Would make for a nice Series finale down the road.
She HAD to have the afternoon delight though. I mean, with what she said, it’s clear that he probably couldn’t finish, or who knows if he even got ready to go lmao And all of that could have been prevented if they had a turkey baster or something. Still, the future queen cannot not have children, so she made do with what she could. Laenor still recognized them as his, and they cant prove otherwise (specially since it is possible genetics-wise for them to have black-haired children, as they have Arryn/Baratheon genes). And it’s not like she had another Valyrian to choose from. Who was she gonna bed for half-Velaryon babes? Corlys? For a guy with a gay heir, maybe that would have been the smartest arrangement. “Wife, I shall bed our daughter-in-law for duty and to protect our son and legacy, but I’ll be thinking of you the whole time.” Rhaenys was right, his ambition put their family in danger.
Aemond connecting with Vhagar gave the young boy John Wick abilities. Lol. I was fooled in the last scene. I.thought he wanted to stay with Rhaenyra and help raise the bashtardos. My favorite episode so far. Yeah, the how to train your dragon sequence was super cool. No more flying pigs, Aemond.
I feel like I'm the only one kinda getting Alicent. I'm not saying you have to side with her but I feel like most people just refuse to understand where she's coming from.
I mean they literally called Aemond a piece of shit because he defended himself when he got jumped by four people and got attacked with a knife, so yeah expecting these reactors to understand Alicent is wishful thinking. They're too blinded by Rhaenyra.
I discovered the GoT books in HS prior to the show being announced but I never got around to reading GRRM's history book, so it's really exciting to be going into this series virtually blind

Daemon did t laugh because to be disrespectful to his late wife. He laughed because Vaemond passive aggressively pointed out that rhaenyras children were illegitimate. Otto is now the hand again I almost missed it but it would make sense that allicent would bring her father back into the fold. Daemon is pissed and I don’t blame him. Lost his wife and after all these years after war and this stuff now you want me to come home? After the death of my wife only now you want me back. We see that everyone isn’t blind that those are not laenors children. Allicent in a way is somewhat guilty for strings death. Rhaenyra bout to give in to daemon again. Aegon got fucked up and it’s his own fault should have watched his mouth. Otto is proud bringing out that side of his daughter. Aemond is such a bitch bro he stole his cousins dragon. The only good person left is Laenor honestly. He is atleast trying after losing his sister he reDedicating hisself to his wife. And just then right after his sister dies so does he. But amazingly it’s a switch shaves his head and leaves to live a free life.

They decide who they bond with and who they tolerate. And only them, no one can decide it for them. Of course, once they are bonded they will naturally listen to their rider. Followed up the 'weakest' episode to date with the strongest. This was superb, the way they have established and set these kids up so quickly is great writing. Now we feel the 'cause and effect' of carefully constructed character work. The gulf in quality between this and another prominent fantasy show currently airing is huge.
I'm wondering if Corlys and Rhaenys are told the truth about Laenor. I hope so and have to assume so or else I'd expect them to turn against Rhaenyra. I know in this world if the King or soon to be Queen say those boys are Velaryon then they are, no arguments, like making Gendry legitimate.
I love to hear your takes on every episode and the characters! Alicent is finally showing herself and with Otto back and Vhagar on their side, the blacks need to stick together. What a beautiful valyrian ceremony and their plan for Laenor was awesome, a great exit for him and a power move, the pieces are finally aligning for the war!
Vhagar is the biggest and strongest dragon at that time but not the deathliest or bloodiest ,there is one other dragon and its rider who can match vhagar even though its fâr far younger
This was close to a perfect episode except for the whole Laenor being infertile . it doesn’t make any sense whatsoever in the context of what is already established about these Characters ,it cheapens everything about them.
They don't say he is infertile just that 5-10 unenthusiastic and very likely awkward and difficult sexual encounters weren't enough to get her knocked up.

I’m sorry, you can say what you will about Daemon and Rhaenyra incest but Alicent is a power hungry snake like her father. She as Rhaenyra’s best friend slept with her grieving father shortly after losing his wife the queen to gain power. The King skipped over his brother the only adult Targaryen male alive, skipped over his just born son from his late wife and proclaimed his daughter Rhaenyra as his heir and future queen of the 7 kingdoms. She even married Laenor so a Velaryon male would be the king and even tried having children with him to keep the peace. Alicent on the other hand has spent the last 15 to 20 years trying to undermine Leanor and Rhaenyra’s claim to the throne so that her son/her family take over the 7 kingdoms. Even after countless times of Rhaenyra trying to be Alicents friend all she see is the power of the throne.

They can’t, because for House Velaryon they just lost their heir, and that’s a succession crisis for them to happen. Rhaenys would never let it go, and she will also be able to annul Daemon and Rhaenyra’s marriage by accusing her of polygamy. Right now, the only reason House Velaryon would continue to support Rhaenyra is because Daemon’s two daughters are for sure their blood relatives, and Rhaenys will want to keep contact to them.
More likely Laenor will be dead by the time of the actual dance and the use of the dragonseeds like Addam. Seasmoke may have been instructed by Laenor to remain on Driftmark; or he flies off too, it’s not unheard of for dragons to go wild and the Velayrons are prolly too distraught to care that Seasmoke left. I mean the time jump is another 6 years, even by then Laenor could’ve died
I think people are overthinking it. The dragon doesn't mystically and magically know that its rider who has been gone the better part of a decade is somehow still alive. Laenor is dead, regardless of whether or not he died.

Meanwhile checking in on Blacks: “What is honor compared to a woman’s uncle”-Maester Aemon 😳

I felt like this was the best episode of this season so far. What a great episode. The tension was built up so well. Slowly building each episode and then just outright spilling over into this one. The actions of the adults weighing on their children. The chess pieces are being moved all over the board. This felt like a true Game of Thrones episode. The stakes are high and tensions are boiling over. Everyone plotting and scheming. Plus that fight scene between the children was just awesome! I was like ohhh shit kids! Plus the 🐉 scene was so badass!
Since Lenor is outta westeros and accross the sea...Im hoping HIS dragon ditches all the drama...senses and finds him and lays the 3 dormant eggs that we see Danerys ends up with down the road. Would make for a nice Series finale down the road.

Still, the future queen cannot not have children, so she made do with what she could. Laenor still recognized them as his, and they cant prove otherwise (specially since it is possible genetics-wise for them to have black-haired children, as they have Arryn/Baratheon genes).

Daemon did t laugh because to be disrespectful to his late wife. He laughed because Vaemond passive aggressively pointed out that rhaenyras children were illegitimate. Otto is now the hand again I almost missed it but it would make sense that allicent would bring her father back into the fold. Daemon is pissed and I don’t blame him. Lost his wife and after all these years after war and this stuff now you want me to come home? After the death of my wife only now you want me back. We see that everyone isn’t blind that those are not laenors children. Allicent in a way is somewhat guilty for strings death. Rhaenyra bout to give in to daemon again. Aegon got fucked up and it’s his own fault should have watched his mouth. Otto is proud bringing out that side of his daughter. Aemond is such a bitch bro he stole his cousins dragon. The only good person left is Laenor honestly. He is atleast trying after losing his sister he reDedicating hisself to his wife. And just then right after his sister dies so does he. But amazingly it’s a switch shaves his head and leaves to live a free life.

It's a dragon. Dragons in GRRM's lore are highly intelligent and independent living beings with a will of their own.
They decide who they bond with and who they tolerate. And only them, no one can decide it for them. Of course, once they are bonded they will naturally listen to their rider. But until then they are an individual entity with their own free will and thoughts.

This episode was wonderful, the only problem is that the beach scene is very dark, they didn't learn from Game of Thrones, Daemon laughed because corlys' brother was badmouthing Rhaenyra's children look at Rhaenyra's reaction how uncomfortable she is in the scene
Daemon and Rhaenyra's wedding scene was so beautiful During the wedding ceremony, Daemon and Rhaenyra would draw two Valyrian glyphs on each other's foreheads, meaning "Fire" and "Blood" - the words of House Targaryen 🔥
Viserys said in episode 4 that they are both dragons and restless, Rhaenyra always loved Daemon as Daemon always loved Rhaenyra is that and spoken of in the book and also and only in the first episode do we realize the connection between the two, as actors Emma and Matt said that Daemon and Rhaenyra were meant to burn together is that they love each other Yes they are marrying for love they both love each other always have

Followed up the 'weakest' episode to date with the strongest. This was superb, the way they have established and set these kids up so quickly is great writing. Now we feel the 'cause and effect' of carefully constructed character work. The gulf in quality between this and another prominent fantasy show currently airing is huge.
Even the weakest episode stuff sbout episode 5 is mainly because of the time jump and the new chracters

This was close to a perfect episode except for the whole Laenor being infertile . it doesn’t make any sense whatsoever in the context of what is already established about these Characters ,it cheapens everything about them.
They don't say he is infertile just that 5-10 unenthusiastic and very likely awkward and difficult sexual encounters weren't enough to get her knocked up.

I’m sorry, you can say what you will about Daemon and Rhaenyra incest but Alicent is a power hungry snake like her father. She as Rhaenyra’s best friend slept with her grieving father shortly after losing his wife the queen to gain power. The King skipped over his brother the only adult Targaryen male alive, skipped over his just born son from his late wife and proclaimed his daughter Rhaenyra as his heir and future queen of the 7 kingdoms. She even married Laenor so a Velaryon male would be the king and even tried having children with him to keep the peace. Alicent on the other hand has spent the last 15 to 20 years trying to undermine Leanor and Rhaenyra’s claim to the throne so that her son/her family take over the 7 kingdoms. Even after countless times of Rhaenyra trying to be Alicents friend all she see is the power of the throne.

They can’t, because for House Velaryon they just lost their heir, and that’s a succession crisis for them to happen. Rhaenys would never let it go, and she will also be able to annul Daemon and Rhaenyra’s marriage by accusing her of polygamy.
Right now, the only reason House Velaryon would continue to support Rhaenyra is because Daemon’s two daughters are for sure their blood relatives, and Rhaenys will want to keep contact to them.

Seasmoke may have been instructed by Laenor to remain on Driftmark; or he flies off too, it’s not unheard of for dragons to go wild and the Velayrons are prolly too distraught to care that Seasmoke left.
I mean the time jump is another 6 years, even by then Laenor could’ve died

I think people are overthinking it. The dragon doesn't mystically and magically know that its rider who has been gone the better part of a decade is somehow still alive. Laenor is dead, regardless of whether or not he died.
