Davy-Digitech rp 255 test & save me(Damageplan cover)

How do you get such a clean whammy sweep? I have a 255 and the whammy seems to either be on or off when I move the pedal. Also, it gets really distorted when it's on like one octave up. Is it because I'm using very cheap equipment (the electric guitar and amp I am using are low quality)? TIA
