Nice looking model. I've always been a fan of ESU Loksound. They've got a ton of programmable features. I have a DC (probably DCC ready) Atlas Classic U-Boat in MKT colors and it's a VERY nice locomotive for the price.
Back before 1980, the fireman rode the left cab seat, the conductor was in the caboose. I do wish Atlas would just use the coupler mounting screws to hold the body to the frame. That notch between radiators makes it a Phase 1 body style. For those who want to know more, check out Model Railroad Craftsman in the mid-late 80s. The raised hatch in front of the stack is the dynamic brake grid.
I’ve been looking at the C424s for a while but there aren’t any good reviews so thanks for making this one! I’ve been looking for the TP&W models that they made a while back but they are very scarce. Fun fact though, my great, great, great, grandfather, Carl Howe was the Vice president of traffic for the Erie Railroad. I don’t know much but he might have been the Vice President of the Railroad.
Good review! I think you might be onto something regarding their speakers. My sound-equipped Atlas locomotives have a little more of a "defined" sound than some other brands I own.
I’ve never seen Erie Lackawanna in the black and yellow livery. I’ve seen Erie in their black and yellow diesel livery, but not Erie Lackawanna. Those had the grey, yellow, and maroon livery. Must be a unit specific livery.
What kind of tracks are those and can u run different models like from different companies on the same kind of track. I just recently picked up interest into model trains so have no knowledge on these
Atlas is starting to move up there in price. use to be the cheaper of brands that helped beginners grow their collection. I do like Atlas loco's, best feature is the crew figures.
What is the difference between the motor/driveline of the Classic vs. Gold/Silver? The Gold/Silver seems to run quieter. I know the Gold/Silver has a bit more detail.
@@CentralJerseyRailfan I must have gotten 2 bum Classic locos because they were really loud runners compared to the several Gold/Silver models I have. regards, NS
@@CentralJerseyRailfan I'm sorry, I was talking about the difference between the Master and Classic locos. I have both but I don't have a Trainman. The Atlas Classic I have is a GP7. Maybe it needs more break in, but my Master locomotives ran smooth and quiet right out of the box.
AAR B trucks. Blomberg trucks are an EMD design, found on most EMD Geeps.

Awesome locomotive! Love the sounds! Great to see some EL!

Did you ever find your TP&W models? I recently found 800 and 801. I'm pretty pumped.
@@GrandTrunkWestern85 I haven’t found them yet.
5:34 the trucks are the AAR type. Nice review!
Thanks!

Gold/Silver just denotes DCC Sound or DC/DCC Ready. Classic is a product line much like Master and Trainman. Shared drive across the product lines

@@Form44208 funny, as today’s Classic releases have both Gold and Silver versions. Do you have both Master and Trainman engines ur talking about?

Nice looking Alco, but those "headlights" go to go. Needs bright prototypical looking leds!!
Rey detailed locomotive :)
Very*
Man Atlas has not been doing great with sounds latley. I remember my C424 I got in 7tn grade a few years ago. Sounded way better.
