    • @emperortgp2424
      @emperortgp2424 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      It's not semantics. In the fields of science, there's a crucial difference between a speculation/conjecture and a hypothesis. In fact...
      _Hypothesis are speculations that have a base on prior factual and objective knowledge_
      Nice, there you go. Hopefully you understa-
      _yet, they still are speculations at their core_
      No. It's the next step. Speculations aren't necessarily based on evidence. But a hypothesis is.
      Bonus: Please also look up the difference between evidence and proof since you seem to use those two interchangeably.

    • @emperortgp2424

Oh and I must not forget to mention that your video "why we may not be able to visit space in the future " helped me with a project ,although I had to translate a few parts of the video in my language (Greek), iam about to finish the project in about a week , my teacher was impressed of my progress and the idea and she can't wait to see my project finished . Of course i mentioned your channel and i also have put the name of the video as well .I want to say that iam very happy that I have found this absolutely great channel and I hope you would continue making these truly interesting and creative video . Dust caused by collisions between planets, asteroids, or other celestial bodies seems like a reasonable explanation.

    • @f4llen489
      @f4llen489 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      AnonYMoose Would also explain the long term dimming over time up to -20%, because more and more dust started orbiting. Pretty solid actually.

    For all of you complaining about the catalog name, this star is also known as star Boyajian's star or Tabby's star, after the lead researcher who first noticed and investigated the peculiarities of this star. The author of the video just chose to skip that part and barely mentioned Boyajian at all because....reasons...I guess. As a side note, it is also know as the WTF star as the first paper that Boyajian published on this star was entitled "What the flux". Yes, she chose that title on purpose :)

      The fact that they probably aren’t harvesting a star doesn’t mean life on other planets doesn’t exist. I am extremely sure that it does somewhere yet we wouldn’t know and either way it does not have to be that technologically advanced they could be very primal aliens far, far away.

    • @johnbrown6347
      @johnbrown6347 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I agree starlifting or harvesting is the best explanation so far. The it's only dust theory has already been dismissed because the explanation does not take into account the long term dimming. The answer must satisfy both the long term and the periodic dimming, a huge dust cloud does not. Point of fact the dust cloud hypothesis was ruled out very early on for this very reason. To be honest all as of yet proposed natural explanations have been ruled out, because they can not answer both the long term and periodically dimming effects.
      Star lifting does take into account both, the machine to harvest a star would be close enough to the star that it would be very hard to distinguish a radiant heat from that of the star itself. A periodic dimming effect would take place as the machine blocked hue portions of the star, and as the star lost mass it would lose brightness over the long run.

    1:46 I actually knew Freeman Dyson back in the early 1980s. His wife Imme and I belonged to the same running club (Mercer-Bucks Running Club) in Lawrenceville, NJ. Everyone would meet once a week to do track workouts or cross-country running. He would come to pick her up at 8 pm when the workouts were over. He always had a big smile. At the time I didn't know of his standing in the physics world--I just knew him as this kindly man. ❤️

    My theory is that two planets in orbits close to eachother were formed when that solar system was still young. They could have collided a few hundred or a few thousand years ago, causing them to either leave behind a massive dustcloud. Or they collided, left a huge dustcloud, and merged into a new planet which causes the smaller dips in the star’s brightness
