Cinema 4D Quick Tip: Smoothly Deform Splines in Cinema 4D to Create Audio Waveform Visualizations

  • In this quicktip, you'll learn how to add smooth deformations to a spline using the C4D MoSpline object. When you add deformation to a spline in Cinema 4D, the result is typically jagged because the deformation is applied to all of the spline's intermediate points. Using a MoSpline object, you can deform the spline and then apply Cubic, Akima or B-Spline interpolation between the deformed points. You'll see how this works both with a Displace Deformer and with the Cinema 4D R19 MoGraph Sound Effector.

in the beginning, if you want to move the spline you need:
    create spline
    add displacer
inside the displacer select "shading" and add "noise", for example, "wavy turbulance"
set the various parameters as u need
    "global scale"
    "animation Speed"
    Done.
now you can start with the sound effector

If you're making a tutorial, always start from the beginning (new file).

when you jump to the second project, how did you get the mospline to move and bend the way it does with the sound effector? When I set it up, it just seems to jump the whole spline up and down keeping it as a straight line

I have also this problem! Do you know the answer to this?

@@lve_loovaneck You need to increase the probe box in the sound effector. So create a Mospline and keep the settings as shown in the tutorial. Then add the sound effector and load your audio track. Then you see that your probe (that's the box that's shown in your Amplitude waveform) is very small. Increase it's with and then you'll see the waveform in your mospline!

For anyone trying to follow this tutorial and wondering what's missing .... you need to go to the sound effector / effector / probe properties / sampling / and select "step"

why is that the spline only deforms in 2D? How can I get the deformer to effect the spline points in 3D space instead of only up and down?

how did you get the line to animate with just a Displacer???
