The Silent Enigma is IMO a master piece. Their best album.
This isn't "old anathema", this is the transition period. Old anathema was death/doom metal. Heavier, more dense, more distortion, growls (when Darren White was the vocalist). Still fucking amazing!! They where always amazing!!
An absolute epic band and I owe it all to my support InfintyZ for introducing me to what is now one of my all time favorite bands!
@@ptbempire my absolute favorite band of all time. The only band in the history of music that change almost every single album, for decades, and never lost his quality. I mean... Pink Floyd is also like that, but the change and quality of songs is greater in Anathema (I know... Blasphemy!!! But I think that lol)
The first time I listen to them, was 96, probably. At the time I hate metal, and some friends put the first CD of them (only one at the time) for me to listen. I remember clearly saying "I mean... I like it, it's metal but it had nice riffs. But you know what? This band should sound amazing in acoustic" everybody make fun of me lol "acoustic? A metal band? You are insane!!!"
Fast forward to 2004, the first time they come play to my country, huge fan of them, and metal by now. It wasn't a real Anathema concert. It was just Danny and Vincent, with a cello player. The first time ever they do a acoustic show. To this day, it's still the best show I ever saw in my life. It wasn't even a concert. Was a experience. For us, for them. By the end everybody was in shock, shivering, crying, completely in silence. Not even knowing what to feel, how to process everything we have witness.
After that, I saw them around 10 times more. Including their last concert ever. Almost in the beginning of their tour, they said for the next week everything was canceled because of COVID, and probably the whole tour will be canceled (at the time we still don't know how things will be). Eventually everything was canceled, and they have so much debt that they have to end the band.
I'll never had a band that I love so much like I love Anathema. They are really one of a kind. Almost 30 years making music, and never had a dip in their quality. Amazing songs, in all their different sounds, in all their different experiments. Just mind blowing how talented they all are. One of those bands that had 2 freaking genius writing songs for one band (Danny Cavanaugh and Duncan Patterson, who leave the band early on)
Just amazing band. And every album is just amazing. Such a amazing band, that most people love them and don't even know their best álbuns and songs lol In my opinion, their best álbuns are Alternative 4 and Judgement. And most new listeners just skip those 2 masterpieces of music
@@almahperditae Floyd is my all-time favorite and when I heard them cover them I just knew they would be in my favorites as well.
@@ptbempire Pink Floyd is probably their biggest influence. If it's your favorite band, then you going to love Judgement and Alternative 4. Was around that time that they where more Floydesc... This song you react to was when they where in a trasition period, after Darren White (death metal vocalist) leave the band, and trying to move from the death/doom metal. But at the time still not sure where to go, make a kinda gothic album, and Vince wasn't still totally comfortable singing clean vocals. By the end of the decade (90's), they try a more Floydesc sound, more acoustic, and Vince started to feel comfortable singing. Around that time their song writing was at the top of their skills. Amazing álbuns, some songs stand as some of the best songs ever written in music history. Lost yourself in that. You won't regret it
Não posso, és mesmo tu? My best friend from once upon a time?
A lot of older fans actually wanted this sound back, but I'm with you that their newer stuff with Lee is much more appealing. It's still fascinating how they used to be and how they became after.
Next song ... Anathema in the same concert... The Phantom of the Opera (IRON MAIDEN COVER).
