Great vid 👍 I used the iPhone “Decibel X” set to “C” weight / “slow” response and placed it at ear height in my seating position. I played test tone and heavy bass tracks to determine the phase on my REL T-9X. Very easy to verify and it eliminates the guessing game.
For me variable phase is great. I have 2 x SVS pb2000 and also 2 x REL T9X at the minute and miss not being able to do it on the REL's ( even though they still sound much better than the SVS ). I spent weeks using REW and a Mic doing small phase changes(one click at a time) then measuring. Sometimes a few milliseonds makes a huge difference and can cancel out huge nuls and also improve the output while flattening the response.
Great video! I found that the high level connection works in one of my systems but the RCA connection works better in another one of my systems. I agree with you that it’s great that REL offers both options but the high level recommendation from REL does not apply to all systems.
Glad you enjoyed. Yeah...REL catches a lot of grief about the high level connections from some, but it's great that they offer both. Not everyone has a separate crossover or bass management. Plus, I've tried using the built in crossovers in subs like SVS, and they were noisy. Like you said, either way can work best depending on the scenario.
hi, I have 3 way Tannoy speakers with 6 REL subs all using High Level connections, should I remove the 8" woofer from the speakers making them 2 way and will that help my modest 40wpc Amp ?
I would use active bass management to relieve your amps from sending bass to the Tannoys that are covered by the RELs. The overlap not only wastes your limited amp power, but it muddies bass. I wouldn't remove the drivers though from the speakers. It can open a can of worms with messing up the rest of the crossover. You would have to go to a fully active crossover for the Tannoy and no longer use the passive network. That's too risky for a high quality Tannoy. Just keep it as is and use an external crossover to roll of the signal to your amp and pass it to your subs. Watch the minidsp SHD videos I'm doing now. That product may work great for you.
I've watched the couple of your videos and I must say I'm starting to enjoy my daily dose of audio information from you.
(hence the 👍+ subscription)
Thanks and welcome to the channel
