    In 68 I fell in love with the Monkey mobile, a 68 GTO convertible(Ironic they had Paul Rev & the Raiders), it was on a Wheaties box too. I always would ask my dad to buy one, he just laughed.
    Fast forward, 1970 he came home with one, I completely did not remember. 1975, senior yr in hs he bought a 63 GMC pick up and gave me the GTO. Got the prettiest girl in school to ride with me after school too. I went off to work later and let my younger brother use the car when he started JC. He turned left at intersection in front of large truck on yellow/red light. I'm glad my bro is still with us today, unharmed.(successfull and well off too). He's retired and I'm still working. Car not so much. Replaced damaged components but frame still slightly tweecked. Have kept car(in shed) for sentimental reasons. Still have his 63 pick up too. I've suffered 2 divorces, 25yrs child support, and now (at 65yrs old) some health issues, but I'm recovering both financially, and healthwise. I just ask TMH for the privilage to be able to sport and enjoy both these vehicles. Both my parents gone now(dad 20+ yrs ago, mom 10yrs ago). I did not realize till too late how they felt/thought about me cuz they both wanted me to have these vehicles. GOD is good.

    The GTO. Is a Street Legend. True American Muscle . The 69 Judge is about as good as it gets . Ram Air IV was rated at 370 horsepower. Ridiculously underrated. More like 430. They were beasts of the streets . “Here come the Judge”

    Never realized the '72 I had was so rare.Lucerne blue,black interior, every possible option,too.Added '70 ram air 3 heads,manifold & carb,3:23 limited slip.With gas shocks & front & rear sway bars,BFG T/As,it also handled great! Had a '66 later on,not so much...4 non power drum brakes,leave room to stop!!!

    My first car was a 68 GTO, Verdoro grn, Parchment seats, black carpet,console,dash. Came with the XS code Ram Air motor. Bought it in 76, a one owner with 60k on it but it had jumped time. Got it for 450 bucks and spent 100 putting a timing chain and gear on it and man that thing was strong. Even came with mind blower speakers and a nice stereo with 8 trk. A straight car with perfect interior. Engine rated at 360 hp or so but they were so underated back then, I wouldn't be surprised it dyno'd out at over 400hp. It would wrap the speedo at top end.

    This should be titled "History of Pontiac GTO Ads". My dad had '66 & '68s as company leased cars, the '66 being a tri-power. Both had clutches and controls that were smooth as glass, and tracked straight as an arrow with hands off the wheel. And that was on bias-ply tires. I was impressed that the factory managed to use a quiet exhaust - except for a pronounced, lumpy rumbling at idle. The insurance surcharge and emissions in the '70s sure took their toll, and the last of the original run was a Chevy Nova with modified front and rear, and GTO stickers. A sad end to a very nice performance car.

    My friend and I got a pair of 64 GTO convertibles. His blue/white top, 411 rear, mine dark green/black top, 333 rear. I had mine at estimated 135 mph in Nevada, once. Sintered metal brakes, declutching fan, rack and pinion steering, and tiger paw tires, as I recall. About $3,200 each, as we wrangled a deal for a package deal.

    In a perfect world, an 04-06 GTO would be my daily driver, a 68 428 4 speed Royal Bobcat GTO, a 70 Trans Am Ram Air IV 4 speed, and a 62 or 63 421 super duty Catalina would be my "fun cars", and a built small block 4x4 67-72 Chevy C10 shortbox would be my winter vehicle lol.

      I would just leave the '04-'06 out. It's a Holden. If you move to the south, you can daily any classic you want all year 'round. There is no snow. This is why I'm taking my '68 Le Mans back to Alabama forever where I belong. It's actually a Missouri car, but somehow is now up in Michigan, hell hole state infested with poverty, drugs, and rust.

    • @joequillun7790
      @joequillun7790 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      JT, you have great taste. I've had that same list too. Well, almost. Never thought about the Holden cars. But I guess I could live with that. Oh yeah, and the truck would be my 83 6.2 C-30 dually, SM465 with a split shifter. All in over hauled condition of course. (As long as we're dreamin.) :D

      Except the 04-06 GTOs are nothing but rebadged Holden Monaros from Australia mate just like the G8s are nothing but rebadged Holden Commodores from Australia as well.

    I still remember in '68 going out for dinner with my folks and being told that after we were through we were going car shopping, for the GTO. As a 13 year old kid, I was stunned. We went and looked, my folks asked the questions, got the brochures, talked amongst themselves, and then after a couple weeks, told me it would be the LeMans. The 400 c.i. engine, dual exhaust, chrome under the hood and that dual gate shift really turned my dad off. They each loved the lines of the car, it was just the LeMans was more what they wanted, and it was just as nice looking.

    Nice vid!
    The peak of design is, for me the 1966. THe 1st fastbacks are also Ok. But the sedan of 1966 was a real brutal beauty. The 1966 Convertible was also awesome. Its a pity that the GM Bosses are afraid of relaunching a new Pontiac GTO with design inaspired of the -60th -70th. And to build a 4 doors 1966 like The Maserati and the Porche have done.
    GM please reconsider your decision!
