Grasshoppers! What to do to get rid of grasshoppers???
That is a tough one. So far I don't have too many. I catch what I can and the rest eat their fill.
@@waylandsmalleycomeonletsplant I'd be fine if they were just eating their fill. They do that nicely on my sweet potato vines. Which is fine because those plants are huge and hearty. Beautiful for being in North Dakota. But, they are chewing 8" to 10" lengths off my tomato plants, and eating the stems to my baby bell peppers and letting those lengths and the baby peppers fall. Not even eating them. 👹 I'm going to try to dust with a little Neem leaf powder and Laurel leaf (bay leaf) powder combo. Maybe that will repell them.
Well, don't have much trouble with hoppers anymore here at my place in Stockton California. Used to be, folks blasted the heck out of them with ..ddt. yeah, it's a wonder we lived thru it. Come the 70s i was more pestered with earwigs and cabbage loppers. Put papers down for wigs overnight, them next am cranked up bbq and creamated wigsin the paper folds. Hoppers, if you can catch them by hand, disable and feed to chicks. Safers spray might work too. Of course there's always, grab a few hoppers, garlic cloves marigold..flowers and leaves peppermint, hot peppers, cooking oil..one eighth cup, ..grind in a blender with enough H2O to make a nice milkshake of bug juice. Mellow for a few days . Strain and apply to plants. Be sure to get undersides of leaves. Also works on dogs that try digging under fences. Won't last forever, but sure beats pesticides. ..also grandma found that lion poo from to zoo deterred deer in her mountain garden. Worked against gophers too when shoved down their holes..mother earth news magazine gave me the bug juice idea years ago. Good luck. Hope you don't have locust type of infestation.
@@BrendaRockwell-u9w I just put the neem leaf powder on. It seems to be working today. I dont have any of the other problems you mentioned. I have those problems solved with very old school methods handed down in the family for generations. But, thanks for the info. 😁👍
Biological controls: Neem/Garlic/Soap spray & diatomaceous earth.
Create microclimates for increased biodiversity. Birds, beetles and certain flies are all predators of grasshoppers.
Feed your soil biology. Healthy plants are less likely to be attacked and will withstand pest pressures.
Good luck, I had every pest you can think of in my tiny garden. Best solution by far is trust in God. :)
Yay! Riley showed up!
Riley does not like the bugs or the heat...We will have more of him as it cools off.
A ther'apeutic episode :)
Jeremiah 29:5 - Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;
my carrot patch is weedy but I have a question can I plant some more potatoes now ?
