@@CinnamonTroll246 it is mainly the pronunciation of ö in König for example and the pronunciation of r. What tells me he is swedish or some Thing in the direction.

I really had problems to understand this as a native german speakter. They pronouned a lot of the syllables way to much. Of course this had to do with the military origin of this song but the first thought that went through my mid was that these singers were brits or americans that were hired to sing this.

Actually based on the words and its alternate name its has no military background its about pirates, you can tell by the second and third verse which mentions merchants and later "Long live the piracy" and about boarding

The funny thing is, I think they record all their soundtrack in Germany. I think they wrote that in a diary. However, I also think they didnt tell the orchestra what their music would be used for so the problem might be there.

There is at least one post-WWII recording of this by a German singer, and he certainly wasn't imprisoned for it. /watch?v=817AhpJjfLc

Yes he sung many songs which ar considered "nazi songs" this days, but aren't.
Like "Schwarzbraun is die Haselnuss", "Wir sind des Geyers schwarzer Haufen" or "Oh du schöner Westerwald"

Great song. It is a folk song documented since 1915 and the inofficial anthem of German Uboat Crews in both Wars. Sadly, in the 30ties it got perverted by the Nazi's. Nowadays it is a matter of controversy whether german soldiers are allowed to sing it at all.
