One of the greatest theme tunes ever. Just so wonderfully upbeat and optimistic! It's telling the audience that half an hour of harmless comedy fun lies ahead.
I am old enough to remember that era - nine when the programme started and seventeen at its end. I grew up before social media, the Internet and all these gadgets people can't do without nowadays! And about to turn 53 next week!
Ha, some things never change - because of office moves, I'm temporarily having to commute out to Croydon work in the funny shaped building at 0:14! It actually looks OK when the sun comes out. Of course, it's Croydon, so that doesn't happen very often...
What a suprise to see Terry and June back on our screens tonight! Good to see the BBC digging out the Terry and June Christmas specials. 1982 xmas special was on tonight and is on iplayer at the moment. 1985 xmas special is on 29th Dec 2009 on BBC2 at 8.30pm.
I've never read this anywhere but I'm pretty certain that when Terry Scott died June Whitfield received a lot of messages of condolence from people who thought that she was married to Terry Scott in real life.
i grew up in croydon and about 10 years ago i used to meet drug dealers by the phone boxes were terry meets june i wonder if he was really trying to score some speed ?
I can kinda see where you're coming from in the seventies - I don't remember as far back as 1979, but I remember this show blighting my weekday evenings as a child in the early eighties. All due respect to the professionals involved in its production but it wa a kind of televisual lignocaine.
I certainly do remember 1979 as I am older than you - nine years old and halfway through junior school. By the very end I was a seventeen year old YTS trainee (Youth Training Scheme). A memory of childhood and adolescence! By the way, what the dickens is lignocaine?
@Glenn1967ful Of course..! Wouldn't have seen Terry down on the picket-lines with Scargill in 74', waving the socialist-worker at June as she brings him his roast-beef sandwiches and hot-flask of Bovril.

Never seen the show but they kind of look like a couple who would be intensely uncomfortable to be around. Like for an hour they'd just bicker and then one of them would say something incredibly racist and everyone would try not to make eye contact for awhile and later they'd wonder why people always seem to leave so early. No, wait, I'm thinking of my relatives.
They'd probably be members of the local Conservative Club, play golf and buy the Daily Mail. Also they'd probably mention that there was a black family moving into their nice suburban street and really they should stay in Brixton where they belong.

Haha, the days before cell phones, we all used to get lost waiting for each other :)

Terry died young, and was plagued with ill health. Such a shame.

It wasn't funny but it had charm.
I don't believe in golden ages but I think Britain was a more civilised place back then.
@earlysunsets3
It actually overtook Coronation St in the ratings in 1987.

I have it - its easy to find.
@marts500
it appealed to the safe middle class market in the same way The Good Life did. Even the house they lived in was similar.
The nearly travellers m8, enjoy!
RIP
The Whitgift Center escalator
He even stood for parliament in a 1983 episode as the Blue candidate- which was a thin disguise for him being a Tory
what party was Jim Hacker?

I suppose it was a bit safe and conservative, but at its height Terry and June was as big as Coronation St.

@Marmiteums His hair wasn't dyed.
Sky channel Comedy Central Extra shows eight T&J episodes every weekend.
The ultimate middle class sitcom: I wonder if they voted Tory and bought the Daily Mail.
I always took that to be part of the joke
justice owns
You wouldn't recognise Croydon from this...hell hole then, hell hole now.

@withnail555 ..and being able to walk the streets after dusk if you were Terry or June without fear of murder or robbery..
When croydon was half decent
Terry Scott's looking for June acting is a lot better than hers. She looks like she's simply regarding Croydon.
isnt the whole story in 1 june's wandering around, terry trying to find her
east croydon..lol...makes peckham look like knightsbridge :)
