    As an American the pronunciation of these names is gonna kill me faster then my opponents sword. Especially since I am actually learning. Thanks again!

    So, it isn’t all about looking for an opening (waiting) but setting up an ambush. Then there must be skills in spotting ambush and escaping or avoiding. Eye opening. Thank you.

    I thought sword fighting was just swinging your sword around and hope you get a hit in. I've been bingeing your videos and really enjoy them! But I also have some questions, like if your opponent jabs at you do you avoid or block somehow? And also how do you parry? (I'm probably using the word wrong) it would be helpful (because I like playing it on the defense because I don't wanna die)

    • @gregorsuchentrunk388
      @gregorsuchentrunk388 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The defens only works with an offens. You have to thtreaten your oponent the whole fight.

    • @commander-recon6624
      @commander-recon6624 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe the term parry refers to a simple block. That's the way it is in epee, so you just place your own blade in front of the attack. Hopefully from that, you can create an opening and press your advantage. But I'm still learning myself, and this is what I know from epee.

      Yeah , I was about to say the same thing. The other guy has the head piece so the guy on the left is the one supposed to demonstrate. Wouldn't make sense if he was the one getting hit when he doesn't have armour in these videos.

    Is the main difference between this technique and Zucken is that here the displacement is way more forceful and downward whereas with zucken it’s displace more to the side rather than down?

    where can I get a sword

    • @GuySwords
      @GuySwords 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on how you want to use it.
      For sparring or training uses i can recommend Tinker Peace-swords. They have the neat feature of being able to switch the balde within a few steps. If you want a "Fechtfeder" i can´t recommend Kvetun or Regenyei enough. Both smiths have a really great qualitystandard and the swords are sturdy and absolute beautiful.
      Kvetun may be a bit difficult these days to get to you...
      I hope i could help you

  • @yuridanylko

    Do we have to change to thumb grip when we want to go for the thrust

    • @Dreynschlag
      @Dreynschlag  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, you don't necessarily need to. But I would definitely advise to do so when thrusting from above. We often switch to thumb grip instinctively because it supports the blade.

      I am making a game about those techniques and your videos helped me the most along with another channel. By the way, how you counter absetzen?

    • @fizzaclesbglaflaoulesslisi1963
      @fizzaclesbglaflaoulesslisi1963 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bert you are great too, to be honest. You explained about important moves good as well. It's probably just the sound in the places you went to.

    • @Dreynschlag
      @Dreynschlag  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice to hear and good luck for your game! Sounds interesting.
      What to do against absetzen? The Absetzen works against a Hau and a thrust btw and because it's an indes technique you have to react really fast on it. Your first goal is to bring your body out of the line of attack while pushing your opponents blade in a position in which you are no longer threatened (but not further). From there on it depends on distance/situation: You might try to thrust from the bind (winden) or to close the distance and go for a throw (einlaufen) or for an attack on the other side (umschlagen) or ...

  • @celinreyes1983

    I understand that this is basic level, but is hard for a practicioner to get rid of bad habits previously acquired at the begining of training. I mean applying downward pressure while just standing like that makes no sense. And later on anyone who learns this drill will have to correct it with a "new" technique? The right thing should be taught and learned from the very begining.

    • @Dreynschlag
      @Dreynschlag  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I know where you are coming from, and it is true, that you shouldnt get used to a wrong movement. However, it is important to train for various options. Especially how to exploit common mistakes like an opponent who uses too much pressure in the wrong direction AND of course how to avoid these mistakes in your own style.

    • @celinreyes1983
      @celinreyes1983 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DreynschlagHonestly, I didn't think before of what you just told me in your answer, and I see you have a good point. By the way I wonder what do you mean by saying " I know where you are coming from"
      I would like to clarify that my sword knowledge does not come from formal classes but from training on my own and from analizing videos in TH-cam. And at least with weapons I'm more oriented towards western way of fighting.
      I have practiced eastern martial arts but I'm also a follower of western martial sports and martial arts. I'm more oriented towards Bruce Lee's philosophy and training methods. It doesn't really matter where I'm coming from, I'm working on finding the common ground of all fighting styles and methods from all over the world. Thanks for answering my previous comment, I don't intend to disrespect or discredit, it's just that I have seen so much dishonesty and fakery that I remain skeptical until I get a credible explanation. God bless you, peace be upon you, I look forward to your next answer, I'm pretty sure is gonna be interesting.

    It is possible that due to some communication error you had not recieved my comment in regards to lack of inclusion of vegetables. I understand that the filming and coordinating of such cast can often be overwhelming, however I am starting to suspect that no subsequent vegetable or even fruit involvement in the recent episodes may be purposeful. Our vegetable union has fought for vegetables to require a casting within 1 of every 5 episodes, so i hope during episode 15 to have once again seen comprehensive includison. If you have any questions on how to become a fully accredited equal opportunity employer of vegetables, please contact the Vegetables of the World NGO, we are eargerly awaiting your response.
