First heard this song while slammin around Oswego State circa1985, cruisin, boozin and lalapaloozin at Silver Lake, and suckin down wings and things at Cabaret(Sal's Birdland) after hours.Great times! Might just be the best song ever! Don't know of any song in which the vocals and instrumentation so powerfully and perfectly blend to convey the painful story behind the lyrics...truly a timeless masterpiece if ever there was one!!!
I went to Syracuse University in the 80's and they used to play Benny on the radio a lot, that's where I first heard of him. Great song! RIP Benny, a sad loss..
Reminds me of the back seat of my car back in highschool...🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🥰🥰🥰👍 I'm from central n.y. so Benny was part of my teenage years saw him at Coleman's Roadhouse in Rome N.Y. 😁👍
I grew up west of Syracuse on Seneca lake. We were lucky to be between Rochester and Syracuse. 95X, WOUR, 96CMF and WMJQ in Rochrester. Rock 107 out of Utica, we got that on a wind and a prayer, lol. Good song Benny. That and into the night. Everybody played that. Even the AM boomer stations out of Chicago WCFL, WLS and New York 77 WABC were plugging this hard. No doubt. Benney could belt out a hit.
i listened to this on 94 Rock when I lived in Preble, NY. Bought the LP and wore the grooves out of it playing this song. so glad i grew up during the late 70's and 80's!
I and my niece ran into Benny at an old store in Fulton NY when I was in my early twenties, I asked him about his Song "Sheila C", I asked if this was a True Story, He said yes, Wish I knew more, So sweet of Benny. I will never forget how he let me and my Very Pregnant best friend sit up on stage with his then wife and young son, instead of us standing in the large crowd in the hot summer sun at I think Regan's Silver Lake in Oswego (I think it went by another name also), the year was 1988 but not sure. CNY Loves You Benny, You are the Best !!!
I saw him play in a bar in Canandaigua (NY) about 20 years ago. As he led into this song he reiterated a short version of the story behind it but I can't remember. Try and find anything about it online is a lesson futility! What a show though, guy is phenomenal!
So sad i missed concert in '88 at silver lake-left oswego for the big city in '87-can't believe i never saw benny -everyone else seem to run into him around syracuse/oswego/hannibal as he was living there to sober up for a few years-Another MASTERPIECE song born of tragedy!!!
Syracuse.com just did a story on Benny. He is in very poor health and his wife is looking for people to send him cards in California. Maybe you can send him a card and ask about Sheila C. before it is too late.
I missed out, that's for sure. Heard of Into The Night vaguely back in the 80's, or on adult contemporary stations, and the more I hear his stuff, the more I enjoy it. Again, I sure missed out, but I'm playing catch-up, story of my life. You New Yorkers are so damn lucky!
LONG LIVE 95X & Benny Mardones!!! I hope to see him someday in concert, and all of you are right, a nicer guy you will never find! This is one of my favorite songs!!
Been looking for this one for over 25 years!!!! Heard it played on the radio only 1 time but never forgot it !Thank god you can't wear out "YOU TUBE" like you can a LP!Thanks so much for posting!!!
Saw him once live at Slammers in Rome, NY damn close to 20 years ago. He was so on and so much into that song you would have sworn that Sheila had died that night. They could have replaced the studio version with how he friggin shredded all hearts by giviin his best on that song and the whole damn night. Shovel more snow Benny, still love ya old man.
Well hello there, benny at this day and age you still have what it takes. I used to listen to you a lot in the 80tys .then I heard your song into the night on the radio last month and that song brought me right. back into the 80 tys. all over again. I just wanted to say your voice is so powerful that even today. it's just as strong. I just want to say thank you. for all that you've done through the years. And to keep up all the wounderfull song's that you sing.. your a very wounderfull person. Benny and I thank you. Linda Hanley....
Glad to say I had this album when it was first released (seems like 1981 or so). It was great for the times and it has a signature sound about it. Fun to listen to it now!
Our little album-rock radio station in Lafayette LA got great response to Benny, as did album-rocker KSHE/St. Louis. He was so popular in LafLA that, after we'd switched to top 40, his "Heart in My Hands" made our top 10 even without the usual national acceptance that was necessary for songs to even get airplay.
I was there. It was my first time seeing Benny. I have photos of that concert. Seen him probably 10 more times. Seen him perform at Sylvan Beach quite a few times. Him and his music were, are and always will be awesome. Rest in peace Benny.
I think I read somewhere years ago that Benny was from California. He was so enomoured with the response from fans in Syracuse, that it became his adopted second home. We always showed him the love when he came to town. It's become a two or three time a year thing now in Syracuse. He's still a major draw. I'm living in Tampa now but I hope to catch Benny again during one of my visits back home. Benny Rocks!
He's in a assisted living center in California. Syracuse.com did a story about him and Covid19. Wife is asking for letters to be sent to him. Address is on the Syracuse story. He is not well.
The best part of this song is from 3:20 to 3:40. At 3:20 Benny feels like a guy curling up his fist 👊 getting ready to punch 👊 who took Sheela C away from him. The background scream of his saying "OH SHEELA " is like uncocking that punch 👊 👊 and getting ready like a mythical Hydra to go out and avenge the wrong of why Sheela was taken from him that night.
EXCELENTE CANCION¿,es verdad que Benny es de origen Chileno?,al que lo conoce y tiene conocimiento desmentir o asegurar aquello. saludos desde Talachuano CHILE.
I second that emotion. So I could have been acquainted with all it! Would have loved to see Benny close up and live-in-the-flesh. Too young at the time. :(
Please in the name of Jesus Christ Ted he'll from the blood of Christ back riding our bikes and going to get ice cream at Byrne Dairy and shopping at Aldi's

Haunting lyrics, beautiful song, a true hometown classic. We have a true central New York connection. Rest in peace, friend!

The essence of Syracuse 80s rock.
You will certainly be missed. RIP, Benny, we love you ❤️
This is the song that caught my attention back when it came out, I'd never heard of him. RIP Benny, you had a legendary voice for sure.
Dude could sing with a passion that rivals any singer on any level....RIP

My brother and i saw him at club 37 in syracuse presented by 94 rock back in about 1980. one of the best shows i ever saw. RIP Benny.
Killer tune !!! I remember this great tune from when I was living in Utica, N.Y...Heard it on WOUR FM and 95X out of Syracuse....Great times....
I'm still here in the area saw Benny at Coleman's in Rome😁👍
I am very sorry Benny , you will be missed so so much !💔
Saw him at Signorellies in St. Martinsville Louisiana in the eighties. One of the best performers I've ever seen.

In one of his live versions of the song on here, he mentions her full name during the lead-up. It sounded something like Sheila Calvanieri.
So sad i missed concert in '88 at silver lake-left oswego for the big city in '87-can't believe i never saw benny -everyone else seem to run into him around syracuse/oswego/hannibal as he was living there to sober up for a few years-Another MASTERPIECE song born of tragedy!!!
@@blown22 Would it have been Calaveri? That's how I remember it though I'm sure I'm off.
Syracuse.com just did a story on Benny. He is in very poor health and his wife is looking for people to send him cards in California. Maybe you can send him a card and ask about Sheila C. before it is too late.
It always amazed me that Benny Mardones remained a virtual unknown outside of Central NY. He is a great artist, and still kicks it live.
Grew up in Illinois. Loved this song!
This was my girlfriend's favorite song in 1982. LOL great song, great hot memories. Thanks Benny ! You got me laid many times.
