Aoxomoxo As a matter of fact, anyone GIVING those one-day static line first jump courses back in the day before tandems also loves this, usually... ;-)
Two of my friends and I did this in the mid 70's down in Central Florida. Three hours of ground class jumping off a high ladder and that afternoon we all jumped out at 4500 feet with a cloud base below us. Two of pulled our ripcords @ 1800' and our other guy fell to 1000' when his reserve self-deployed. We all landed on our feet and celebrated like hell that night in Palm Beach.
Did my first jump in 1980, Para command chutes were the big thing then but I used the old round ww2 style chute. Did a 2 hour class and then my 2500Ft. Static Line jump by myself. Cost was $75.00 then.
In '98, I took the AFF course in Z-Hills. At the bar after I graduated, the instructors put this scene on the tv and said that's how they wish they could teach it. Brings back memories!
The funny thing is, if you did this in slow motion with demonstrations instead of the chalkboard, most of the essential points are there - if you have been there and done that, you understand exactly what he means. In the real world however, whuffos don't understand enough of what he said to begin to laugh - the look on their faces is the best punchline ever ;o)
Great movie....this scene is simply brilliant....way to go Truman!!!
Anyone that did a one-day static line first jump course back in the day before tandems has got to love this...
