The problem is. The mainstream and the algorithms didn’t want to let Louisiana bust through the door and COOK when we had the real chance before the drill wave completely took over. We literally provide flavor and culture that continually gets stolen ESPECIALLY in my old stomping grounds of Baton Rouge. That “nostalgic” sound never left the Boot but folks kept biting our style (steppin, it’s up, jiggas, etc.) and gentrified it for a mainstream audience. I love what Liangelo did and I hope Louisiana and the South in general takes our REGIONAL sound BACK.
People are trying so hard to make this song a thing. This song is going to be on one of those Watch Mojo terrible/guilty pleasure countdown lists along with 'Safety Dance' and Eddie Murphy's 'Party All the Time' 😅😂.
I think the genre you're referring to is the same thing that Lil Troy was doing with "Wanna Be a Baller", as well as what Devin the Dude did with "Doobie Ashtray" (produced by DJ Premier btw). Party Rap is what you could call it. I've heard it all my life, as I'm from North Carolina (still a teen). Great video, also this song is infectious!
i think the reason that whole sound you named is always searching for that new “fix” as u called it in the Joey video is that it gets gimmicky fast. u can see that with lil baby’s new album. he’s been tryna create catchy trends off his music and it isnt hitting. glorilla’s dope tho shes been holding it down all last year with that memphis sound.
It taps into that 99 to the 2000 sound that carried Cash Money to popularity. Its sounds like its produced by Manny Fresh. I could almost hear young lil Wayne saying "da block is hot🔥" in the background.
@@Alx1116 trust me I had a clip ready lmfao but I don’t want to be a hater channel. And it got stuck in my head. Let them folks listen. I’m off it tonight haha.
🌶️🐰: I believe the category you are looking for is Crunk Music… Shout out Lil Jon!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 But in all seriousness I think those are artists are under a larger umbrella of Nostalgic Southern Rap… or a Southern Renaissance Rap category… combining their regional influences with other southern sub genres!! The artists that win in 2025 are those that create Hip Hop Mosaics with the right balance of talent, nostalgia and unique mixtures of regional influences. Doechii, Kendrick, & Tyler already proved that the nostalgia effect is real!! Even the responses from Ray Vaughn and Daylyt to Joey have nostalgic roots!!
Gelo is very much NOLA Bounce with a TX/Midwest twang. Glo immediately makes you think of 3 6 Memphis rap but has the influence of crunk/trap. Bossman sounds like a Florida Classic Car Show… Trick Daddy gangsta rap influences but he’s a Future ATL trap baby for sure!! BigXthaPlug undeniably TX/chopped and screwed!! but seems to have a melting pot of influence… sonically and lyrically. This concludes my Ted Talk
Make it say ugh to na nah....it aint GloRilla or Unsexy Redd is not NOLA rap...it is more like Independent, Back da ass up, wipe me down...however nepo baby aint it 😢 but he can get better!! NOLA is known for Bounce so their Hiphop artist know how to seamlessly integrate that into their production
I think the sound is called “one hit wonder”
