It's clear that Post Malone was looking at hip-hop through the lens of rock music, as he judges "dance music" (in the broadest sense of the word) through the lens of 1970s album rock music. Even if it's false, let's grant him for the sake of the argument that all hip-hop was just about having a good time and partying in terms of lyrical subject matter, it's still a presummption that artistic depth can only come from lyrical depth. People aren't emotional when listening to J Dilla's 'Donuts' or DJ Shadow's 'Endtroducing...?' Hip-hop, just like other genres related to its history (techno, Jamaican soundsystem music, drum & bass) have depth by what the music reflects on the cultural changes that take place within the culture. And "dance music" (again, in the broadest sense of the word) connects us to a really fundamental part of our humanity. The ability and urge to move and dance to the music is in our DNA. We've been dancing to music since the dawn of time. The ability for a beat ro bring people together and to dance in unison to it has a certain depth that cannot be explained by looking at it with the expectation that all music derives depth from the same place that 1970s album rock does.

I say this as a guy who grew up on hip-hop in Greensboro NC. This is a video for people who dont get the hate, who dont understand that yeah, there are party songs, but that garbage is a part of every genre of music. If it isnt a diverse genre then why are Fack and MAAD city both hip-hop

Man hopefully I can break in the game like Mac. I think hip hop is an extremely expensive, it’s literally poetry with an instrument underneath. Hip hop has a culture that is so rich in history and it’s really beautiful when people can add something real to it.
