- Barn Find 1 owner Citroen 2CV survivor car discovered. There's always a lovely backstory when Jonny Smith discovers a car that has been in the family since new, and that's precisely what happened with this Norfolk-based 2CV6 Special. Bought new in 1985 it has served as work car, family car and teenage L-plate learner vehicle. Question is, will Jonny and Darren Arthur (from the2cvshop.co.uk/ ) manage to fire the 2-cylinder people's car into life?

Snowhite, she was my first car. 1985 2CV. So many good memories. Sold it in 91 (and regretted) with 120k plus. So satisfying it was to hear the sound of Bluebell engine breathing again. You'll never walk alone with a car like this.
Please start doing the follow-up episodes on the barn finds. It would be amazing to see all these vehicles restored and on the road.

That is a great idea. I haven't watched all of the barn find vids but i usually feel a little bit downcast at the end as we never know if the cars do live again or if they are just pushed back into the garage/barn, never to see daylight again.
It would be great, however restorations can take years, especially with rare cars with even rarer parts, some you cannot even get third party made parts and you hope to find a scrap car somewhere in the world to get it, thankfully there is some companies now that could make you a part with latest tech but you still need the exact dimensions, and if you don't have the part getting those could take some doing.

Love the little 2CV.
Johnny needs to find a mobile detailing friend to come on these. A proper clean could be all the inspiration needed to get the owners of some of these vehicles to move forward with keeping them on the road. Of course hearing them run again helps, but seeing the years peeled back with a proper detail would certainly inspire them to go further.

I was thinking the same when I watched the Rover SDI barn find recently. I’d love to see some sympathetic paint correction on these cars. Anyway, as ever, a great video.

Omg, I have one identical to this that I bought over 20 years ago and left it under a car cover on my dad's driveway. Same year, same colour, same interior. Put new tyres on it a couple of years ago to move it for restoration but it never happened. Seeing this has spured me on to make 2023 the year my 2cv hits the road again. Thanks for posting this video.

I worked on these for about 3 years before I went to college as a mature student. They are remarkable cars! After working for years on modern cars, then restoring vintage and classics, I loved their simplicity. I did quite a few chassis replacements under warranty, and I would start those at 9am Monday morning and finish at 1pm Wednesday, single handed, while the other mechanic did all my MOTs and Citroen BX and AX work for those 3 days. I loved it!

My parents had three of these while I was growing up at school in the 80's. I did try to learn to drive in one, but me and my dad got the hump with each other.
But to my reflective shame, I did crash my mum's Charleston into a tree, rip the roof off my dads Special ( because of unclipped roof ) down a dual carriageway, and my Dad's Special caught fire on the M1 at Hendon ( where while listening to the eye in the sky radio report, my Mum said " That is your Dad" ) and she was right...
Amazing cars, amazing memories, amazing fun....and me and the Mrs want a 2cv van to tinker round Cornwall.
I must admit I did cry just a bit, because my Mum has passed away, and I know she would of cheered when this Bluebell started again. She did love the 2cv.
Every time you get one going, it doesn't matter what it is, but I have a huge smile on my face! Well done Jonny and team, cracking content!

Ahh Howard, thank you. Well sometimes the car isn't the main point of these stories. It is the human backstory and our silly attachment to these machines.
There are loads of them in sheds in France and of course, they are often ULEZ compliant. 1200 BMW engine 😁

Hated 2CV when a was a kid. Now I think it is beautiful.
I've never been able to get excited by a 2CV but I got goosebumps when the engine came to life. I'm so happy for the family to see it run again, just proves what happens if you look after something properly.

You’ve never driven one then.
How many cars are there where you can use at 90-100% on its ability most of the time.
That said, it can get too exiting at times - especially it the cardboard ducting gets loose and rests on the exhaust.
First you smell the smoke but pretty soon you can have a burnt out 2CV like I did.
My thoughts entirely, never expected to become so invested in something I care so little about! It looks in reasonable order considering

My first car was a 2cv, which I inherited from my Mum. This was such a fabulous episode and brought back so many memories (like changing the steering rack on the drive) and when it started I must admit my eyes were damp.

I bought in 1986 an identical 2CV to this from a garage in Peterborough. I travelled all over in it, including to Scotland one year and to Holland another. I found it a better motorway cruiser than my friend's Mini as the engine was so much further away and therefore less intrusive into the Cabin. As I was in Cambridgeshire and this car was in Norfolk our paths must have crossed at some point. I remember once when I was visiting my parents, my mother tried to shut the boot with the stay up, bending it in half...
Wonderful to see Bluebell come to life again. My wife bought a similar condition white special 2 years ago and she is now a Beachcomber with the help of parts from Darren.. I would strip back your seats and reupholster them from the frame up. It only took my wife a long weekend and the seats are so comfy now. Happy motoring, Bluebell.
My mum had a C reg one in that colour. I rember the roof rolled back, standing on the seat holding the cross bar while my mum drove along :D
I absolutely loved watching this. A car that has been part of a family since new and will stay part of the family for good. This is pure car love.

In the mid 80s I was running a horrible mint green Mk 3 Capri 2.0 auto. Most days on the way home from work I would come up behind a 2cv lumbering up a fairly steep uphill single carriageway rural road, I would usually slip past with a cheeky overtake just before the crest of the hill and leave the poor struggling 2CV in a trail of dust. One winter day snow had come down heavily over night. Having had a sketchy drive into work the firm shut up early so we could get home in day light. I approached the hill with much trepidation in the tail happy auto Capri !! Just near the top and im struggling for grip I hear the roar of the 2Cvs twin cylinders the skinny tyres cutting through the snow and the madly grinning arm waving driver flies past me beeping his horn in triumph !! he left me for snow dust that day, he was one happy 2Cv owner that day.
Wow. What a find. I was a Citroen Parts Dealer in the 80's and I still remember practically every part on this car. Sold loads of accessories that people bought for this car. Lots of striped roof canvas.
You could tell a 2CV6 owner a mile off. Teacher, nurse, beard, small plats cheese cloth dresses wooly paterned. jumpers, woolly hat, they handled like a jelly on springs. The seats were like loungers, really soft and uncar like.

learnt to drive in an Ami 8 , moved onto Dyane and ultimately Charleston . That non starting turnover noise reminded me of its pre electronic ignition hatred of the damp but loved the fast change straight out 2nd to 3rd on the gear shift . Great to see Bluebell

Had many a 2cv worked at main dealer used to replace chassis’s in 8 hours book time was 17 hours. Still have all the special tools. Cars a work of art.
Finally got round to watching this - what a treat! As a 2CV fan since birth, spending endless time with my Grandad's 2CVs, this video represents why the 2CV is so special. Simple, honest design and an extremely characterful drivetrain. I will always be a 2CV fan. Cheers Jonny for the great video.
That was superb. I think my first toy car was a 2CV, that my parents got for me as a present on our first trip to France. Happy memories.
Johnny,a great episode. The 2CV is an outstanding piece of engineering. The men who designed these cars were artisans in their field. I had one in 1985 and loved it. Only way to drive them is foot to the floor everywhere. I'll buy another someday.
I had 2 of these around then and now, just made 77, am off to view a couple next week hoping to have the joy of ownership and tootling around in one whilst I am still able.

The dealership that sold this 2CV is still going albeit as a Suzuki dealership now and prior to it selling Citroen it was a Ford dealership, I remember my Grandfather buying a brand new MK3 Escort from them in early 1981
Flemings was started by 2 brothers Frank and John, its still run by Franks sons,

I am not a Citroen fan. Never have been. However, I could not help but be charmed by this episode. How could anyone with a soul not be? A wonderful story in today’s throw away culture, and really pleased to hear ‘Bluebell’ will stay in the family and the owner will hopefully achieve their dream of a French tour. Yes I smiled when it started up, as much as I would an old 6 series. A lovely episode ❤
I live in the states and my own barn find is a 1971 SS Chevelle. It has a 396ci big block bolted to a Muncie rock crusher transmission that came out of a 1969 SS Chevelle that was destroyed after being rear ended by a semi tractor trailer. I found it 23 years ago and I still have and drive it.
What a lovely example of the 2CV. Neatly preserved in a time capsule garage. Great vid Jonny.

Quite frankly this is some of the vest content on TH-cam. Forget super cars, even classic ones. There is more joy in a car like this than any collectors car.
One of my favourite barn find videos so far! Amazingly functional and impactful machine the 2CV is, and apparently pretty easy to revive!
I love the way the car’s bonnet was bouncing around when you were rocking it back and forth in gear. It was so cute!
The bonnets are made of the lightest material known to mankind.

Noticed the Krooklok sticker on the back door I had one on my first car a 1983 Fiat Uno back in 1992 😂great barn find Jonny been well preserved this 2CV👍👍👍I do have that 1983 Citroen brochure somewhere in my 80's car brochure collection so pleased she runs
I've been in a 2CV and I was very impressed. Beautiful ride quality, very comfy seats and plenty of room. You can even remove the rear seats and turn it into a van quite easily. Just don't expect any performance,. Despite the exaggerated leaning on "fast" corners, the actual handling dynamics are very stable with good direct steering feel also.
So many memories for them with this 2CV that is DEFINITELY a part of the family! I'm sure the Dad had a tear in his eye seeing the old girl fire up again, SHE LIVES! Great work Jonny!

I really, sincerely hope that the owner finally gives it the little bit of love it needs and then takes it to tour France. I really do love 2CVs (and Dianes), they're great fun to drive and so engaging.
I had one when I was a student but the "cooler" Charleston in two grey tones... such a nice car it was...
The smile on the sons face whilst sitting in car for first time in yrs was brilliant to capture . Had me smiling all the way through this video , well done all on getting her started .

My daily transport is a 2CV-Van from 1974 which I completely restaurated, renovated and repainted. It's the most smooth car in my live ! I started driving a 2CV when I was 18, nowadays (at the age of 70) I still drive this 2CV-Van; also a 1977 2CV (without third window !) and a Citroën HY from 1981 as my holliday Camper. All cars renovated like new and been photographed over thousand times ... I'm a happy man ! Greetings from The Netherlands ! 😃

Truth to tell, Johnny. I have never been more keen to have a barn find car come to life as this one. I was about to sware off the whole premise after seeing so many cars having been turned to rust but this 2CV has so much character and having been shown so much love by its family that I genuinely cheered on start-up. Thank you for that.
I only wish that dad had appeared at some point. It's his story after all.

My folks bought a 1958 2cv (ripplebonnet) out of a French farmers barn in 2005, it was a state. It’s now 2023 and it’s almost rebuilt!

Always had a least one 2CV since I was 17.....now 57. Many other cars have come and gone, but the 2CV is the keeper!

This was - another! - great episode. What made it magical was the music. Just wonderful. My first car, 40 odd years ago, was a blue 1972 2CV4, which stayed with me for many, many years. I know I live in the past, but I do like simple things you can sit down with sense of humour and a bottle opener and repair the car now being serious. I think twin cylinder, motorcycle engines, car engines are just so beautiful. I rode A BMW air cool bike for many years some hundred and something thousand miles I put on there myself I have such a soft spot for flat twins. There is something about the 2CV. Yes they were this. Yes they were there. Yes they were quick. Yes they were simple to repair. Yes you could repair them yourself on a Sunday afternoon, as long as you could keep the munch beetle Out of the bodywork they would just keep going as I said before long live the socket set in the Simple car enjoy your program Michael
I was working in a warehouse when I bought my first 2cv - red/white Dolly. To say they took the piss was an understatement. Convinced it was one of the greatest cars I'd ever driven, I invited them each on a test drive. They absolutely bloody loved it! A very misunderstood car.
Always regret selling my 1984 2CV 😢. Had some brilliant times in it and I loved the fact that owners would wave to each other when you met them on the road. Had to replace the chassis soon after I bought it though, which cost around £1k. And sold it for £1500 😩.

Your Barn Find vids have a lot of emotional impact as the cars are linked to past lives which were part of family history. The car becomes more than just a vehicle, the unpacking of the old garages and looking through the bits and pieces for the first time in ages, is something special. Fantastic work as always J

2cv were built until 1990, from 1988 in Mangualde, Portugal. The last came off the production line um July 1990, a 2CV 6 Charleston.
I haven't seen many of these on the road since I left school in 1989. That familiar engine note brings the memories flooding back. Absolutely loving these barn finds 👍
This episode is the definition of the barn find series. All the memories the son had. Yes cars are technically inanimate objects, but with ones like this they almost take on a sort life as they were such an integral part of the owners life’s and experiences. Keep up the great work!
