    It’s fine that’s her sense of humor. That being said, she shouldn’t work in that field because of it. Patients come to doctors and nurses expecting kindness and empathy not a dark sense of humor at the suspense of their lives.

      @howard4558 3 ปีที่แล้ว +50

      I completely understand your point of view, but you saying she shouldn't work in that field because of her humour to me is dumb. If she just made dark jokes with her colleagues without patients hearing, then there's no problem. Heck, sometimes patients like to deal with shitty situations with dark humour (but you should definitely wait to see if a patient likes dark humour or not before you make any jokes about that sorta stuff) plus, in other cultures like where I come from, Scotland, making dark jokes as social workers, nurses, etc can be a part of the experience, not out of malice but to just make fun of how shitty the situation is, not the people. It can be very comforting actually, dark humour. It distracts you from what ever you are struggling with.
      Anyway, I still don't agree with that nurse regardless because she made her dark jokes very public on tik tok where people like that daughter could see it, and it just turns unprofessional and crass.
      Anyway, take my opinion with a grain of salt lmao

    As an EMT, in my experience, medical staff do make these sorts of jokes to one another. Dark humor is a part of medical culture, and is a way to cope with the awful shit those workers see and deal with every day. But we absolutely do not make them where patients can hear, and we _especially_ don't post them publicly online. It is completely inappropriate to share them with anyone you don't absolutely know will be okay with them. These patients and their families are already going through some of the most stressful events they will ever experience. It is _not_ okay to make that worse because you can't keep your mouth shut.

      Actually, many DO make these jokes around us. Not all of us are worthless. We understand what humor is. Not all of your patients do, and they're worthless people. It's one thing for them to be a little upset, but to ABUSE YOU for using humor to cope with the dark shit you see every day of your lives? They do not deserve the help you can offer if they'd abuse you for thinking of your own mental health. Their mental health is NOT more important than your own. But if they want a mentally unstable doctor or nurse to brutally slaughter them, then by all means they can go to the many who end up snapping because they refuse to take care of their mental health. A patient should be THANKFUL you make jokes, because it means you're capable of handling their health and stress.

      I said this on another comment and I'll say it again here...I am a nurse and what she is doing completely reflects nursing and healthcare negatively and puts us all in a bad light. It's totally distasteful and a disgrace to the nursing profession. I don't see her in a patient's room though, I don't know where people are getting that unless I missed something. It looks like the one video took place in the med room but I could be wrong. Many in healthcare see and deal with a lot of shit and so many in healthcare do have dark humor as a way to cope. She just goes above and beyond though and what she does is extremely distasteful. It's messed up because these types of nurses do exist, where they will use chemical restraints (like giving a patient a Benadryl so they sleep and not bother staff- which is considered a chemical restraint and needs a doctor's order because physical or chemical restraints open up legal stuff) and it's immoral and bad practice. Or the "I will unplug your life support to charge my phone". That is just extremely distasteful because it's not just the dark humor, it's airing it on social media, filming while in the hospital, and to me it just reflects someone who is selfish and narcissistic and it's evident to me that's what she is projecting outward through these videos and through her actions. She just goes above and beyond and what she's doing is just inappropriate. I doubt she's ever sat with a patient on their deathbed as they death rattle from all the fluid in their lungs. Shit like that hits me hard and for you to not have the heart to see how serious this job is, you don't need to be a nurse. This profession is about service to others with compassion, I get the dark humor but the way she goes about it just really rubs me the wrong way.

      @@nyxnightmare3542 that’s a very selfish way of thinking. As someone who’s in the healthcare field, you know what you sign up for. The jokes are called “dark humor” for a reason, as it’s usually socially unacceptable jokes. Therefore as a PROFFESSIONAL, you carry yourself accordingly especially around your patients/residents/clients and their family. If the only way you can “cope” with what you KNEW would take place in a career YOU chose to sign up for is by laughing at the suspense of your patients or w.e. and publicly disrespecting them then healthcare is NOT for you.

    I spent a lot of my life in hospitals and last year I spent 9 months in it waiting for a new heart. The nurses and doctors were absolutely amazing you could really feel the love they had for their jobs and how much effort they put into it. On the other end I worked in the healthcare field and the nursing home for the ones who have Alzheimer’s were awful I worked in them since I was 16 and It was hell the nurses didn’t care a patient fell down just leave them there for half of the day or a patient has a infection don’t report it until the high schooler notices it after a week of not working and calls the ambulance. I didn’t quit because I felt like I was the only one actually caring for the elderly who couldn’t speak up due to their illness so I stayed even when my own health got worse. In the end my dad forced me to quit and take care of myself I moved in with him and we reported the nursing home. I hope that everyone got fired and new caretaker’s that actually care took their place.

    They were absolutely justified in suspending her, and I do believe she should be fired (though that's subjective and up to the discretion of her employer depending on whether they find that any weren't just jokes). Part of your job as a nurse is to maintain an air of professionalism and keep a respectful and caring attitude and/or relationship with both the patients and their families. She did neither. Not to mention, she was filming TikToks instead of doing her job. Unless she was on break or something, that's definitely grounds to fire her. I don't usually have a problem with those kinds of jokes (I even find them funny at times), but coming from a nurse, especially with how many nurses abuse their power and torment patients, it was tasteless, tactless, disrespectful, and absolutely cause to investigate her actions and her work.
    I honestly have no idea why she is so shocked. This is a grown-ass woman, and it's in the job description.

      Now let’s say one of the nurses joking about your close one. “I’m going to make them actually dead Xd”
      “They hurt themselves so I’m gonna hurt them xdddddd”
      “Next time
      To say “sticks and stones may break my bones” at a death and then compare that to videogames is ridiculous. You don’t sound like you were “just joking”. You don’t sound like you cared at all, the phrase is used when you’re not being the jerk
