  • Want to add a little extra to your next sewing project? Ruffles are a decorative touch to any garment or fabric project you want to pursue. This video shows six simple ways on how to sew a ruffle. Ruffles look complicated, but they're simple with this tutorial! The basic technique is the same for each type of ruffle, in that you sew two straight seams, then pull the bobbin thread to gather up the fabric. In this video, you'll see how to make ruffles with contrasting colors, how to make ruffles out of knit fabric, how to make double ruffles, and more! Once you learn all the techniques, you can learn how to make a ruffle skirt, dress, and collar. Consider JOANN as your number one resource to learn and do all projects ruffled-related.

    I wish they showed a version for people who sew with a thread and needle instead of a sewing machine

      We are two. My machine is quite old (early 1980) and she ain’t able to do that!

    The second way, by hemming the material 1/4” twice then gathering, solves the rough edges when sewing the bodice of a jumper to the skirt! I either use bias tape or zigzag the edge but I really like finished edges! Thanks so much!!!

    Have a serger? Faster! Makes tons of perfect ruffles in SECONDS!!
    Settings:
    Left & Right needles: 7
    Upper & Lower loopers: 3
    Stitch length: 4
    Differential feed: 2.5
    Test on fabric scrap of similar fiber content prior to serging “good fabric”, making sure length of your fabric is 2”-3” longer than what the completed ruffle will be as gathering for ruffle will “shrink” your yardage!! Have fun!!😊😍💗🧵

    This is great but you may want explain what you're doing and the settings for your machine. I personally used a treadle machine so I would be like......whaaaat? Don't forget to explain what you're doing. Someone may not know how.

    I thought this video was going to show 6 DIFFERENT ways to sew a ruffle, not one way 6 different times. 🧐

      @@john-boyd all the techniques involved gathering basting stitches. There’s no difference.

      @@tntina420 all ruffles involve gathering, the differences shown here are which way you fold and how you hem etc... if you want a ruffle without gathering you need to do a flounce.

    • @tntina420
      @tntina420 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@john-boyd the video title should be called something different then since there are many ways to create gathers/ruffles without running basting stitches. I like using basting stitches for gathering since it’s easy but there are other methods that were not covered in this video, it only shows one method of gathering with multiple ways to hem or attach the ruffles. I found the video informative but I was expecting something different because of the title.

    Wait... what. These are all the same method. 'Pull on string to gather'. 'With and without hem, also with two fabrics instead of one! Also from the inside to the outside!'... shouldn't count as 5+ different methods.:/ BS
