Here in Sri Lanka , I got used to leeches just by hiking only. and now Simply I just pull them off with my bare hands. Simple as that. Ohhh and also you can use soap / salt to get rid if them easily
Socks and slider flip flops for wilderness jungle and rock trekking and river crossing. CRAZY ! That’s why on my travels I wear a good pair of proper trekking “waterproof” sandals with rugged sole, proper arch support and heel strap. My men’s Teva Holliway sandals. I wear one pair and carry a second back-up pair in my backpack. I only pack one pair of socks. To wear on the plane. Otherwise I’m barefoot in my trekking sandals. My Teva Holliway sandals are a bit pricy, but the safety of my feet and joints are worth the money. You’re asking for a bad accident wearing slider flip flops and socks in that kind of environment. In my home country of Canada we have leeches also, especially in small lakes in the country. I think leeches can be found almost everywhere in the world. Had a few on me during camping trips in northern Ontario, Canada. Bloody bloodsuckers.

If u are hiking on monsoon season to avoid leach u can rub plant called thitopaate on your shoes & leg.It's bitter in taste but eat it. To recognize that plant it is very similar to ganjha leaves but it is smaller in it's size
I congradulate you on your loving attitude toward Nepal and its people; however, that trek could have killed you all' I've never see more unprepared and unknowledgeable people, thinking that you were going to drink chang and trek out. Someone could have gotten killed or seriously injured.
