If stopper rod is not there, then spring will be compressed so much that after full opening valve may not be fully closed because spring may not be able to close the valve tightly.

Dear Sir. Since there is no holes im the flanged ends of the valve so I beleive before installation it has to be drilled as per the standard.
Sir you said stopper rod is provide to restrict complete opening/travel of the flaps. Why do we want to avoid complete opening?
